i'm curious to what you mean when you say that "if we could understand every chemical in the Universe, then we would understand the Universe."?

Isn't is possible for one to understand all parts of a thing and still not completely understand the whole?

What you say also does not seem to answer the question of consciousness. Is consciousness divisible like chemicals are? Chemicals are physical; consciousness/mind cannot be cut in half. Or so it seems. How does understanding chemicals relate at all to understanding the Universe?

To the OP, I agree. I think that certain chemicals, when treated with respect, can bring people to enlightenment. But I also think that you must bring people to their enlightened state only when they are ready. You can't force someone to understand... they have to feel it. I feel you though. I hear what you are saying. :smile:

Maybe Shulgin will crack it in his next release. I don't think dopamine stimulators are the way forward, it appears we simply don't have enough chemicals in the brain. I take this purely from the fact all of these kind of drugs (promoting calm/wellbeing) have a tolerance so far.

So we're down to new psychedelics, global warming, atom bombs, and mayan gods for nibiru in 2012. I can feel it coming.  :levitate:

Latest book? I'll check it out as long as the writing style isn't too rigid.

IMO chemicals that bring short term calm are never going to work. Psychedelics are the only hope IMO due to the length of the afterglow but it seems a very small chance that there will ever be one good enough.

He's dead, actually he wrote it many years ago. Most likely before you were born. I actually found the book in the Fiji islands in little library on the main island. He was right, the new brain and the old brain aren't in sinc and can't be fixed in time to save humanity except with chemistry. And the interesting thing was before this book he was anti drug.

I'm starting to think that might be the plan. I'm no paranoid conspiracy theorist but the message on the Georgia guide stones makes me wonder..

Sounds like a great plan to me :thumbup:.... That is all I know about the stones though. I haven't looked to deep into there actual purpose or why they were put there.

Another idea I have is to choose who can have children and who can't based on intelligence and morals. No genocide necessary but it would no doubt come with a lot of protest, cause huge riots and wars but here is the idea... All family's of lower IQ would simply not be allowed to reproduce. We cut their family line off at the last child that was born. We don't kill them but they wouldn't be allowed to have any children. If they want there would be an option for them to adopt a child from a higher IQ family but after they die, there genes would no long be in circulation to dumb down they rest of the world....

I still havnt thought of a realistic way this could work though. Getting this to actually happen would be damn near impossible...

I realize I'm the only one taking this seriously... :rolleyes:, My brain isn't really picking up on sarcasm well right now. I'm not as enligtened as usuaul. Just alittle enlightened.

I don't know about the pill though. Swap all birth control pills with cyanide pills and we could stop alot of births.

So what kind of enlightenment are you advocating? hmm it can be somewhat complicated and depends on the systemic approach taken to identify and the school of buddhism

in theravada, which i'm less familiar with, the term arahant refers to one who has reached enlightenment (as in ended all suffering and future rebirth - realized noself/emptiness) whereas a buddha is an arahant with more levels of perfection (omniscient, etc)... i believe there's three levels of buddhas in this system, one who reaches it from hearing a buddha's teaching but cannot teach themselves, one who hears and can teach, and one who reaches it by themselves and can teach (like the historical buddha)... I could be wrong though

in the mahayana schools, the goal is more specific to become a buddha and not just an arhat (which means one who's reached individual enlightenment but cannot teach / is not omniscient etc)... it's called the 'bodhisattva ideal' (where a bodhisattva is one who works for the enlightenment of all beings - strives for buddhahood to help everyone)

on the path to buddhahood within the mahayana, there's ten levels called bhumis of bodhisattvahood prior to full buddhahood... a good read on them is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhumi_(Buddhism)

back to the OP... the pill would have to erase karmic imprints on the subtle minds and not just render a physical alteration of the gross mind for temporary release from suffering (that could be akin to becoming a heroin junkie though less destructive) but the negative karma would still have to ripen eventually

plus it would pose a problem with supply... imagine becoming dependent on a pill for infinite bliss (enlightenment) and then losing your source? that in itself would manifest as intensely negative minds (anger, violence, attachment to the previous state, jealousy of those with pills (lol), etc)... i think if anything it'd be setting oneself up for the possibility of a major downfall... afterall enlightenment is supposed to be a permanent release from all suffering and causes of future suffering - and relying on anything by definition would render this impermanent

also, enlightenment is quite possible sober :lol:

i'm all for any expedient means to enlightenment though... whatever works the fastest... also means of removing suffering and causing happiness on the relative level are great prior to reaching enlightenment - so long as the means is skillful and the effects well understood (which is a lot harder to know than it seems)

Well, I like the fact that I can go to a hospital and get surgery if I need it.  Antiseptics and improved hygiene are a nice plus too.
