Naa. Tony Blair has been planning that for a while anyway

I have only found minimal caps round yorkshiredales area...getting off your arse to go shroom hunting, only to be going home with a few measly shrooms after hours of trekking is a real ball ache!.
I have a friend up in Edinburgh area and he has been picking shrooms for the past few weeks.....one day I think he told me he had found 200 in 2 hours or so. I think all us English should plan a short stay up in scotland one weekend .

Michael Fish just said the further east you are, the more wet and miserable it's likely to be this week

I live in Yorkshire and picked about 300 P. semilanceata in a couple of hours last thursday at one of my secret locations in the Peak District.
(*Hint* It's somewhere in between surprise view and Grindleford )

Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I have spent hours searching fields and parks around my area without finding a single shroom, I am new to mushroom picking and have only vague ideas of where to look, I have read several FAQ's but none have been any help. I am in London, Barnet and there aren't many places that I know of to look in, the places that I have looked in didn't give any shrooms. I searched in fields with horse manure, river banks, bases of trees, long lush green grass and have still found nothing. I know that we have had a hot summer so I don't expect great results, just a couple of caps to let me know that there is still hope. Can anyone give me any tips or nearby places to look, or at least what I am doing wrong. Thanks alot. Charlie.

You're not doing anything wrong, the season has just got off to a poor start. Libs grow in a wide variety of places, you are just as likely to find them on long-grassed sheep infested welsh mountains as in regularly mown shit-free parks and gardens.
Having said that they don't grow everywhere. I spent years looking round a particulary town in the west country and didnt find a single one. I guess it must have been the soil type. If you dont have any luck in one place try somehwere else

ok, so basically just check the board and wait until sightings are reported, then go out lookin. And I should just stick to the long unmowed grass that aint burnt brown by the sun. Cheers guys.
Also, anyone who knows any locations in London they would not mind sharing with me, please post, PM or email me at Amor_E_Morte@msn.com. thx.

It is only about 1600.00 miles from new york to uk. and then lest than 2400 miles from New york to Florida. so I cannot see it is 12,000 mikes from UK to Mexico. SOmeone is off on his math.
mj
Could it be me or Xenophobic. Anyone care to comment on the distance between two points?

In all my 15 years of picking I've not once found P. semilanceata in parks or gardens. I've picked in Somerset, the black mountains in Wales and all over Derbyshire and the Peak District and without exception all the fields had sheep in them.

They can grow were any grazer has grazed, sheep, deer, cows, horses, and even rabbits. They can show up in manured lawns and bowling greens ext. I'm off to north wales for the weekend, so wish me luck

With regards to finding libertycaps, although in my experience they are found in greater quantites on animal grazed grassland, I have found them on football pitches, which I doubt have any major animal grazing on them, save the odd rabbit.
I found about 100 libertycaps about 2 years ago, on football pitches just outside of Newcastle.
So there is hope for the city hunters.

Yup.. they were growing right on the sides of the pitches where the grass was slightly longer, but still had been mown fairly recently, and also around the cricket pitch. Apparently golf courses are worth checking too.
What's the ?8 manual?
