Offworlds LAGM 2022 Grow Log

Varieties
Fiji, Burma, AA+

Process
Syringe > Agar > Millet > CV sub

Dec 31

For the past few months I've been using lme/yeast but I'm curious how side by side comparisons look with the standard 2% lme, so Ill run both in parallel. I really need to find a recipe and stick to it. Also, I haven't run from spores recently so curious which will be better suited for this task. I recall some folks recommending softer agar for germ plates, so went a bit lighter on agar.

  • 400ml water, 6.4g agar, 6.4g light malt extract, 0.6g nutritional yeast, 5 drops of blue food coloring - poured 20 plates
  • 400ml water, 6.4g agar, 8g light malt extract, 4 drops of green food coloring - poured 22 plates (not very even on my pours apparently)

Poured (42) 90mm petri dishes in a SAB and let sit overnight.

Jan 01

I've been using a loop to grab a drop from the syringe to spread spores onto agar but wanted to give swabs a try this time as well.

Each variety was inoculated on 4 plates: 2 agar w/yeast (blue), 2 w/o yeast (green).

Jan 03

I have germination on 2 AA+ plates! One from each recipe of agar.

I also have a fairly nice looking bacterial contam on one of the Burma plates, milky white disk that's tinted green in the center (maybe picking up food coloring from the agar?). Bad pic but the best I could get:

This actually showed on Jan 2, right in the middle of the plate. Clearly my sterile technique with swabs needs some work.

Jan 05

No (myc) growth yet on the Fiji or Burma plates, getting a bit impatient so I inoculated 3 more for each.

2 plates of AA+ have multiple growths, clear, < 5mm.

Evening update:
The other 2 AA+ plates, one of the Fiji and one of the Burmas are showing signs of germination... I think. We'll see tomorrow if Im just making shit up.

Jan 08

Jan 01 inoculations:
  • Fiji - 4/4 plates have germinated: colony on one turning into a nice white patch on the plate, the other 3 are still clear looking (one has with contam)
  • AA+ - 4/4 plates germinated: one with multiple white patches, plates still have clear growth
  • Burma - 0/4 plates germinated: 1 plate contam'd

Jan 05 inoculations:
  • Fiji - 0/3 plates have germinated
  • Burma - 1/3 plates germinated

Jan 11

Spent an evening browsing shroomery and kept running across posts for Pans, so I figured Id give them a go since I have a few syringes sitting in a bin that Ive never tried. The enthusiasm and encouragement here sure makes it look doable . Still not sure how Ill fruit them yet but figure I have time to educate myself here before I get that far.

Adding to my list (which may be horrific failures):
  • Pan Cyan - Jamaica
  • Pan Cambodginiensis

Inoculated 3 plates of each.

Jan 12

TODO: drop some pics into this update

AA+
Today I did T1 transfers from 3 of the AA+ plates. The germ plates  look a bit sketchy, the growth looks very powdery/chalky, not what Im used to seeing for other varieties, I might be dealing with a dirty syringe since none of my other varieties exhibit this appearance. I took 2 transfers from each donor and dropped these onto individual plates to see what we get (6 new plates total).

Fiji
T1 transfers from 2 germ plates. From each donor plate I took 4 transfers to 2 plates (doubled up 2 transfers on a single plate since the culture looks clean-ish, maybe this is a mistake this early in the process?).

Burma
2 plates germinated, one is just starting to show white growth (the other has the clear growth). Might be able to do T1 transfers this weekend.

Agar
I switched up the agar recipes for the transfer plates:
  • 2% agar, 1.6% LME, 0.1% yeast - more agar than the germ plates, less yeast (cultures are notably more fuzzy that those on just LME)
  • 2% agar, 2% LME - more agar than germ plates, more LME as well (growth is pretty thin compared to plates w/yeast)

Jan 17

AA+
T1 growth is slow compared to the other varieties, nothing else to report.

Fiji
Snagged some nice areas from 2 T1 plates (now about a quarter size) into 4 new T2 plates. Also made a few T1 plates from one of the Jan 05 germ plates.

Burma
Incoulated 2 T1s from the only plate that germinated, luckily this one has a pretty good looking culture so far.

Pans
Possible germination on a Cambo and Jamaica plate, will confirm on next update.

Chitwan
I had a decent flush of Chitwan so I grabbed some spores (prints finished yesterday) and decided to throw these into the mix for LAGM. Inoculated 10 plates from 5 fruits.

Count me in! Got a shiny new flowhood and lots of new varieties. Gonna be growing P. Cubensis Albino Normak.

Edit: Misread rules.

January 1st:
Didn't have any plates to use so I poured some today. Letting them sit in front of the hood to dissipate the condensation.

January 1st Update 2:
Put the spores to agar today. Fingers crossed.

January 4th:
We have germination!

No photos yet as the myc is very thin atm. Stay tuned!

January 16th:
One of my T1 plates, looking good. Will take to T2 then to LC.

March 13th:
Well uh, I forgot to update this. But anyways, spawned normak to bulk on Feb. 28 with 1qt of spawn. Almost fully colonized.

Nef's LAGM2022 Journal
:howyoudoing::epicfacepalm::fuck:

This may be a shit show

December 31st:
I'll start with Hawaii, GT, and an old Escondido syringe that I had some trouble germing before, about a year ago. See if I have more luck with it now

I've also got some plates ready to go, mine are 10g agar, 8g malt extract, 1g yeast

Looking forward to getting this started up tomorrow

January 1st:
Spores to agar, my SAB setup, and the fruiting closet. it's a newish setup, before I was putting my tubs on a shelf in an open room, so I hope this doesn't cause a problem for FAE at some point. It lives with the door open anyway so I figure it is not much different than a  shelf in the corner of a room. I have been fruiting stuff in there a couple weeks, it seems to work

The escondido syringe is from a purchase right around the time I joined the site, so it is three years old or so. A noc to three plates a year ago produced nothing after two months, blank plates. We will see

January 5th
Visible germination to the naked eye on all PESH and GT plates, still nothing on escondido so far... I have replacements set, in case we see nothing germ in another week I will noc some new ones with another syringe of a different variety. In the meantime I have been working on woodlover spawn for spring, woodlover agar work, cube maintenance agar work and my cube fruiting rotation proceeds as normal  gonna be a fucking great year fellas
:myfaceismelting:

