Should I not even be checking woodchips/mulch this early in the season? All of the early finds seem to be in the natural habitats.

Yeah it’s pretty early and the moisture levels aren’t really conducive to fruiting right out of exposed mulch right now. Unless it’s been really wet, youre generally gonna find them at the interface where mulch and nature meet.

That print looks orangey brown.  Those aren’t ovoids. When you find ovoids you won’t need to ask if it’s an ovoid. It will all become obvious to you.

Can you post a clear picture of the spore print?

The PNW will be a little different from the East coast, the PNW tends to be wetter, I would start looking at all habitats if I was you, they are definitely fruiting.

Found a few! There were more than this, but still not a full flush.

Also found 3 fishing poles laying on the trail.

Some pics from today. Lots of success. Things are pretty dry. I don’t expect much more action until we get into a wet period.

Check those sandy stream banks where the grasses interface with the sand.

I also thought they looked a little agrocybey.  Almost looks like a little bruising on the big one though.  But they just have that yellowish tinge to them like agrocybes.

Agrocybe

I promise they're not. IDK why the ones I find look different then in other places but they bruised deep blue. I go through this every year.

Agrocybe

I can see why you might think they're Agrocybe, but I'm seeing bluish tones and a purple brown ring. OP, what do they smell like? I've never collected them, but apparently they have a strong distinctive smell. A spore print would be useful.

They smell like Ovoids. IDK how to describe it. I've been at this for about 5 years and I go with someone who is better than me at it.

IDK why my WV Ovoids look weird like that sometimes but they do.

There they are in the dehydrator. Those are the only 3 big ones I found. They all bruised.

Again, IDK why mine are weird but they are. I'm not a noob, I've been here since '03, I just forgot the password to my old account (36fuckin5) and the email was shut down.

Just looked at that pic and the blue doesn't seem to come through (I think it was the middle one, but it looks more bruised IRL.

I may just toss it anyway.
