Nihilism vs Absurdism
    #4868476 -

I am hoping there is someone out there who knows more about Nihilism and Absurdism than I do.
Could anyone explain the difference? As far as I can tell, they're nearly synonymous. The only difference seems to be where they are derived from.

absurdism - A philosophy, often translated into art forms, holding that humans exist in a meaningless, irrational universe and that any search for order by them will bring them into direct conflict with this universe.
nihlism - A doctrine holding that all values are baseless and that nothing can be known or communicated.

Good question. I used to differentiate between the two by saying that absurdism rejects all knowledge, but if nihilism holds that all values are baseless, knowledge would probably be included among these values as well.

when i distinguish them in my mind, and when i read their use, i think of absurdism as the disavowal of all knowledge (nothing is knowable) and nihilism as the disavowal of all values (there is no right or wrong). also when nietzsche talks about nihilism i think he talks about it in this way, as just the disavowal of value.

if you go with those definitions in your post, then yeah, they're pretty similar. absurdism has maybe more of an emphasis on the irrational quality of the universe (as opposed to an a-rational quality), wheras nihilism has more of an emphasis on nothingness in all its expressions.

my two cents.