January 9th:
Unfortunately all germ on the PESH are completely bacterial mess... Figure it's the syringe, there's just nothing but bacteria. I hope my vendor isn't gonna start fucking up, I've literally never had one of their syringes perform this poorly, must've had at least fifteen off them by now

There is one tiny spot of germed myc on one of the plates that is growing half of it's radial out of the perimeter of bacteria, maybe turn this into a cleanup exercise, but the other plate is for sure for the bin

The GT has germed what looks to be cleanly so far and there might even be a tiny spot showing up on an escondido plate, they have a touch of condensation and it's hard to tell so far. Things are moving very slowly, it has been cold here

January 10th:
a pic of the GT now that there is something visible on camera. My germ plates always look indiscernible from mold at this stage. Will begin transferring something soon I reckon, I have learned over time to not obsess and to just trust it and transfer away, and things look better in a short time usually

Some other stuff I have been working on, cyan and azure plates, a BHT I have been trying to shape up better than the clone I am currently running, and a tub of B+ from a clone I just test ran for the first time

sub was a touch drier than usual on that clone, unfortunately I think it has little to do with her short stature and that is more genetic. I dunno how that happens, the one I cloned was a big badboy one I nicknamed LDC for large dick cluster. Seems I captured some of the dickishness and a lot of the cluster but none of the large came along for the ride  until next time fellas, sorry my plate photos suck, damnit, taking nice plate shots is hard af

January 12th:
Took some transfers from a hawaii plate and both GT plates, still nothing actionable on the escondido. So we are on T1 finally, have to see how it shakes out with that hawaii, not sure a clean transfer is gonna happen. I also pulled an old slant out of the fridge, EQ, has done very well for me before, made a few plates. Hope the slanted material is gonna wake without issue. We'll see. Few pics because honestly I will save the fuckery for when there are nice plate shots to take, difficult as they are to photograph well. How the hell is that done right anyway?

Hope everyone is doing the good lord's work

January 15th:
Transfers from the other day are fuzzing up nicely and coming along. I should perhaps mention at this point that my cult room averages about 62-65 F and can go under 60 as a low sometimes, so my things may be a little slow eh. In other good news, my presto arrived and I ran a round of rye jars last night. Fuck man, shoulda got one the day I started culting, what an improvement. Special thanks to Regis for sending me in the right direction with a link. Those jars will be getting cyan, azure, and BHT T10 probably, gotta have a look through the plates. Anyway here is some Maz third flush to wet your eyes with while we wait fellas

January 25th:
Hoping to transfer some T2 tomorrow, but honestly I am not in love with anything that is there currently. I am also gonna backtrack to the MS and make a couple more T1 series and hope for a better stroke of the scalpel. Pics of those when it's worth it I guess...

Otherwise I have been staying pretty busy, unfortunately just not with the LAGM stuff

Until next time :mushroom2:

February 5th:
Did some transfers, more T1 and some T2, some of this stuff definitely has bad guy meshed in, but I'm gonna persist with cleaning up rather than start again

Not much else to show off really, frustrating to take this long but I have had to let some plates grow out a bit to get a proper look at things and hope that a promising sector emerges from the melee of meh/interwoven contamination. I'm not a religious man but there was a little praying if I am honest

Almost forgot, those escondido plates still show nothing, no contam, no germ either. Like last time. Guess syringe is simply expired. May do a little pf puck or two and splooge a whole lot of the syringe on them and see if anything comes to life. Gotta be their best chance. For science then

In an effort to keep this journal clean I am gonna try and proceed to only add pics and explanation of the LAGM stuff. If you wanna see what we are doing generally then check out my journal or gallery pages

nice one culters

February 16th:
Hi again guys... Made more transfers today, and some things are beginning to at least shape up into something workable. Best luck I had so far was rubbing up gently against some aerial myc and then stroking that onto another plate, and I transferred that onwards again today, as well as working from a couple other alright looking donors. No pics this time but just to let you guys know I am still moving ahead, albeit slow af

February 22nd:
On the 20th I transferred a GT plate pin from the MS plate, so far my best looking chance for any of that GT to work out, not sure if I managed to fuck something up with that last sleeve I poured, it just seems I can't get a good plate for love nor money. Probably I will do another round of pouring tomorrow, whilst paying extra attention to the finer points and going extra long with sterilization. Also will continue to work on the PESH obviously, it looks like it may come together eventually, plates are improving

March 10th:
Yesterday I did yet more plate work on the hopes that I will finally have something worth sending. I have some others from the previous series I plated that may be good enough, still deciding on those, they were simple MEA and they look so weak compared to plates with yeast in them, but they also look clean I think so may get sent...

Will keep you guys posted, sorry this is so slow, it's obviously not the only thing I am working on

March 22nd:
Finally got something sent to grain today, was a PESH T3 plate, fairly whispy in it's nature, but was plain MEA,  so may have been the recipe contributing a little to the weaker growth. But it looked clean and consistent and I have had some good results from plates some may think of as looking 'weak' or whatever. Pics as colonization happens

Also still transferring things and messing with them trying to get it all into shape for being sent, a big guy showed up in a plate so was cloned also. Several plate pin clones and standard transfers being worked up now, so we are gonna get there one way or the other and hopefully find something good

Till then

April 15th:
So finally got some of the PESH to sub, went 2 liters spawn to a brick, stretched it a little for round numbers and easy prep. I made 3 liters of spawn but one jar was kaput with the white whispy mold that smells like dirty socks. We will have to see... I have been having a really shit run of tubs recently, a lot of contam. Hopefully this won't become part of that losing streak

Pretty much all of my GT I am giving up on, it's all fucked. Could just never get it right, was transfering three seperate pin clones with many transfers of each and it just never stops looking like slow moving thick rubbish. Think my MS plates were just knackered

Might swipe something new today, still undecided, I was gonna focus on woodlovers and ease up on cubes for a while, but I have a McKennaii print...

