Fixed the link. Thanks for pointing that out.

And no worries. From what i remembered I thought I had seen one quart per half pint for the ratio but logically I’ didn’t see why 1 half pint for 2 quarts wouldn’t work.

From the limited experience I have with spawning BRF cakes to coir during my first year of growing (3-4 times) First thing I did was I tried grating my cakes on different sides of the standard kitchen grate and immediately noticed a significant difference in volume, the smaller holes turned a 200ml cake into roughly 1000ml cake spawm, grating a cake on the large holes produced long flat soggy looking strands to roughly unimpressive looking 500ml or so.

I do remember that I felt that I probably shouldnt have dunked the cakes before grating them, next time I spawned cakes I grated them right after birth and saw that this is the way to go about this process (for me) more volume, much more "inoculation points" when mixed with coir and resulted in much quicker full colonization of substrate. What took around a week previously only took I kid you not like 2.5 days from spawning to roughly equal parts coir so about one 1L cake spawn to 1L coir. Absolutely no need to dunk cakes that will be spawned to well hydrated coir, actually counterproductive in terms of how much volume of spawn youll get per cake. More is more in this case

If memory doesnt fail me Im pretty sure I one time did 1-4 ratio even, it colonized within reasonable timeframe but took much longer than 2-4 days which I was normal when I spawned 1-1 ratio. Eventually the 1-4 ratio wasnt able to create a nice myc dense surface in the spawned tub and I saw just a few small fruits from that tub before it started smelling like vinegar and in the trash it went.

Plz just consider the math here, a 1/2 pint BRF-Verm cake contains around pretty much exactly 30g of BRF per jar (30g BRF is roughly 50ml iirc) so when you're spawning around 50ml of BRF to 4000ml of coir you're really pushing the limits of what is practical or even possible. 50ml BRF to 1500-2000ml coir no doubt works, as from experience id not spawn a grated cake to more than 1000ml coir, seems the most reasonable IME:shrug:

With mine I very much did speed back of brain quick maths.

I half pint of TWAPE that was dried the fuck out. Felt that one quart of substrate wouldn’t provide enough water for dicks and two with the condition of the cake was easily the pushing amount as there was no way to know how happy the mycelium was or wasn’t.

With this being 2 weeks later since sending it to “bulk” and it’s pinning, I probably mathed it right.

I didn’t dunk it but I did give my cake a 5 minute soak since it was super super dry. Didn’t grate it either. Just super super super crumbled it pretty easily.

Left for a few days to get engaged, came home to my AC at about 19 C but it felt much cooler and these tall skinny Hillbilly pumpkin were going strong , my TWAPE second flush all aborted except two large ones.

Finally! After 17 days since inoculation — they're dunked. No signs of contamination, and all five cakes have survived (so far). Tomorrow they'll be moving into their new homes.

By the way, this is the first time I've done a dunk using freezer ziplock bags. I'll relax a bit more down the line, and eventually they'll all be sharing the same bathtub. :smile2:

Hugs

Good morning, everyone!

The cakes are now all settled into their new little homes.

I do have a 36L tub, but it felt unnecessarily large for just five cakes. I also figured that having five separate fruiting chambers would let me run a few more comparisons while aiming for minimal intervention. In the end, a 5L bottle is almost the perfect size for my cakes. Even if it's not the most practical setup, the same principle can easily be applied to a larger tub later on.

On another note, the 120ml jars inoculated with Tidal Wave (multispore) on 31/07 showed their first signs of activity this morning:

The Golden Teacher (multispore) from 29/07, which I put into PP5 containers, are also starting to pick up speed:

And today, the GT clones start their week of consolidation.

Let's just hope there's no rebellion on the farm.

Hugs

Some toque F11 looking good I love this one so far. Really vigorous mycelium from spore to fruit very fast as well and a prolific pinner. Probably the fullest canopy I've had yet. Definitely running this again I really need coir tho and times are rough rn lmao but enjoy

I thought toque f11 is a fenolial generation 11 mutation selected to be a mutation and should grow like a clamshell 🤔🧐 that looks like a simple golden teacher idk tho

🤷that's what I had it sent to me as I honestly have no clue but they look somewhat similar to what I've seen except the ones I see typically are a bit lighter but who knows. I'm trying to remember who sent it to me.
