Jason Bourne is enlightened.
    #3637489 - 01/17/05 12:21 AM (19 years, 2 months ago)

(I know I'm gonna express this badly)

okay. well? he is enlightened. (assuming we can agree on a strechy, floppy defenition of Enlightenment.) basically he leads a life into which problems pop willy-nilly (sound familiar?). with these problems he deals. soundly, efficiently, no fucking around, no baggage, no self-delusions. he has emotions, he is not a cold robot, but his emotions do not cloud his judgement. he acts with perfect logic. he sets and achieves goals with no ego strutting around, no fanfare or self-flagellation. he doesn't slip up. he doesn't linger for one last nostalgic glance, satisfying some theatric part of himself. he does his business and leaves.

if I could apply this no-bullshit ethic to my life then I would get a lot more things done and be happier, I think.

Enlightenment is bad word.

...yes, I agree. but I was hurtin for a word. seriously, I sat there for a while pondering which word to use. I went with enlightenment because simply saying Jason Bourne is "on top of his shit" didn't carry the right weight. I'll grant that 'enlightenment' carries too much weight and stupid baggage.

remember, Jason Bourne went through some quasi-mystical CIA secret deadly training on all aspects of his functioning, to forge him into a killing machine. But as I said, he's not 100% cold robot, he feels emotions and can even respond emotionally if it suits him, but ultimately the emotions he feels don't cloud his judgement. all the various parts of him that make him up are aligned and working together, like the atoms in a magnet. he thinks clearly because he isn't showing off or playing a game. (remember, I am assuming we agree on a loose version of the definition of 'enlightenment'.)

anyways, he's not some everyday Johnny Common Denominator, he's a special case, which is why the word I chose had to have some weight. I still agree 'enlightened' isn't quite right, if only because everyone reading this probably has a different definition for it. I would do well to find some word which means exactly the same thing to everyone, and also means exactly what I'm trying to convey. it doesn't exist, though.

So he's in a constant state of intentional awareness?

I can see that.

yes. we can go with 'constantly intentionally aware'.

although his karma is probably pretty messed up. he may be one of the only enlightened people who will still be reborn.

no wait, if he were truly enlightened his karma would be blank. he's not enlightened in that sense, is he. but he's not a robot!! if you have a perfect human, and he's not a robot, then what is he but enlightened?

how is he a perfect human?
hes an ex assasin ... ie; he kills people becuase hes told to
he forgot who he is
and his higher up thinks he knows to much to have fallen off the bandwagon
so they pay other assasins to kill him
he kills them first
doesnt sound like much enlightenment to me