Let's see

May 14th:
Finally got some mushrooms grown from that PESH work, this was the T3 but I have some nice looking T5 and T6 already that will be sent soon... Was 650g coir to 3 liters spawn. We hope for a good second flush and that will be potency tested fresh, I didn't have the inclination today, I have a lot of work on over the next little while, and small doses are not really my thing, so I'll wait a bit

Cloned that single mushroom from the large cluster in the corner with the spores, that was earlier and larger than the other genetics in the tub, which had very slim stipes and that very small clustering behaviour which makes harvesting a pain, so I avoided cloning that trait hopefully

Just glad to be back successfully culting to be honest, I just broke the worst losing streak I have had so far in the hobby, was six tubs in a row that failed. Only difference was coco brand. I had expected this tub to be the seventh fail in a row but somehow this made it through a flush at least. Got hold of my usual brand of coco again so hopefully we are good to go down the line

And yes I did in fact swipe that McKennaii on three plates and while I was there I hit up three more plates with a few drops from an old Koh Samui syringe. Because mushrooms :borat:

May 22nd:
So the second flush came in but there was a small spot of green in the center. I feel she can do better and a clone was taken from the first flush and will be re-run. I also have the B series PESH plates I have been working up, and they look very nice and will be sent to a few liters grain today as a test, along with some other things I have had floating around

So that brings the total from the 3 liters of spawn to 1191g wet (884+227+80 in the plastic dish for my dinner tonight), nothing spectacular but if the potency is great then that could work out to be something decent. Hopefully the clone may be more productive

And a Koh Samui plate that germed alright and was transferred from yesterday

Unfortunately can't say the same for the McKennaii, no germ on all three. Reswiped another two just plain grain water agar. I guess the activated charcoal interferes with spore germ perhaps unless water is added. Syringes work on it but swiping dry spores with a loupe does not it seems

EDIT: after doing a little research I realise I am spreading nonsense and carbon should be no problem for spores whatsoever, some saying it even aids in germ of old spores... May try that elusive Escondido yet again on the carbon agar

Back soon folks... good times

May 31st:
Coming soon to a jar near me...

August 20th:
Geez fellas, between the heatwave and a round of lid failures due to me not replacing them in a timely fashion, I had a lot of work turn to shit, and then thought better of mid summer culting altogether. Will be picking up the scalpel again by the end of the month and getting back to work. Will update as things come along. Good times all

November 13th:
Haha shit got away from me but I have got some of that PESH from July back onto a new plate, looks ok, I'm gonna run it for prints and practice. Cooked some barley today, noc tomorrow

Oh man, it's goin off now! Rock an Roll!

I really dig seeing peeps work spaces, I'll show mine if you show me yours!

Oh, the books on top are to dampen vibration from bumping the SAB.
Sorry I don't recall who gave that tip.

Jk, when you guys are putting spores to agar, how many plates do you inoculate?

Well I did six plates, playing the numbers game.
So try that. Ok that was the positive part and now...

But NONE of the plates have germinated anything, not even contam.
They are so pristine I'm gonna put transfers from other projects.

So no pictures, nothing to see here, not into BSing, move along...

Josex sorry about yer covid...no BS!

Mastershake's LAGM 2022
:mushroomtwirl:  :mushroomtwirl:  :mushroomtwirl:

Thanks for hosting bigfoot

P cubensis.

Variety. My own. Generation 1 from my last grow of wild spores. (do I get to name it since it's wild lol?!?)  If I do get to name it, I'll call it AsianBigfoot in tribute to the host of LAGM 2.022.

RECIPE:

Agar used is Bod's old recipe:
10g BRF, 500ml water, 10g agar. Mixed in a stir plate in media bottle then PC'd at 90kpa for 20 minutes.  Ketchup kups all the way.

Spores were originally taken from the wild, grown out for 1 generation (F1?). I now have the first print taken, and will be growing that out to select for the biggest fruit.

Potency of the wild first grow was good all around. Size of the mushrooms was a bit small, but that might have been due to contamination. I did manage to get a few decent size fruits and 3 flushes out of the tub so will see what the spores provide me.  :mushroomgrow:

22.1.1  LETS GOOOOO

So, according to rules, put my spores to Agar.

Using a SAB with plexiglass front. Agar recipe already listed.

1st print (on foil) was scraped with an inoculation loop in a zig zag pattern. 2 agar dishes for this

2nd one was a spore swab I had made when I accidentally picked a fruit too early, and it would not drop a print, so I swabbed it.

These are all from the same round of wild prints that I grew out, some on BRF and some on corn.

Swabs and prints used:

Swabbed agar:

Best of hopes for LAGM 2020

Why only 4 cups to start? I like to live dangerously. Trying to keep the volume of agar down as it kind of got out of control recently.

Now we play the waiting game
:justcantwait:

22.1.5  WE HAVE GERMINATION! I hope

1 out of 4 plates at this point have now germinated for sure. This seems to be the inoculation loop method one that has taken off on one of the larger chunks that stuck to the agar.

Funny thing being i was about to swab more plates as I was panicking that I probably fuck'd up the first 4.

22.1.6

ALLLLLLLLLLRIGHTY THEN  we are fully germinated. The spore prints I made look to be fairly clean as well. So far germination on 4/4 plates, and no signs of contam.

The plates that I streaked with a inoculation loop seem to have taken off first, but the spore swab was right on the hind legs. No difference really

These are the 4 plates all growing out the 1000's of potential shroomies. Although I doubt any of these will net me the 50g single mushroom yet.

I was supposed to do this yesterday, but done now. I Just did a single transfer out per plate, so now have 2 of each type.  I need to make up another batch of Agar or use the remaining PDA that I dislike.

Honestly, at this point I could just toss the original spore swab plates onto some BRF pucks, and grow them out that way, but I will instead be cleaning them up a bit before putting them to grain.  I kind of want a shoebox. I feel that is more in line with the spirit of LAGM. Either way, it IS in the spirit of getting more mushrooms so......... kind of a clear choice here boys.

My plan now is to let these 4 G1 trasnfers grow out, if they are contamination free then throw them onto some grains.  Will post recipe for grains once I make them.

22.1.10

Day 10 of LAGM and things are going smoothly. So Far

Below are the original swabbed plates and their first G1 transfers from before.  The original plates all look quite clean, so I may go back to them in order to find one or two of the most rhizomorphic growth patterns. Normally I was just sending all my MSS to grain/BRF as soon as I got any clean growth, to keep genetic diversity, but this could be a fun experiment.

Kind of shocked at the clealiness of the growth. This is my first time working with a spore print that was not harvested and handled by other people in the wild. These were all straight from my own grows. Even though a lot of these prints were not done properly. They seem quite clean.

