Could be senescence (idk how old that myc is), could be it doesn't like the nutes, could be tam. IMO best way is to transfer a small piece from leading edge to a diff nutes plate to find out.

I'm game to try agar after having injected spores to BRF with mixed results.

I have a print (B+) and a couple of syringes of PE to work with.

I believe I have almost all that I need in reading through lots of posts, and plan to start with an MEA based recipe.

For petri dishes (rather than no pour) glass seems to be ridiculously expensive and I am trying hard not to waste money getting started in this hobby!

Do most folks go with plastic dishes? I see there are "vented" lids and assume this is not what I want.

Disposable Petri dishes are about 500 units for $100 USD. Pretty good. You can get like 5 Pyrex plates for that cost. I personally use plastic. If I had access to glass it would unquestionably be what I used.

Today is a big win for me (a little early to call it that but I'm very hopeful).

I did cultivate a bit many many years ago, mostly as a bystander, learning while trying to help a friend cult.A few weeks ago, I decided I wanted to make this a hobby for myself and started learning as much as I could. I did initiate myself to agar, with the help of this community and countless hours of reading.

My 1st agar project was to clean a bacterial GT LC (I know, not the best place to start). LC inoc'd plates were straight up gross. I did many T2s. Few of them were looking much better.

Today I did 4 T3s and I'm confident they will come out clean (/pray).

While I was at it, today I also knocked-up a few plates with BM LC, hoping this one won't be as bad as the GT LC I had (only 1 pic because not much to see here).

PS: Some of my plates were wrapped with 2'' micropore tape because I was out of 1'' last time I did agar. IT WAS HORRIBLE. Hard to remove, all the plates were sticky. Today I used parafilm and I will never go back to micropore tape.

Tormato is right, PC for sure is the best way to do it. But if you want to try agar in the meantime (before you get your hands on a PC), you can sterilize your media bottle and it's content in a pot or even in the microwave. Not optimal but it works,

Do those also get to 15psi? Or should I just get a pressure cooker?

Instapots work. Too be fair you might even get lucky with the boiling water method, but in best practice it's crucial to get to sterilization temps and sustain it for the minimum duration.

*Side note: this shit sucks editing and quoting using a phone.... FML I need a desktop or something :facepalm:
