Hey Shroomery family! Would everybody send me out some good vibes today? This will be my third hunt this season, first year hunting ovoids. No luck so far. Last year was my first year hunting ever, but I missed ovoid season and instead was hunting P. Caerulipes and Gymnopilus Sp. (also no luck lol). Thanks to y'alls insight I've stopped aimlessly tromping up and down the creek and started hunting habitat. Wish me luck, fellas! Maybe today will be the day lady psilocybin reveals herself to me

Good luck to ya! I found my first ever ovoids last week and this is my 3rd year hunting them. These fellas are very helpful and have all the info you need to learn the habitat.

Found this small flush slightly off a trail in some old wood chips. The umbonated caps caught my eye and was wondering if anyone had an idea of what they could be.

Thanks -  I was feeling old not being able to find anything new since most of “my spots” were aging out or getting fresh mulch dumped at start of the season but alas they didn’t all get buried....

St. Myco, Just plant stembutts and or a lil colonized material an inch or two deep in damp mulch.  Water occasionally during dry spells, You will be impressed.  I have three beds currently fruiting now with very little effort.  I’m very impressed with how aggressive the ovoid mycelium is.  No pasteurization needed in my experience.  Happy hunting and good luck.

I had also read somewhere about not pasturizing the chips for these. Makes sense to me since I’d be introducing material that’s been out in the open already.
All I have right now is one or 2 colonized chips and some butts in between wet cardboard to the and keep the myc alive if not get growth. I was thinking maybe going back and scooping some aged looking chips not directly from my spot but from around the same river. Don’t want to fuck with the only spot I know of just yet. When the season is dying out that’s a different story.

You think the amount of material I have is enough to start small in a little container or something out in a shed? I can always go back and get more but I don’t want to hurt any further fruiting at the spot.

Nice G! I knew i couldn’t be THAT lucky. Only difference is there was a river next to me but a pile of wood is a pile of wood

Ahhh well still no luck on the ovoid front...in brighter news though I found my first Morel which is pretty freaking sweet! Hey, could someone more experienced please confirm that this is a box elder? It has compound leaves and helicopter seeds, so I'm thinking it is...

These are definitely agrocybes but don't be discouraged because usually if there's agrocybes ovoids might be nearby!

Really awesome stuff everyone!!! :mushroom2: Beautiful pics of ovoids being posted from all around.  So stoked to see so many of you finding your first this yr.  Let's hope the rest of May is just as good as it's starting off with.

koods, Those are freakn massive!!  Super nice score!  :congrats:

Put in many miles along the flood plain since I posted last.  Friday and Saturday were both a bust.  Didn't see any signs of ovoids in my one spot on Friday, just ended up putting stem butts around a bunch of places.  Saturday's hike was in a new area, so didn't know what to expect there, but it definitely looked promising.  Had to rest on Sunday, but yesterday was a fairly good day.  The area I went to on Friday finally had a couple here n there and we were able to meet up with a friend later in the eve to hit up an already producing area.  Today didn't start the way we had hoped (saw 3 ovoid hunters as we drove by to check things out and they were already into things), but ended up picking up when we went to scope a new area and stopped at this place that happened to have a mulched trail.  Needless to say, we stumbled on a pretty good flush.  Those mulch flushes are totally where it's at!  Not quite as fun as wandering thru the woods, but really a thing to witness.

Here's the pics from the area on Monday

Here's a couple from today's adventure

Hi everyone, new here. Just looking for some advice on what I may have found while outdoors. I was out foraging today and came across a bunch of randomly scattered areas of these fruiting. some singular and some in clumps of 2-4, all coming out of silt/sand flood debris. I hadn't been aware of ovoids previously but a quick search would lead me to think this may be what I found. however, there doesn't appear to be any bruising of blue whatsoever to the stems or caps and the fruits are quite fragile with stem separating easily and the cap breaking into pieces easily. Location is NE PA. Any help is appreciated in identifying this mystery for me.

Not ovoids.  This thread is for confirmed finds.  If you'd like to find out what they are plz post an id request in the main forum.

Found those today. Not much, and most were pretty mature. The spot I hit never does that much anyway and prime time was last week, when I worked every waking moment. We have some more rain coming up and I changed jobs to one with much more agreeable hours though, so I should be able to get out to the better spot after that.
