Well I must be looking in the wrong places just been out for a couple of hours where i have seen loads of shrooms and a small number of libs last season and have seen nothing. Still it was a nice walk but very warm I thought. Maybe I need to go higher (no pun intended.) Winter hill etc.I am at a bit of a disadvantage as I am in my late 50s and not very fit.

found most of mine at c.250m (800-900ft) elevation up in Peaks

I don't think you'd actually need to summit hill - the pastures and fields surrounding it seem like likely ground

If u wanna play in the guessing game please note:
- the photos are separate but one photo is missing from the top row as it was too badly focused to bother uploading (sorry my camera is crap)
- i only air dry them for day or 2 with a little assistance from radiator to finish them off but it doesn't dry them as thoroughly as other techniques (e.g. dehydrator) might


If that's the case, then I change my guess to 66g :wink:

My first find!! In the Peak District, there is a lot but I found these whilst working.

Can anyone confirm please? I'm guessing they are 100% but I'd like to be sure!

Also I'd like to dry them to store them, what's the best method for this? Any do's/don'ts?

Just my opinion but libs don't necessarily grow more at elevation - they grow best where the conditions are the most favourable - but I think there are reasons you might have more luck higher up, especially earlier in season, including:

- colder overnight temps (so fruiting may start earlier)
- potential for more rain up in t'hills
- higher probability of pastures that have been untouched for longer as only good for grazing
- potential for less competition from other pickers in more remote spots

In any case, you cannot have too many spots at any elevation.

Had the first successful hunt on Dartmoor, still early but found a good few! (ignore the orange one)


Has anyone seen an albino before? Found one with some other libs which bruised blue and looked identical?

You've all got me far too excited. The only day I can fully commit to is Sunday. The weather is looking grim but I'm sure I'll survive. Didn't realise how much people are capable on picking in a day until joining here! I can only dream..

Our first find was when the heavens opened, they pop out in the cold and rain. We were soaked to the none but what a great day :smile:

Got some suspiciously large ones which I'm not too sure about but good haul around Horwich today.

The variants of ground type that they grow in is such a nice surprise. I forgot to take my camera yesterday (whoops) but we found the larger ones in longer grass where there are plenty of sheep, and more big ones in grass where there was not a turd in sight!

I hope that everyone has as lovely a time as we are having. We manifested a LOT of things we desired on the long walks.

Embrace the cold and rain as your skin is a fine waterproof material :smile:

Mushy & Lemon tea is super duper tasty, what a fine reward!

I've been wondering why Dartmoor/Devon has been such a success so far given that the SE hasn't kicked off yet but I see the temps are in that goldilocks zone of 15 degrees daytime/10 degrees overnight.

Although I see 3 degrees is forecast here next week! Jaysus!

Found around 80 over 3 visits consecutive days around an hour and a half each time. Already found more than I did over weeks of hunting and miles of driving last year! (Was near the end of the season though)
Absolutely loving it at the moment especially as this is obviously a sign of even better things to come!
Quick question, is anyone else finding shrooms with the same colours, lines etc as libs but are quite flat and wide? This particular shroom also has a pellicle and the stem is bendy like a lib but also cracks alot easier....

Found a handful out in Somerset today. Only in narrow, north facing fields close to tree/hedge cover. Another week of cool temps and more rain and they'll be everywhere I reckon :mushroom2::thumbup:

Also think I found a sterile one growing on his own, can anyone confirm? Weird since they were just being discussed in this thread
