Man, you guys are killing it over there this year! I love the looks of those libs. To me, the quintessential psilocybin mushroom type with such a deep history. Keep the pics coming! :mushroom2:

Hi all, hope your'e well.

Just thought id post this link which i came across a few weeks back upon googling for any information regarding mushroom season 2019 here in the uk which, consequently, yielded up this great thread i have been stalking from the shadows.

I originally only created my account here to enquire as to whether other users were having difficulty finding anything.

The year before (2016), my very last pick was December 15 which, as a lot of you will know, is quite late but not out of the question.

It would seem that the last few years have been exhibiting a trend in terms of how late they might come and given last years ridiculously long and beautiful summer it makes sense now to me why they were so thin on the ground during the time we would traditionally expect them to be and as a result i simply gave up.

I wont give up so early this year but also, as one of the above posters has stated, apart from sporadic yields (depending where you are) it is still relatively very early and would advise against picking at this time as you may actually be taking the progenitors of any potential harvest you may have had, say, a month or so hence.

My two bobs worth. Anyway, great thread guys and wish you all the best for this year.
Alex

I know how liberty caps like to grow. They prefer the grassland. When I was looking at what mushrooms have psilocybin in the UK I came across quite a few. Apparently there's some species that like to grow on more  woodland type areas. I grew some outdoor weed plants on some wasteland and there was mushrooms everywhere last year, lots on the bark/wood/near tree roots etc. Lots looked exactly like the ones I seen on the internet.

Is it all about the libs or do the other ones do the trick as well? I will go to that place tomorrow and if there's out there I will take photos. There should be some due to the mornings being a tad frosty recently and people are finding them nearby to where I am.

The 'Psilocybe cyanescens' is the species they looked just like.

Cyanescens are the wood lovers that grow in the UK, they do also do the job but you should definitely make sure you get a proper identification on them as there are dangerous lookalikes.

By contrast, you're unlikely to find anything that looks like a lib and would kill you.  If you find cyans you're very lucky imo as they seem to be far more uncommon.

Thanks for the reply man.

I will go tomorrow and get some pictures of what's there. I love that bit of overgrown wasteland/woodland. I say woodland because it has bits of woodland that's very shaded and has lots of decaying wood, tree roots that grow above the surface due to the shade, where them cyan mushrooms will like to grow to my understanding.

I would have done another weed grow on there but it got occupied nearby with a heroin user living on there. There's got to be lots of fungi on there now. I just read up a bit on the cyans and read up a bit about the lookalikes you need to avoid. I won't put anything in my body unless I have confirmation. I'll put pics on here.

I'm still going to look for lib caps in the appropriate places, I already know where to go for lib caps, my uncle even knows where loads of those grow each season where it's just perfect conditions as long as the weather's right. I will look in the same bit but highly unlikely to find any in that kind of environment that I think the cyans could be growing at. There is patches of nice grass next to ditches full of water though.

To my understanding we are now at about the time to go out picking aren't we?

E2a: Somebody earlier in the thread said give it some time before picking. Makes sense to me. Temps can easily go up 10c within in a week. I dunno though, I'm a complete newbie to shrooms. I will just go looking for now, not picking. If they're there, I'll just take photos and have some of you experienced guys tell me if they're safe or not.

Definitely the season is underway so you might as well get out and start looking/hunting.  Will probably be easier to get good pics of picked shrooms, but as long as you get close, an ID can easily be done on most in-situ shrooms.

As you say, think we are due a hotter week which might shrivel a load of em, but afaik that's the last hot week of the year so should hopefully be an incredible season if we get a few days of good rain to get the ground damp and then some nice cool mornings with dew on the grass :mushroom::mushroom::mushroom:

Afternoon Gents!

Hope we're all well. First hunting season for me, had liberty's in the past and would like to try some again!

Travel the UK for work so will hopefully be able to nab a few =D.

Currently near Castleton, Peak District. Does anyone know if they've started around here yet?

Any help is much appreciated, happy hunting!!

Pretty sure peak district should be under way.  Can't remember if I spotted anyone mention their hunts there in this thread but they seem to be popping up all over so should be good to go!

In terms of hints, I'd say just start by covering ground, don't scrutinise one spot too heavily. If you've got access to a car, drive to a potential area, have a 10-15 minute look and if nothing, move on. Once you start finding other LBMs, then start looking properly.  If you find a lib, get to work on that area hard - tends to be that where there's one there's many.

Most of all, good luck at that's probably the biggest factor when starting out!!

Cracking day for it chaps & chapettes. Nice sunny weather making it miles easier to spot the Libs but also meant a lot more walkers and so didn't get to stick around for as long as I'd wanted to.

Brilliant thanks for the tips, I'll keep my eyes peeled, and let you guys know if/what I find!!

I've heard that if you take some whilst searching it can help to find more as they become more pronounced and you spot them easier, is there any truth to that?

There definitely are rumours that low doses help with edge detection, but mainly, if you take a few, you'll just get the mildly stimulating effects which might keep you more alert and paying attention to what you're looking for.

I'm hoping to get out on a hunt tomorrow myself, hopefully the weather stays this nice, should be an absolute beauty of a day for it

So I don't know if anyone here believes in synchronicity / meme magic, and (as a generally quite rational person) I'm still not sure I do, but get this.

So I've been out today in the south west, half looking, but mainly just learning a new area, taking in the sights, getting some fresh air etc.  And I'm aware of a few mushrooms as I'm walking through various fields and on footpaths.  Find a really nice looking spot, pretty wild untended grass and decide to stop for lunch.  Whack my T-shirt on the ground to dry a bit in the sun coz its sweaty as fuck and decide to scout around the field a bit while having a drink .

Plenty of LBMs but no libs, easy to spot too, even wandering around aimlessly not really getting down close to the ground.  Anyway, no luck so I head back to my T-shirt and rucksack to get some food.  Sit down and as I do, I think something along the lines of "meme magic I'll probably spot one while I'm sat here" and no word of a lie, hand to heart, swear to god, I look BETWEEN MY LEGS and there are two.

Pretty shrivelled but definite winners.  I'm not even gonna lie, I'm a bit spooked. I can rationalise it away like, I'm closer to the ground, I'm not moving, I've got nothing else to do but look, but still.  The one and only spot (and I've done more looking around since then because y'know where there's one...)

I dunno guys, what do you reckon? Mother Nature throwing me a bone?  Did I just literally manifest reality?

Edit: here's the one I spotted, the other was just out of the shot

And for anyone interested, this was fairly near Wells (a bit north of Glastonbury) at about 100m above sea level.
