enlightenment = having compassion for all living things

i thought it was the compassion for all things existing? i.e. loving all thing
or is love just meant to be directed at one entity?

OOISI, Swami is talking about the feelings that LOVE invokes. The love you feel holding the woman of your dreams in your arms, whether the woman is real or imagined. Hopefully she is real, becuase then the love is immense.

I understand that what you are speaking about (enlightenment = having compassion for all living things
Niravana = sacrificing your existence to make the source of love stronger, never to exist again, renouncing the throne of the self and the universe) all show love, but it's not the same kind of love.

The kind of love of which Swami is speaking is "eros" love. It is the love you feel when you kiss the woman for whom you feel a great deal of attraction for the first time.

It is the feeling of fire, and of wind, and is as old as time. It weakens the knees and instills a pit in one's stomach.
