No. Once you clone a fruit, it's no longer MS. You can expect to see a tub of mushrooms that look similar to that one if the tub is grown under the same conditions. Environmental conditions, water retention, spawn to sub ratio etc. will change the way that your tub fruits. If we both ran the same culture side by side, we would likely see something a bit different because our environmental conditions and the way that we get shit done will be different.

Normally, when selecting a clone, it's a good idea to select something dense from a cluster vs. a hollow solo fruit that's all by itself. If you select a solo mushroom, you might grow out a tub that has 6 or 7 of those in it and nothing more.  You're more likely to get more clusters or a canopy from a something that came from a cluster. Try to maximize the yield.

Fast cultures are great too but it's hard to find something that checks off everything on the list.

Use activated charcoal. It makes plates so black that you ask "how much more black can they be?" and the answer is "None."

Plus it's a nutrient.

Plus it somehow doesn't fade as the eat it, because there's more underneath, I suppose.

Does it matter  what kind of activated charcoal I use? It looks like I can order some made from hardwood or coconut.. there may even be more options, but those seem to be the most common on Amazon.

Hey does anyone have any good cling cutting technique ? I can't for the love of fucking god cut it clean. I spent like 10 minutes sharpening my huge butchers knife and the rolls still get stuck and break. Saw knives are even worse.

I've always used the kind of dispenser with a sliding cutter. That makes it very easy to get 1-inch-wide strips that pretty much lie flat on the box after you cut them. It's then easy to pick them up and wrap dishes with them, even with nitrile-gloved hands. Another benefit is that it doesn't leave so much static charge on the film.

The link is to a Kirkland/Costco product, but I bet there are other brands and sources with a similar package.

https://www.amazon.com/Kirkland-Signature-Stretch-Tite-Plastic-Wrap/dp/B00FZNF502

I use thee glad brand just because it was what was in the cabinet but if it has the serrated blade built into the lid I have found if you tear a little from the bottom then tear down from the top you get good strips for wrapping and not a tapered strip not cut correctly at one end. Maybe that might help ya.

Understood, and thank you that is incredibly useful info. I did have a previous flush with decent canopy but was not ready to start agar at that point, so my current dish is mainly for learning.

I have some BRF cakes about to fruit so I can pick a better one to clone soon I hope

I have a question about genetics.

I have a plin (plate pin) clone that I really like. I grew some uniformly good shrooms on a few shoe boxes that all matured at the same time in each box and were stronger than other classic cubes I've grown from MS.

Then I cloned one of the stipes of those clone shrooms, and am now growing out that on SBs.

Do you predict the genetics and potency of the clone of the shroom of a clone will be similar to the original clone?

I know I won't know until I try it, but does anyone here have experience with this?

thank you.

I occasionally have cloned and recloned a clone. It works fine, but they do say not to do that

I would expect very similar results but at the same time, as you said, it will need to be tested to be sure

Can anyone recommend a list of cameras that could take very high-quality pictures of mycelium through the glass mason jars?

Maybe like budget, performance, best?

What's your budget? My camera and the lens I use cost about 1600 dollars together.

I used to take OK photos on here with a 40 dollar used old digital camera from eBay.

Here's a little I write-up I did on this:

Thanks! I bet with manual focus on my phone I can get a decent one. I see now why the autofocus was always trying to grab the plate lid, rather than the inside. My S8 Note is decent quality, thinking about the new S22 note for my next phone. Would probably be hella difference without me spending extra on a stand alone camera. I would never use it tbh, I barely use my phone as convenient as it is!

I read somewhere recently that this isn’t really as big a problem with cubes as apposed to other types (some gourmets) and people have had no issues cloning clones 2,3 and 4 generations sometimes. Just save your previous generation I’d say and go back to it if things start to get slow/shitty/strange.

How would you keep a sporeless cube going without cloning clones of clones?

Even “sporeless” cubes  will throw some fruits you can swab.

Except shit like enigma, I don’t know how long that culture has been in circulation

Idk if any shrooms are actually sporeless. Just low count or low to no drop. I briefly talked with someone with a "sporeless" strain and they were still present on the gills just not dropped. I assume this is the case with the spotless oyster strain going around.
Ide say swabs, which will likely have to pick up even fragments of tissues which will lead to clone culture along with you spore culture, but with proper technique you should be able to isolate no problem.
I actually have plans to work with that oyster strain for projects. So ide be down to hear whatever someone else thinks too.

I mean APE might fit along those lines even, but we know people work those spores as well, idk if they drop for sure tho or not..

And really if your sporeless is "throwing" spores, that's probably not the sporeless genetics you want.

It's easy. Put some qtips in a grain jar and PC for 15 minutes. Handle in front of flow or SAB, if it's flow I would set the cap upside down in front of the flow for at least 15 minutes to allow blow off of unwanted contams, SAB I would leave cap down on a rack of sorts to allow contams to drop, come back after swab, cut foil in sterile location, allow swabs to dry 15 minutes, wrap in sterile location.

Then trade me one! Ha

Yes, Enigma can only be shared (illegally, haha) with a bit of culture, right? Like a smear of mycelium on a swab, wraped in foil, and sent to agar as soon as you get it so it doesn't dry, or in a syringe, right?

So isn't all enigma a clone of a clone of a clone x 225 or so? Why hasn't senescence made it suck?

Because scenesence is alot more complex than people think, it has alot more to do with other than age of culture and how much it has expanded from spore.
Nutrients source, any sort of stress factor, diseases and parasites, even general genetic stability are all things to consider when talking about scenesence.
Bod and workman got a thread started on it at one point I think.

I think its best practice with enigma to work from a master culture rather then cloning over and over. Atleast thats what Ive done, cloning didnt go well for me.
