Thanks for the info.
I have had my share of contaminated agar cultures, and it has made me look for other ways to clone mushrooms, but maybe agar is the way to go anyway.

It makes me feel stupid, why didn't I think of it?
Experiment #1 begining in 5 min.
1 jar peroxidated agar will be left out. Open! Only a paper towel (sterilized with the jar) will cover it, to prevent germinated colonies from landing.
I wonder how long it will take the peroxide to break down? Anybody wanna guess?
Oh yeah, I'll do one non peroxide, just to laugh at it.

Hello,
I was wondering, does the 20 to 1 ratio of water to peroxide refer to the 3% peroxide, or does it mean 20 parts water to 1 part pure peroxide, I'm guessing that it's the 3% as the other would be like 5%, right and too strong.

Yep, 20/1 water/3%H2O2. BTW, that peroxide jar of agar I left unsealed never contamed. Not at all. Actually, it is now dry and shrively, but it never grew the nasties. see, this shit works.

if one were to use canning jars, which lid should he use?
also- can the plastic lids be autoclaved?

I recomend wide-mouth 1/2 pints for jars, stock lids are fine, plastic ones can be autoclaved (pressure cooked). Got over 8 strains/species growing fine on this stuff right now.