Happy that I have found some legitimate pre sterilized swabs as well. Before I was getting "sterilized" swabs that had contamination in the wood.

Will be prepping some Corn and coffee grains soon in my modified shitty PC. Will be dropping pics of the process as well.

22.1.12

Back in the SAB and using up the very last of my BRF agar mix. Need to fire up the PC and make some more. The blue plate is PDA made with mashed potato powder. I dislike this as I *think* the salt causes slower growth than BRF agar.

This is the only plate out of the 4 G1 plates that I will be taking a transfer from because this one showed the best rhizomorphic growth. The others I'll just send straight to grain once they have the agar fully colonized.

Transfers taken from about the 12 and 1 o clock position

The big happy family and all his generations. It's akin to a family photo. Dark photos I know. need an LED light inside the SAB.

22.1.18

Okay it's been a hot minute since my last update. I have been moving things forward in the lab, so here is the catchup.

I got some contamination on 2 of my grain jars (unrelated to LAGM) so I now am very worried that I have made some mistake in my PC cycle.  We will see.

I also had 3 PF cakes contaminate with some mean green after incubating for 1.5 months. Those were on a very dirty syringe so not too devastating.

On to the LAGM update:

I made some grain!

Recipe:  1kg corn, 2Tbsp corn syrup, 20g fresh ground coffee, 2tbsp white vinigar

Put the corn, corn syrup, coffee, and vinigar in your pressure cooker. Bring to a boil and let it vent for 3 minutes. After this, bring it up to temperature, and start a timer for 30 minutes.

Take it out and let it dry till it passes the towel test.

In jars and PC'd again for 2 hours.

Side note:

So a good tip I got was to put some micropore tape on your PC so you can use an infared gun to check the temps.  My PC does not have a pressure gauge, so this is the only way to find out if I am reaching the correct temps.

Also the PC I have was made for only 70Kpa, I've added weight to get it up to the correct pressure/temp.  I find using RTV high temp silicone to stick on coins near the base was the best way to add weight.

Jars knocked up.

More pics of the happy familly.  This was done on the 16th.

Growth has been a bit slow

22.1.21

Chooching along here

Jars are looking clean. Been having some issues with my last batch of grain going........ well to shit with some very light cobweb. So far these look okay and I'll assume it was a one off fuckup.

I still have an isolation of some of the more rhizomorphic growth that I'm working on. I have enough agar to drown in at the moment, so why not?

Tuesday, January 25, 2022

Are you FUCKING SERIOUS????

oh yea BIG HAPPY FUCKING FAMILLY.

Breath :beatingtodeath: breath

So. this is now 2 batches of corn with some pretty big ass issues. Let's play the game of "what did I fuck up?" Shall we?

Something has changed in just the last 2 batches. Not all of the above jars are from LAGM. 1 of them (the most colonized one) was from a clone that I had started a while ago.  From this, I deduce that it is not my agar game (even though I only did one transfer after initial spore germination for my LAGM grow).

Agar = likely clean

Grains. well I did switch my brand of corn to a cheaper one. this could be the issue. I have a round of my old corn sterilizing as I type.

Pressure cooker. I think my temps are okay, but I had JUST found out that I was achieving 115c/ 15psi/ 100kpa on my shitty pressure cooker. When I discovered this, I started to just run a 2hr cycle instead of the 2.5 I was running before. I will go back to the 2.5hr cycle for my grains.

Pressure cooking. I had gotten sloppy. As I was placing the jars in my PC I was not clearing the bubble on the bottom of the jars. possibly reducing the internal pressure. (although I doubt this as I do not check pressure. I check sterilization temperature of my PC, and that runs at 115.

SAB work. I had gotten a bit sloppy due to a lack of issues with contamination. I remember I did not wipe down the inside walls of my sab the last time, just the grate and the bottom. This could have caused the issue as well.

Jars.  I was re using the same micropore tape, and on further inspection, I noticed that it was a bit thin. Contaminates could have entered through the tape on the initial shake of the jars.

Overall plenty of possible mistakes.  I still have 2/4 jars colonizing just fine,  I have the backups of each of the jars still on their initial agar wedges.

The biggest loss was the jar that contaminated had some VERY promising rhizomorphic growth (when it was on agar). I am working on further isolation of it on agar though, so I will have a further isolated one that I can put to grain in the near future.

We move on and we learn. This hobby likes to throw some interesting curve balls, and likes to keep us honest about our sterile game.

Monday, January 31, 2022

WHAT? IT'S BEEN A MONTH

sigh. so I have less than an amazing update. I have determined that the grain sterilization was likely the issue. That combined with an inferior quality grain.

I have lost the last of my LAGM grain jars. Back to my agar.........

This is the sad last jar well past infection. it's....... just straight up nasty.  All in the compost bin now. If I was desperate for prints. I could have scooped and scraped out some of the other jars to get a flush. But I'm not so I won't. At this point I'm just doing this as a hobby so why produce a sub optimal product for your hobby. RESTART BUTTON

:nogodno:  MOVING ON  :fuckit:

Thursday, February 10, 2022

Okay quick update. I am working on more isolations from the agar. no big beautiful ropey growth yet, so no pics.

I have taken the backup agar chunks and put them to grain, Slow going but it's looking like the 2.5hr sterilization fixed my previous issue. Honestly it's good I got delayed because I have 5 shoeboxes all popping at the moment and am a bit overwhelmed. I don't even have enough tubs to "dub tub" it and so my poor baby's are getting bent over.

Long term update. I had to bosh the whole setup due to reasons. Mabye LAGM next year.

LAGM 2.022 feat Gandalf ttching8475 edition

12/24/21

Swabs received from the fahtster. :rainingjoints: :leocheers: :fuckyeah:

12/31/21
With company in town until the middle of next week, I can’t start on 1/1.

Growing Gandalf though, and it’s supposed to be super slow, so I probably wasn’t going to win a race to fruits anyway.

Still debating on my approach to this one. So many good ways to go.

:holyshitbubbles:

1/1/22

Current state of the work space  We’ve been working on the house.

Let’s take a hike while we’re on standby on this one.

1/6/22
Getting ready to go

I’m going to be borrowing from Josex & fahster in my grow and for my initial inoculation attempt tonight I’m going to use a swab with sterile water to rgs & brf pucks, and the swab tip to agar.

