Went for a very quick 30 min look on my way back from work. Found this 1 lib but couldn't see any others near it. I'm confident in the identification but more worried at why i couldn't find any others near by. Has anyone else ever found literally 1 lib on itself?

It's a liberty cap. They dont always grow in clusters. They can be few and far between most of the time!

3 hours I was out today, not a lib insight.

The temps are dropping next week, hoping the rain stay steady.

Wow.
Thank you for the info.  One lives and learns.
Without question, I would have discarded those.
Some of the similar shaped but pale-gilled fungi are decidedly toxic and personally I always try to err on the side of caution.

Hey guys,
Went for a little hunt today and found what I'm pretty sure are libs. Around Leeds in West Yorkshire.

Anyone able to ID these? Shape seems right and the stems are showing some pretty blue bruising. Fingers crossed

Your photos aren't great but i'd say yes but wait for TI before consuming!

Had another bumper day in NW in Peaks. Gotta be 4,000 between me and my picking pal. Officially my best ever season by long way now!

Few sterile/albino libs too:

:2cents:

For those that haven't had much joy yet just keeping putting in the miles and staring at the grass and you'll find some. Take a mate where you can to cover more ground. Its not even Oct yet! plenty of time. where you find just a few today you might find few hundred at next time!

Best o'luck for the season

Just FYI - at no stage of it's cycle do Semi's ever have gills which are pale in colour, they are always very dark even when dry.
Therefore you can immediately reject several species which may have a somewhat similar bell-like shape if their gills are white, pale grey-ish or yellow.
( - I seem to think the yellow-gilled ones are outright toxic!)

Another good instant clue is the stem - the imposters usually snap off very readily whereas Semi's have a slightly thicker stem which is quite fibrous.

Good luck  :-)

Just let me argue with you on this one. Libs actually can have white colour gills, phenomenon called sterile mushrooms without spores on their gills. Found plenty of them in years and work like usual psilocybin mushroom. Photos below

1st time i came across sterile libs wanted to believe were libs because its uncanny until I compared to others - even then I struggled to chuck em like i did. I haven't since thanks to shroomery.

also always been curious whether steriles active as never had enough to take on their own so always end up mixed up with my haul of standard Libs so cannae distinguish. always presumed yes as I know they can't hurt but would love to have large enough haul to test properly. Until i find that good-sized flush of 20+ i guess i'll never know for sure but will chuck in with the norms nevertheless!

Hi folks, relative newbie to the hunting/gathering here, have been hovering and learning what I can for a couple of seasons but not had much luck in the hunting. Signed up in 2017 but have reregistered as lost account. May have found a couple previously but discarded in doubt.
Seems my luck may have changed today, managed to get out onto Dartmoor this afternoon and found a small number between 350 and 400 metres before the weather beat me, so chuffed, must be the truffles I had in dam a few weeks back helping me πŸ˜‚.
I guess it is the start of many with the rain we've had but was a work trip so not sure I'll get back to same spot hunt more, normally hail from Warwickshire way.
If I manage to upload the pics (using my phone), would appreciate any comments if I've made a mistake, thanks. All were in the right environment and darkish slimy brown colour in the rain, drying to paler whitish brown and some showing blueish bruising on the stem from picking. I'm a tad excited now πŸ™‚

Would appreciate an ID if poss please as my first ones I've actually picked and kept so a total noob really. Thanks.

17 is enough for fairly decent trip too, you might end up with 0.5g when they're dry

Please don't trust my ID alone - I am just a noob making an effort. If in doubt, throw it out.

1191ft above sea level, couldnt find any there so we went further down... couldn'tsay exactly

This is our first time shroom hunting and we are hooked. We collected 60 libs when the rains battered Lancashire and approx 20 in the peak district befooore the heavy rain. Looking forward to more great walks.

All shrooms are beauts but libs man oh man.

I hope to get out this morning or maybe later on. Sheep certainly hold the majority of treasures in our experience. Enjoy!

Amazing season already, found 70 within about half an hour on Dartmoor Tuesday afternoon. It’s a shame the sun set so early! Some of them were proper whoppers as well.

This may be the first year I have enough to dry out and store for the rest of the year!

Happy hunting everyone ☺️

If I were playing the "guess how many toffees are in the jar" game, I would say 55g dried (figuring that all five pics are separate images)

Whatever the case, amazing haul ShroomAnon!! Lovely work :mushroom2::crazy2: :crazy2:

p.s. - please let us know the final drying weight if you can, the curiosity is killing me

will share dry weight when have it! I reckon it could hit 100g.

If u wanna play in the guessing game please note:
- the photos are separate but one photo is missing from the top row as it was too badly focused to bother uploading (sorry my camera is crap)
- i only air dry them for day or 2 with a little assistance from radiator to finish them off but it doesn't dry them as thoroughly as other techniques (e.g. dehydrator) might
