What is a TC?

But you sure should post them so someone with more xp can look at em

Hey shroomsurf!
To me it also looks kinda sketchy. I can't tell if it is mold or something, but I'd definitely keep transfering if I were you. Maybe changing to another recipe could homogenize everything up a little bit. Or even better if you could also transfer from other plates. Always look for organisation and strong myc, either rizo or tormentose, it doesn't matter. Just remember transfering from the leading edge and keep it small, with the size of a grain of rice or so. But if you decide to transfer it anyways to grain, you will notice there if the myc was healthy or not, either by how it colonises or when you shake it.
By the way, TC means 'trusted cultivator'. It's a label you see under the usernames of those who are activelly contributing to the forum

Thanks, I'll either do another T or just do another strain from MSS onto agar tonight...

I haven't done my own agar yet, but maybe that's the problem so I think I'll use another genetics to confirm about the agar...

Thank you...

I'm sorry I was the original party pooper. I legit looked at your pic for the longest time and it took me hours to decide to post about it (because of uncertainty and not wanting to break your positive spirit you had going there).

Whatever happens, healthy myc or not, don't wave that flag ---> :whiteflag:

This post has been here forever, guess nobody is messing with Jesus...

I had mask on, gloves, in front of the hood, heat flamed scraper couple times, 70% stuff and went from close to the hood towards me...

And I just put spores onto 9 plates to beat the odds...

Might have put way too much spores, but this is how I learn by growing mold and over spore'ing :tongue2:...lol

You didn't goof by flaming then using iso on the blade did ya? Would explain this quick and ez fix.

I don't use a fh but the direction sounds backwards. Shouldn't you bring in tools from your body towards the plate and hood? Since it blows towards you, any tams you accidently bring in will blow from the tool towards you and hit anything in between. Maybe it's counter-intuitive though. Another fh user might correct me on this one

Another thing to check i can think of is the laminar flow. If the speed is off that would cause a full set to fail trying to work in turbulent air.

Trying to think of other things that could cause total failure. Dirty spores is possible, but probably wanna check other stuff before blaming them.

Hi, I learned from someone's to not iso after flame so I got that one ...

I also heard from someone to go from hood to me when doing FH work but I'm also curious others methods!? Maybe the thought of having to go back to one's self after being at the filter is over risking contam, instead of from the hood once to one's self, not sure that's intuitively correct, but it's less moves (from the hood to oneself) logistically speaking (uses fancy agar words...lol)

Yea, I looked again and I put way to many spores, but I figure I'll have to do atleast T1's and I have 9 on board to choose from!

I did the smoke test on the FH as did I talk in person to the designer and he said he designed really carefully with test equipment, but with my "test incense equipment" the smoke comes out real steady to about 18" past the filter and in a 13" X 15" heighth and width. I would have been upset if it hadn't and called the guy again but it looks like clean air in kinda a pretty big space to do laminar work...

Here is the FH I purchased...

https://mycology-supply.com/collections/air-filter-units/products/mycology-supply-laminar-flow-hepa-filter-13-x-15

It was either that or the labrat 13" X 15" FH, both have the same filter/pre-filters, just mine is less deep but same heighth/width, plus mine is more portable and way lighter...

Thanks for your helpfulness...

there is definitely some finesse needed when working in front of laminar flow
I prefer to stand while working - and keep anything im moving through the air ABOVE jars/bags/plates and close to the filter

Move the exposed culture over objects to remain in flow, never behind objects where turbulence could deposit contaminants on your wedge.

Keep your hands to the rear of any object in flow while inoculating, open lids without placing hands between the jar and the filter.