:pantytail:

1/7/22

Despite the packing efforts of the donor, my swabs came broken and I just have the tips to work with.

First try at inoculation was messy.

Hopefully it was messy enough to work. Now we wait.

1/12/22

So far, my first attempt with my Gandalf swabs hasn’t even germinated a contam yet.

:standingby:

Fortunately I have some other projects that were already on the move to make the wait for wizard chodes a little easier.

No BS WBS

For grass seed, I soak for 18-24 in water with a cup of leftover brewed coffee. Strain well and PC for 90 minutes at 15 psi. I don’t think it’s a great grain for bulk, but it’s a favorite of mine for smaller applications.

1/14/22

We have germination on the swab tip. No sign of bacteria or other contams yet.

:creepylurker:

1/22/22

Today, my attempt at Gandalf was joined by a few plates I swiped with a PE swab that arrived in the mail this week.

:halfcocked:

So far only the swab tip on agar has germinated for this run at Gandalf, but it looks like it’s all I will need. I’m going to give it another day or two and then take my T1’s.

1/24/22

It’s been pretty cold here, so things are moving slowly, but growth in my Gandalf swab plate was looking pretty good so today I went in for T1.

Feeling pretty good about the session and what we’re going to see in T1.

:cujo:

1/31/22

The fastest of my Gandalf T1’s had a satellite germinate so it got it’s own SAB session to send it to T2 tonight.

My PE swab has germinated. :derfase:

2/4/22

My Gandalf T1’s are all looking pretty good and it’s now time for their paths to split.

The bottom two are going to get one more day. The culture in the middle is slightly less organized than the others and will go to a few BRF pucks to see if we can get some nice pins to take for clone culture candidates. The one on the bottom I’m going to make into a Super EZ LC for a try at a T1 ms grow. It’s been on my list of teks to try out and I like the way the culture looks but the agar surface is uneven  Not the end of the world but I don’t love taking wedges from plates like that, so this will hopefully be a fun way to expand that one instead.

The culture on top is fast and has some nice looking sectors.

It’s going to move on some T2’s for further expansion. The PE swab is also ready for T1 with a satellite showing on the far side of the plate.

2/9/22

I managed to set one of my T2’s on it’s end the other day and now it’s looking like the monolith from 2001:ASO. :wizard:

Germ plate myc reaching across the gap.

This Gandalf culture seems like it’s going to be an aggressive colonizer.

The T1 SEZ LC dish after the sterile water went in on Sunday and today. I think I’m going to make a couple more of these out of some of the T2 plates.

:tellmeastory:

2/11/22

Couple pics of the front runner T2 Gandalf cultures. The first had a satellite showing  so I sent it to a few T3’s.

This one looks like a wizard hat. :vibin:

I sent it to a second SEZ LC for a T2 ms grow.

2/14/22

No pics, but I poured my T1 EZ LC culture to a couple pints of no prep wbs tonight for my first step to grains for this project. Excited to see how they recover.

The best of the T1 PE cultures:

I want to send it now, but I think I will wait and expand it to T2 before it goes to grain.

:cujo:

2/19/22

Some pics of the wizard hat LC’s progress so far. I will probably send it to grain tomorrow.

Took one PE culture on to T2 and another to EZ LC.

And some more brf pucks are getting inoculated today for clone hunting.

2/26/22

Photo dump incoming. I have been super busy, but have not been slacking on my cult.

First up, the jars from my T1 EZ LC. After the pour, I let the LC recover for a few days, then gave the jars a gentle shake/roll to redistribute the moisture and this is the how recovery was looking like other night. They have been shaken again since.

Up next, last pic of the T2 ‘Wizard Hat’ LC from the night before it went to grain.

That T2 culture came from the fastest of the T1 cultures and the LC was ready for grain by the time this T2 culture, from other T1 which got advanced, grew out.

Both got sent to grain on the same day this week, setting up a head to head between the EZ LC innoc and A2G.

I normally drop smaller wedges, but for LAGM, I went big. :derfase:

To keep things fair, both the LC jars and the A2G jars got the gentle shake/roll to redistribute moisture and imbed the culture after innoc. Not much to photograph right now, but a few days in, everything is recovering well.

Also coming from the second line of T2’s, I started an EZ LC with the ‘Monolith’ culture.

This one is going to be fun to watch grow up around the wedge.

:creepylurker:

Last up for GD, the first T3 cultures. I had a hard time deciding what to do with these and ended up taking one to T4 and the others I made into EZ LC’s. The proof will be in the fruits I guess but all the Gandalf cultures have looked amazing and I like how using Pasty’s LC tek is allowing me to stagger the workload and expand them further within a single container.

Finally, for my PE attempt, the T2’s are showing a lot of diversity and maybe want some more work but the T1 EZ LC is looking pretty hot.

:christinanurse:

3/29/22

It’s been a while since I updated the log. I’ve been busy but things are moving. Current state of the projects:

My ms T1 Gandalf culture is in the Faht block. Here’s the grain spawn nearing full colonization. GDF seems to be fast on agar, average on grain and then slow AF once it gets spawned.

The T2 wedge jars prior to the first shake, after which one went down with a contam, and a couple of the T2 LC jars from their recovery from the pour & roll.

The grain jars from the T2 cultures are all currently recovering from the 100% colonization shake now and due to get spawned in the coming days.

I have a few different rounds of T3 LC spawn coming up. Not going to post all the culture/grain pics, but here’s the ‘monolith’ culture’s EZ LC growing out.

For the PE, here’s the LC prior to innoc:

And the spawn part way through:

Those are now recovering from the 100% shake and due to get spawned soon.

I’ve been too busy to do much agar work on the other PE cultures the past few weeks, but it’s paid off with some plate pins popping up for cloning.

:thisisgonnabegood:

4/3/22

Photo dump incoming. Lot’s happening today.

For this update the PE is coming first.

I took these two PE agar pins as clones. They didn’t come willingly. :shockingsurprise:
But they came

It was spawning day for the PE jars.

Unmodified bucket of cock.

:wellhello:

Gandalf got spawned today too. My T1 ms fahtlock attempt went green on me, so I didn’t go for a wizard bucket with my T2 cultures’ jars. :/

T3 LC jar preview

:sexymeow:

7/6/22

First update in a while. Got too busy and my first rounds of spawn went green, but I am still working. I have some ms Gandalf mutants coming in, and a PE clone culture on agar that I am excited about, from one of the PF pucks I made early on, but for pics, here’s the Gandalf fruit I just cloned the other day (also from a PF puck)

It only took 4 1/2 months to grow, lol, but that’s pheno I have been hoping to see show up somewhere in the Gandalf ms for cloning.

