I read that they have a distinct smell. Can anyone describe what it smells like?

Like cubes but stronger.  Smells like wet dog to me.

Those plants look herbaceous and if I remember correctly,  ovoidiocystidiata grows where the plants are more hydrophilic.

Hey guys, new to hunting, I live in Montco area but sometimes visit the Susquehanna...  I looked around up there after a rain and not much, but wheee I live has a creek fed pond and a lot of flood plains. Also the pond is right next to cows, I’m not sure if that helps. [image]https://imgur.com/a/YaZHQLM[/image

I know this is an ovoid thread but, what can I expect to grow in the cow shit around me in the following months? I live on a French alps cow farm and they rotate the grazing friends, but where they feed and hang out is heavily shit upon, especially this shack they hang out in it actually overflows with shit.

Ovoids still aren’t up in my part of Kentucky but all these spots look awesome.  I didn’t get to hunt any last year and several floods have been through since 2017.  There’s more old wood than I’ve ever seen and mycelium coming up to the surface in a lot of places.  I think it’s going to be a good season by the looks of things even though it’s taking a little longer to start.  Here’s a few habitat pics.  I know there’s some new hunters that love this stuff.  Also I don’t know if it has been talked about on here before but when hunting natural habitats always try to feel the ground you’re walking on.  When you step down and feel your foot sink down and the ground has that soft lumpy fluffy feel to it check around good.  That’s old buried wood you’re stepping on.  Prime habitat.

Well, my prime and closest (30 minutes) spot is shot for good.  For good reason though.  I was walking through the woods and heard a weird high pitched noise on the ground behind me.  I saw nothing but knew there was some size to the beast.  I walked 25 more yards to the spot and heard it above me? I looked up and saw that beautiful bald eagle flying rough above my head.  It had a bunch of sticks and was just circling
In a tree about 20 feet away was its nest.  Oh and then comes its mate chirping at me.  I got the hell out quick. I definitely don't want to mess that up. The best is 30 yards from a mulch pile. That mulch pile is behind the county forestry main office.  Im done on that site.  Guess it's time to hunger for something local or head 2-3 hoe's to the susquaheavens.

I'm literally 10 minutes from the Susquehanna. I boat and camp on it all the time. Never knew I was in prime ovoid country but also never knew about ovoids until recently. So the river is definitely a spot to look I'm assuming.

Hi everyone, I've been looking at this site for years! I finally made an account and this is my first post!

Anywho, I am in Northeast PA! I just move from central PA and lived a minute from the Susquehanna river. Now I'm probably like a half hour. I'm in coal country which has fairly unhealthy woodlands with tons of old and active mines. Does anyone know if ovoids can grow much in such areas? I do know that the susquehanna was a good place to search. I miss living near it but such is life.

If your in coal country we aren't very far from each other. I live just south of where the two branches merge together. I would love to chat and hear about where you've found stuff on the river. I've never tried shrooms but I really want to and intend to find some this year. Maybe we could even meet and go together sometime.

Searched the Rappahannock early Saturday and found nothing but Agrocybe and Coprinoids.  The approx 500' X 150' spot that I've been seeding for a few years got covered in four feet of sand and debris during the epic flooding late last year.  I guess it might be a good patch in a couple more years if it doesnt get rearranged too bad again... but fat chance of that; it's prob too susceptible to catastrophic flooding & washing out.  Live and learn.

Saturday afternoon went to the spot on a different river that's been sporadically fruiting for three weeks and found a basket full.  Many were stunted and/or aborted due to the extremely windy day last week.  The pins we left a week ago were half mature half aborted.  Only a couple handfuls of fresh, prime specimens but found another new, discreet patch so happy about that and the beautiful day for floodplains hiking.

Hey guys. Central PA here. First year hunting and I see some sort of shrooms popping up. Maybe someone can tell me what they are. They look similar to ovoids but they don't bruise blue. Spore prints are very dark black like. I will find some this year.

Coprinoids, and those dont usually grow in the prime ovoid habitat.

There are logs in at least one of my spots that produce both ovoids and Coprinoids at different times of the season.  But we've established more than a couple differences between my spots and yours so

These were growing near a small stream and on a dead stump. Found others which I believe are also coprinoids growing right out of the tree in the stream. Going to head to a creek near by and maybe the river to hunt. Wish me luck!

We literally stumbled over these guys and after some sleuthing figured out what they were after noticing the blue bruising on a few we accidentally trampled. This flush was found in a park near Portland, OR on some wood chips near the edge of meadow. We also found a second, more mature flush in another area of the same park. My first time ever finding actives!!! And we had munched some cubes before setting out hunting (looking for oysters.) I was so incredibly happy and giggly all day after we found them!  I’ve never taken ovoids before, anyone got any insight for me?

Stronger and cleaner than cubes. Start with 1.5 dried or 15 g wet.
