Quantom Soft Drops 1

okayokayokay. did you read how i made my plates tho? So i showed you how I like to make my agar in those little containers. Sure its cheaper and blahblah, but still not sold?
Well have you heard of the tiger drop? well ya so there's some other ways to make agar containers out of little food containers, kind of like what i was doing in the LAST THREAD.
Maybe read through this first, or maybe stop and check out where this idea found its roots.
This is the tiger drop by ElasticTiger brought to me by PastyWhyte, https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22601023/fpart/all/vc/1
Or how about Crack Plates? a little newer, https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26373655/fpart/all/vc/1
But then we have Munches LI tek, https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22833314
lets recap over those 3 older teks really quick and see where we fall in. So the Tiger Drop by pasty is great, we want to drop the puck from the container, but we don't want to make the container because its kind of meh. removes contamination vectors, and is much much easier.
Crack plates are super cool because hes using the same containers we are, he just kinda has a hole poking deal and no pour concept we just arent about.
and munches LI tek, well we want a softer agar so it breaks up into a bunch of inoculation points! I have found that not using water, like stated in his LI tek, but still utilizing the softer agar makes a huge difference, it is basically LI. You could take the extra step to sanitize water and shake it like he does, I found it unnecessary.
So what do I do? I make plates like in my last thread, just pour the agar into the soufflé cups, bag after until use, wrap with cling/parafilm after inoculation.
But I make my agar as follows:
1000ml Water
18g Extra Light Malt Extract
16.6g Agar NOTE THIS AGAR WILL STILL PERFORM NORMALLY FOR TRANSFERS!!!!!!!
the only difference here is that its commonly recommended to use 20g agar to 1000ml water, this is what's going to allow your agar to break up more like a Liquid Inoculant.\
And then were going to take the colonized soufflé cups in our SAB or flow hood, wipe them off with alcohol,

removed the cling wrap and pop them directly into our jars or bags of grain by squeezing around the bottom, loosening the puck,
and popping it out in a swift motion.

I like to corner the agar with some grains
and smoosh it all together really really good between my fingers and grains until there's barely any recognizable agar left,
then shake the living crap out of the bag.

Simply put, squeezing (SOFT) agar {thanks munch} out of small food container (Tiger Drop) {thanks ElasticTiger and pasty}, while utilizing a cheaper agar container (Quantom/Crack Qcups/) {thanks crack}, without having to do no pours, cause i think that's inefficient.
I also put a little bit of wheat bran and an even littler amount of coir. Check Bods Spiced Up Oats Tek.
If you look to see how the tiger drop works, if you see how munches Blended LI works, this is just pretty much a step in the middle, along with it being in little to go cups.

You may want to check your history, there's a reason it was called the tiger drop.

SHOUT OUT TO elastictiger?
Honestly I never really came across him. I only read Pastys thread, and never even approached it like he did, just kind of did it the way I described. I had actually clicked on the link that lead me to the original tiger drop, but i never read it. Really I barely read Pastys thread because I knew I didn't want to do it with containers like that. I feel its really just as much a tiger drop, as a pasty plate, as a munch LI as a crack plate in ways, all in which I haven't actually done. and I probably only really read through munches write up honestly. And I have done his blenderless LI a couple times, and it's cool, just a other step that just not as necessary with the lighter agar honestly.
But if what you were getting at is that I didn't mention elastictiger, my bad. Maybe ill update the OP and give him some credit. and i do apologize for that.

Can this technique cause very uniform growth that kind of looks moldy rather than a mycelial spread? I tried this (with a petri dish) and it almost looks like I inoculated mold. It should have been psilocybe natalensis, so I'm not sure how its non-rhizomorphic mycelia are supposed to look.

Yes sir it can. That does look like myc to me although I've never grown Nats. When did you inoculate, with how much agar?
Looks very similar to some lions mane I've inocced this way. And if Nats are similar to lions mane in that they colonize very thin and whisky, then thicken up as a whole.
But if it's cobweb it will be pretty darn gross in a day ot two.

Thanks! The image was from 4 days after inoculation, and if I recall, the agar was probably colonized to about a 1.5" / 4 cm diameter. It hasn't changed much in the day since the photo, so I think it's not cobweb. I'll wait for it to thicken up, then inspect and smell it. I'll spawn it to shoebox if it seems kosher.

way too fast to be mycelium of an agar wedge, and too widespread. even with fully colonized LCs my wheat doesnt look like that unless i have mold

I'm new to wheat. Also new to inoculating with large amounts of soft agar (not a wedge). Also new to Nats. I shouldn't have switched out my entire process at once. I made myself into a clueless newbie again.

I’ve only grown mould so far haha, though I’m not giving up! Looks very interesting QM, maybe one day(in the distant future) I’ll give it a go.