7/31/22

Last update for my log for a while. Some of my ms Gandalf finally came through in July:

Helluva wait, but these things are powerful. Good luck getting back from middle earth after a cup of wizard tea.

:freakout:

Looking forward to seeing how the clones do.

Scrimshaw’s 2022 LAGM

Introduction

  :dancingshroom:  :dancingshroom:  :dancingshroom:

Actives

Species: P. Cubensis
Varieties: PF Classic, AA+

Gourmet/Medicinal

Species: (Lion’s Mane) Hericium erinaceus, (Reishi) Ganoderma lingzhi

Goals: My goal is to have a fun time growing with members of this awesome community and to learn new techniques and procedures that will help me in future grows. I hardly ever G2G or do full size monos, so I will be trying those techniques in these grows.

Background: First time grows of PF Classic and AA+ for me. PF Classic print sourced from member QM33. AA+ from vendor syringe. Lion’s Mane and Reishi are from vendor liquid cultures in syringes.

Environment: Temperature will be approximately 67 degrees F. 6500k LED light will be provided on a 12/12 schedule. Relative humidity in my grow room is approximately 30%.

Active Log

  • 1/1/2022:

    Happy New Year!

2 PF Classic and 2 AA+ germ plates created shortly after midnight.

  • 1/8/2022:

Germination confirmed on at least two of the plates. Maybe on a third. My lower temps make germination very slow, but at least one of each means I’ll have something to transfer soon.

  • 1/11/2022:

I will be transferring from these two plates in the next couple of days. AA+ is growing under and up through the agar surface giving it an odd appearance, but it’s definitely myc. Hopefully the transfers make it look a little more normal. PF Classic didn’t germinate as quickly, but should even out at transfer.

  • 1/13/2022:

2 T1 plates of each variety have been made. I saved the germination plates just in case.

  • 1/23/2022:

Checked on my T1s for the first time in 10 days. The AA+ plates are very fluffy and growing up close to the petri lid. They’re also noticeably whiter than the PF Classic. I’ve read this is often the case for AA+. The PF Classic is pretty standard looking. Going to let these keep going to see if any sectors form. I’ll create T2s either way before the end of the week. Slow and steady is the name of the game.

  • 1/25/2022:

Made my T2 plates yesterday. No real sectors to speak of, but growth looks pretty clean so far. The AA+ myc was pretty thick. Much different than other cube varieties I’ve grown. Closer in appearance to tamp myc. My plan is to keep transferring until it flattens out.

  • 2/4/2022:

Fighting some type of bacterial contamination with the AA+. Metabolites have shown on each plate from germination to T2. I’m going to keep transferring away but I hope the bacteria is too intertwined with the myc. PF Classic T2 looks great though. Will likely make T3s before the end of the weekend. At this rate, the PF Classic will go to grain before the AA+ since It’ll need some more cleanup.

  • 2/18/2022:

Did my T4s for PF Classic and AA+. I switched up the agar recipe and it seemed to flatten the AA+ out. If these transfers are clean, they’ll go to grain.

    Gourmet/Medicinal Log

  • 1/25/2022:

Lion’s mane and Reishi LC was used to inoculate one quart jar of no-prep millet each. I probably used about 1mL per jar. I normally put LC to agar first, but since I don’t really have a backup plan if these are dirty, I figured I’d go straight to grain. I will G2G the jars if they are clean.

  • 1/31/2022:

Made another 4 quarts today. 2 lions mane and 2 Reishi. I used more LC this time. Hoping this will get them moving a little quicker than my other ones.

  • 2/18/2022:

Reishi and lions mane are ready to go. The lions pane is pinning in the jar. I’ll put these to bags tonight or tomorrow.

  • 2/20/2022:

2 bags of lions mane and 2 bags of Reishi made. 1qt of spawn to 6 cups of hydrated fuel pellet sawdust in each bag.

Also doing one mini mono of Reishi. Same ratios as above.

    KREG'S
    :shineon::bananahorsey: :bananahorsey::shineon:

1/1 alright alright. I got nervous and pulled out an old print from a buddy labeled "B+ : Big tit", other three dishes are the APE swab. Hope the last minute addition is ok

1/4 My one B+ spore dish is showing a lil action, my 3 APE dishes still nada. I suppose I made a good move pulling that print out.
1/6 Got some action on swab dish No2 although it's worth noting it's not where I swabbed it iirc! Soo I might have a contam, maybe, maybe not. My B+ dish is going to be ready to transfer very soon. I've had a cold all week and have been moving a little slow, but very soon I will be taking the B+ MS dish to T1. I'm nasty and I don't mind bacteria so I probably won't be doing a ton of different transfers and strains, one and done and then I'll save a master grain jar once I have it. I like grain jars better than agar dishes anyhow, as far as long term storage is concerned.
1/6 1am after curing my cold with robo and sunny d mixed together + jumping jacks(yes seriously, i am ready beat up superman right now) Feeling a lot better, so update time. Now both my APE swab dishes are showing action! My B+ dish looks a little tomentose, Im not worried B) Surprisingly the swab head dish is last with no action yet!

1/8 My agar kept doing flips in the pc, wanted to do transfers yesterday but had to do another run. Just did those transfers this evening. Never tried this before but I was nervous about the APE myce, it looks a little tomentose, I cut it like a big X O and then put all four cuts to the corners of a new dish.... I cant really explain why I did that Im a little stoned drunk tripping right now whoops
    >but you should never SAB while fucked up!
yeah I know. Whats the award for first triggodermias?

still no action from swabhead dish. Big tit M dish looked great so I just did a regurlar single piece transfer with it, will probably go straight to grains with tit T1. Tit MS dish is in fridge now, might try something experimental with it later.

1/12 Life is coming at me fast today. Lot's of things going on. The swab head dish has finally taken off. Oddly enough, it first showed action at the handle side not the swab side leading me to believe it was contaminated. My T1 dishes are showing growth, although as I was worried about my 4X-cut ape dishes they are also taking off.

