The short answer is no. On the day I place the cakes inside the Water Tub I do nothing until the mycelium has poked through the coir (or verm) layer and "grasped" 50-80% of it, when that occurs is the day that I set the initial surface conditions by trying to tweak the spray nozzle to produce as fine mist as possible and then (very important) to spray from atleast 2-4 feet above the cakes, and dont worry about aiming or steering the spray towards the cakes, the objective is not to be efficient and to cover the mycelium in droplets as fast as possible because this may cause the droplets to set too quickly, be too large in size which can often result in pooling or far from optimal type of droplets. You want as tiny droplets as possible I call them microscopic even tho theyre not that tiny but its to drive a point home.


Ok so we know by now that these (imo) are the optimal kind of droplets to have on the myc surface to produce the best pinset: (zoom in to see clearly)





But a layer of these tiny droplets isnt being produced by a single or individual fine "film" of mist landing on the cake, (Because a single "film" of this kind of mist will only create droplets so tiny theyre barely visible) rather its the accumulation of additional sprays that ultimately create bigger and bigger droplets as the fine mist fuses with the already created droplets and so the droplets on the cakes will grow. Sometimes I need to spray up to 10-20 times until I finally arrive at something resembeling tiiiiiiny ass droplets like in the pics, but sometimes I achieve this with only a handful of sprays, this depends on how fine of a mist you can produce and how far above you are spraying.


Id say when I spray my cakes Id say roughly 10-20% of the mist shooting out actually makes it to the surface of the cakes, (per spray session) a "spray session in this case would be me holding the spray bottle high above the cakes and aggressively pumping 4-5 times and then I put my head close to the cakes to inspect how the surface conditions are forming as the mist is still slowly descending. Does that make sense? You can actually try this out right now with any surface you dont need cakes, just a surface that doesnt absorb, that would be a good practice to try to recreate a huge number of tiny tiny droplets in very close proximity to eachother but without merging into big droplets.

But not limited to only cake grows



If you zoom in you'll see the same surface conditions as the cakes, hence pin formation and healthy fruits reaching maturity. This cant be done in a dry environment that need constant spraying
