The Space APE "Enos" Project 28
#28181468 - 02/10/23 08:40 PM (11 months, 10 days ago) |

Here I'll be logging my work on stabilizing a new variety I'm calling Space APE, a unique phenotype from an APE clone I call Enos that started from a germination plate primordia. Name chosen for the UFO shape of the fruits and Enos was the first chimp to orbit the earth.
These are carrying the potency you expect from PE types, are still albino, and are fruiting faster than PE types do ime.
I'm very excited for the opportunity to bring something new and unique to the community. I plan to spread these to the cult community in the near future once some stabilization work is done to cut down on reversion. More on that as things develop.
2/8/23 - Copy of first post when I realized what exactly this was, and decided I will attempt to stabilize it.
Mystery Solved! New variety coming?
So I wasn't sure why my APE's from the OG were coming in with this unique appearance.

Recently I found images of previous runs that were normal and took a look back at my plates.

I took a hyphal knot from the germ plate and have been running a clone this whole time which explains the full coverage and uniform appearance.
These are still Albino and still carry the APE potency, but have a flatter "UFO" shape to them, Faster time to fruit, have a yellow tint when dried and don't turn full blue on caps when mature. When this run matures I plan to swab a few samples and try to turn out the first generation. Hopefully these aren't spore-less and stabilizing this variation through spores will be possible.
Here's some pics of some of the current tubs and the final dried shrooms. I want to call it Enos, but maybe a less obscure name like Space APE would be more appropriate. I'll put up a thread for this project sometimes soon.

2/10/23 - First swabs taken and put to plates for the F1
First swabs goin down now. Gonna hit the plates immediately. Fingers crossed.

2/13/23 - Germination of Spores (T0) We got germination on 2/4. Largest splotches could be some gill material, but I think the smaller ones are spores. Gonna transfer in morning.
I'm rushing so images in order they uploaded. First one is contams, I must have been sloppy so ill tighten up.you can see I was little tired as I also labeled 2 "1's" but no "A"

2/23/23 - First F1 Grain Jars Inoculated
Tonight the first F1's to grain were done. Couple wedges from a T1 plate to 3 jars. 1 to expand and 2 for spawning assuming no issues. Plate looked clean with 50/50 split in the growth appearance.(i took the nicer half). Plenty more plates coming up behind this, so there's limited risk in progressing generations as fast as I can like this.

5/3/23 - Check in. F1 and F2 have finished, F3 to plates soon. , I'm preparing to put F3 to plates soon. It's already pretty consistent. I had feared I was getting gill tissue clones, but its been the same for each sample and not strictly genetics for my desired pheno, Maybe they're mixing
More personal, I'm sorry I don't have a photo, I'll get one asap. My health is not in a good place. I've kept this going despite that and plan on seeing this through.
I've also seen similar mushrooms around going by "super APE". Those aren't these. They look different, fat bloody shape instead of ufo, I've only seen them with some pigment, not true albino either.
[gradient:#EB3434,#] 5/25 - F2 pics[/gradient]. Pretty consistent on some key features out the gate; albino, will get blue dot with time(take em when I can), and potency all where they should be. The drift I've noticed in this generation is mostly height, which takes away the ufo look. In addition to selection, I'm going to try back crossing the first spores into some F3 runs to see if it helps stabilize height.

-- 7/27/23. first f3s. Will need redone plates with back crossing to stabilize the UFO some of these are first f3's
lost labels qnd most missing ufo pheno. this is where non stabilized stuff will fall apart and why stabilizing right before release is so important. The difference between being a real dedicated am myc, and just some guy that got lucky trying to capitalize immedietly.
I need to run more f3 and begin some back crossed f3's to ensure stability of the pheno.

The Giveaway - TBD
My mailbox is starting to get hit so I wanna put this out there before its flooded. I fully intend to spread this to as much of our community as possible. I also want it to be stable and last a long time.
I know most of you know how this works, but for our newer growers: Stabilizing spores requires selective breeding for multiple generations until it consistently produces the same phenotype. Releasing unstable genetics early can quickly revert and possibly interfere with the spreading of later stable genetics.
Please understand requests and trade offers will be declined until this is ready to go out and be stable for you. Thanks.

I noticed your post in the picture thread and was wondering about the pheno. Those are gorgeous, I really hope you can stabilize them, great job on the name too!

I had a pheno of APE that I never cloned that produced similar fruits as yours but not with such a prolific flush. Nice work!

Thanks man. Dense canopies are from a little luck getting a good clone or some lucky ms genetics + solid tub setting & conditions. I really hit the lottery getting both in a random plate knot.

Tbh im not sure. A few of my white varieties will do it on occasion. I think its genetic. This one has done it every run.