Thinking about spawning swab head dish as a multi-spore thing, maybe a little top fruiting deal. The APE mycelium is tomentose in appearance. One dish moving faster than the other, it's not like a tall fuzz. I don't know if tomentose is normal for APEs? I certainly won't put them to grains yet. Another set of transfers is due asap but I need some guidance.

I'm not sure how many transfers I should do. I don't want to end up with too many dishes, I dislike being in that situation. I much prefer to have a tiny stash of clean grain specimens. My agar dishes are in the pc right now. i believe i put about 15 in there, I reckon that'll be enough for the next set. About to spawn the Big Tit multispore dish to oats. Tit-T1 dishes look great.

    1/14 Holy holy mother of
mercy BLESSED LORD you people don't understand- I have been bursting at the seams with constant SMART ATTACKS all week. I think i am going to aim to do less pictures going forward for sake of minimalism.
Smartattack informed me APEs are supposed to be tomentose.

This is good news because my dishes are certainly tomentose. In the threads discussion we mentioned Faht’s swabs being able to go straight to grains, astonished by this claim I’m putting Smart’s swab up to that test. Cheating a little because it’s already on a dish, but hey man, same thing right?

Praying for sterility and strong mycelium for everyone and myself!!! My favorite hero ever Jesus is going to make sure we all have shit tons of mushrooms yall. You know the fish multiplying story? I think this is just like that! It amazes me how easy it is to go from spores to oodles and oodles of shrooms.
The Tit-T1 and T2 (lol tit-t dishes) are doing fucking amazing in fact looking like some of the hottest dishes I've ever forged!

I cut my APEs into dual plates from opposing corners of the MS dish, making four APE-T2s, labeled alphabetically.
The other APE-MS dish running slower is still chilling. I am not sure what I want to do with it yet, my gut says leave it alone. My back is fucking killing me after all the drafting of just this days update. I think for next few days I'm going to try to pack everything I can into the next update, might try to go like a full week maybe longer IDK. I am tired.

i apologize for the deleted pics, was in a shitty headspace..

    MojaveMyc's LAGM 2022

Natalensis, Gandalf, a leucistic cut of Tidal Wave, Fiji x Tidal Wave, Yeti.

Nat spores came from these fruits: Tidal Wave: FxT: Yeti:

    1/1/2022:
Made Pasty plates in a hurry, don't mind the condensation.

With the exception of Gandalf, all of these spores came from prints I've taken within the last 6 months. Print>Swab>Plate. 3 Natalensis, 3 Gandalf, 3 Fiji x TW, 2 TW, and 2 Yeti. I made this agar with 1 cup leftover grain water, 5g agar, and .5g nutritional yeast.

    1/5:
We've got germination! Temps have been unusually cold here, so I've been struggling to keep everything warm. It's usually 50-60f here this time of year, but it has been in the 30's all week.
    Gandalf:   FxT: Tidal Wave:

Nothing yet on the Yeti plates, and to my surprise, no germ on the Nat plates. They're usually the first ones to pop. Hopefully they get moving, as I'll be making transfers at the end of the week.

1/8: Everything has germinated, and only two (FxT, TW) appear to be contaminated, so I'll be cleaning them out. Today, I took one transfer from the best looking myc on each remaining plate. The myc on Gandalf is a quite tomentose, so I took 5 different transfers from those to be safe. I'm confident in the rest. I accidentally mixed the spores from Yeti with another variety, likely Fiji. I got germ following both swabs, so here's hoping something fun will come out of it.

1/13: T1's are moving along quite well. Sorry for the shitty pictures, it's hard to get a good glimpse into the no-pours. Everything but Natalensis seems to be tomentose, but I don't mind. Natalensis, Gandalf, FxT, and TW seem clean enough to send to grain, so I'll send one of each and take transfers from the others as backups. Yeti is going to need some cleaning. PE just arrived, so I'll be adding PE & MVP to the list when I get them on agar.

    FxT: Yeti: Natalensis: TW: Gandalf:

1/14: Sent the six best t1s to grain today. 2 Natalensis, 2 Gandalf, 1 FxT, 1 Yeti. I try to go to grain as soon as possible for the sake of genetic diversity, as I'm always pheno hunting.  I'll start another 6 with t2's some time next week.

My grain prep is quite simple. I use hard red winter wheat. A couple of rinses, an hour on the stove, dumped in a colander to drain for 6 hours. 2 hours in the PC, then I let them sit overnight to let the grain absorb excess moisture.

    1/18:
T1's are doing well, going to give them a good shake tomorrow. Yes, I like to shake early.

1/21: Sent the six best t2's to grain. 2 TW, 2 FxT, and 2 Yeti.

The first six have recovered well and they are chugging along.
    Natalensis: Gandalf: Yeti & FxT:

    1/22:
Waiting is the worst part. Natalensis is tearing through the grain as expected. I'm surprised by how fast Gandalf is moving.
    Natalensis: Gandalf: Yeti & FxT:

    1/26:
Up early prepping coir today. The jars from round 1 are almost done.
    Nat: Gandalf: Yeti, FxT:

As expected, Natalensis finished first. I'll be spawning those two jars to a Faht style 16 qt tonight. Gandalf looks great, Yeti is certainly contaminated.

TW, Yeti, FxT T2's are recovering well after the shake.

2/3: I've been terrible about updating this, lol. Since the last update, I've spawned both Natalensis, three FxT, two Gandalf, and one jar of Yeti. One yeti jar stalled after the first shake, and the remaining four are just about done.
The Last FxT & Yeti, both bacterial. I must suck, these jars were from my t2's. The T1's finished without a hitch.
The TW jars still have a few days to go, unsurprisingly. I've grown this cut for years, and it has always been slow as molasses.

I spawned both Nat jars to one 16qt modified shoebox on 1/27. This is how it looks today:

I read that Gandalf would move slowly, but those jars were the first to finish after Natalensis. Each jar went to it's own unmodded shoebox. One with a thin top layer, one with exposed grain. Everything I could find on here said Gandalf doesn't like much of a top layer, so I'll listen  :bow2:

I spawned the FxT jars to their own shoeboxes p9 style, so there won't be much to document on those for a while.

