Thanks for the tek. The pictures you post look amazing.
I'm waiting for some plates to cool to make some transfers:

Rather than heating the agar mixture on the stove and mixing with an immersion blender, I tried heating it right in the media bottle in the microwave and mixing it with a milk frother. Hopefully they'll end up as clear as with the blender, as it was much quicker and easier to clean up.
For coloring, I used blue from the primary color set.
I have tried maybe a half dozen agar recipes, and my first batch of uncolored BRF plates have been the only ones to pin so far (though were difficult to see, being mostly white), so for the black plates I swapped out the malt extract for BRF and cut the charcoal in half, since these would already be mostly opaque.
I had trouble with transfers getting stuck in the cocktail straws mentioned earlier in the thread. So I found some with a larger diameter (0.28", rather than 0.10"), closer to the punch size recommended in the OP. I've done several transfers and have only had it stick once, and none at all since I started cleaning them out with the brush prior to flaming before each session.
I'll post a pic or two, once they've cooled.
Update:

They came out looking great. Some of the black ones aren't completely opaque when backlit, but are solid black otherwise:

Here are some LI trump cock jars showing leap off after a day using black agar. You can see the small pulverized black specs.

I've noticed several people post pictures of multiple transfers on a single plate, but I've never seen it specifically mentioned in a tek. Do those plates serve some special purpose?

Usually just early xfers so instead of waisting 6 plates lets say you’re only waisting 2 or three that you’re eventually going to transfer from again. I do it a lot on t1 and t2 plates then start going one per plate after a xfer or two.

My only qualm with the black plates is the mini heart attacks when you spot something black in your grain jar

I saw the black agar here and I love it. How do you do it? I tried using some charcoal (from activated charcoal capsules) but it didn't dissolve.

Pitriot,
You need this.

Use 1 gram of charcoal per 100ml of agar.
Blend thoroughly.

I like pasty plates for easy tiger drop for LI! Work better than anything. At the same time, i like clear visibility which can be a little tough on those glad rounds. But im a DIY kinda guy and love that pasty came up with something with what he had to work with. Not rehashing others things, but looking at the puzzle and solving it in a different path.

I like pastys for swab dunks, gives you a little more head room and moisture for stubborn spores.