2/11: Both Gandalf shoeboxes have knots, and the Natalensis tub has it's first pin! The remaining jars have been spawned, and the first FxT shoebox has reach full colonization.
    Gandalf

    FxT:

    Natalensis:

2/19: The Nat tub is turning out to be a bust  It is becoming clear to me that I've isolated some less than desirable traits over the last few months. Going a few generations back next time I start these from spore.

The first TW tub is now in the trash, #2 looks pretty good so far:

FxT 1 is starting to pin:

Gandalf is doing great. Tub 1 gave me a nice, even flush. Tub 2 seems to be going for size. I'll be cloning the best clusters and the largest solitary fruits.

    2/21: Harvested both Gandalf shoeboxes!

I pulled 572.6g wet from the first box, 728.5g wet from the second. The largest fruit weighed 50.2g. I'm thrilled! This is the best yield I have ever gotten from shoeboxes. The substrate in box # 2 was so dry that it crumbled to pieces as I harvested. Incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to work with these genetics.

Harvested a good half of the Nat tub. Didn't bother to weigh them. I'm tired of spaghetti. These got more FAE than any of my previous tubs, so I do think I selected some wonky genetics.

3/1: A pain flare has kept me in bed for the better part of the last two weeks. Since my last update:
FxT F4: Poor yield but I'm pleased with this generation, as this is the first that didn't dump spores. Previous generations were much chunkier in appearance, so I may try to backcross with an earlier gen.

Tidal Wave: First time I've had them come out skinny. Very pleased with this tub

Turns out I did double swab one of the Yeti germ plates with Fiji. The germ plate has both brown and white pins, while this tub came out looking like neither variety. I'm confident that this is not a mislabel, as the only spores in my possession on Jan 1 were the varieties you see posted. We'll see what the next generation brings.

I now have SWPE, Jack Frost, a Gandalf plate pin clone, tamps, and semperviva on grain. I'm planning on doing a giveaway when all of this is done, as I'm going to stop growing cubes (with the exception of crosses) after this run. I expect to fail a LOT with the exotics, so I doubt I'll have too much room on my shelves.

    LAGM 2022 [Re: Loomy] * 3
        #27599726 - 12/30/21 10:55 AM (2 years, 29 days ago)

    Pho's LAGM 2022

Damn bigfoot... Wishing u the best u stay safe this year ya heard?

Im def in - ill run this filthy APEU swab ive been meaning to get going.

Swab -> Agar (until clean) -> (MAYBE LC)-> Rye -> CVG (fruiting)
And since APE was one of my favorites ill probably clone and slant this strain for later use if it performs like everyone elses Flithy Apeu did, god damn gnarly

    1/2/22 "The Beginning of Anew"
Well i got around to setting up my SAB (a day late sue me i was hungover lol)

(feel free to roast the drunken soup can SAB that i havent cleaned up yet haha)

Busting out my bag of spores and you know... I got excited. I had to force myself not to jump into 5+ varieties from the start before i even start clones again cause I want room for clones and i have limited space this time around.  So i started the APEU swabs onto 5 different plates (Im not so lucky with swabs so i did a couple different methods to test how ill deal with swabs from here on out and looking back idk why i used 5 fucking plates i was a bit too stoned i think and got carried away) as well as a few other transfers.

Hopefully... My life doesnt fall apart this LAGM and cause me to leave behind all my work. But who knows.
    Shits cursed

    Until the next update shroomfam
    :peaceout:

    1/5 Mini Update
No growth i can see with my eye so far on the APEU plates. Im guessing APEU is going to take after APE with speed :camping:

    1/9
ALl my APEU plates took off in the past day. showing a dime worth or a bit less growth one basically every plate along with all the badies. Ill get T1s and pictures out tommorow  Hopefully yours are coming along @smartattack

    1/11 First Transfers
Looks like all my germ plates have some contams along. Maybe one clean one if i want to go back for seconds after i run these if im lucky. Imm gunna say it. APEU straight up looks like mold myc for a second  but here she is.

T1s made on these 60mm x 15mm because ive been finding a way to work them into my rhythm. Really good for first transfers or stuff you dont want to have to fight possible satellites with stuff you're already cleaning. Give you less room to have bad sterile tech.

If these come out clean they will be sent to t.2s with full size plates then to grain

Semi-related to LAGM i started from ground 0 no cultures on agar after a quite major recent life event less than a month before the new year so basically 2022. I started Filthy's TOC print that was sent to me in a giveaway and Faht's PE swab  and those are going really well. I have them to be what looks like 100% cleaned here at just t.2 so t.3 will most likely be to grain.

    1/18: Growth Update

Looks like 3 of the 4 ape T.1s are clean. Very poofy myc and if i didnt already clean APEU up once id be a bit worried about this being mold still.

    1/23 One. Last. Transfer!

APEU looking very poofy but went to 100m for grain next. I think it has something to do with me using the wrong wrap as well. Got cling wrap again  But other than that today was my biggest SAB session since i started back up. I did 10+ transfers and started 2 new varieties since my spores showed up this week (Thanks Quirk)! Officially onboarding Quirkmeisters Melmac genetics to the party as (Grrrr im so excited i hope i get lucky with MS) as well as my APE genetics from last years grow (pics in my sig). I realized APEU isnt going to have the same potency as APE (idk why i assumed that ever tbh) so gotta have some of that since it was everyones favorite to consume

Non LAGM: TOC and PE went to 100mm petris today in hopes to see grain next transfer  Next update will be grain prepping/pcing and making master jars. I might get a little fuckin nasty and do a josex poke LC. That was what i was getting into right as everything fell apart for me. I love the SAB work but cutting down on petris would be amazing. Hopefully i can get a good LC going with my SAB.

Sorry for the bad pic but u get the point.

I could have done this much faster but with class starting and the cold ive been moving slow  But 23 days to clean up APEU from spore to T.2 ready for grain is good enough for little ol me.

    2/14 Masters Created

Ive been slow to get masters up to snuff as this is my dive back into the hobby and i had to make all new master jar set ups and have had some car/life troubles setting me back. But i officially modded 25 master jars that are pc'd and ready

Will be sending these plates to them today.
    APEU for LAGM

PE and TOC cultures started in December

PE is nice and whispy and the condensation is killer. Theyve grown out and touched the edges since my aforementioned set backs but ive made sure to keep a close eye on them at least making sure no satellites were grown over.
After a long winded LAGM post here the master jars colonizing. Hard part done. Prep some sub and spawn and well have flushes no time.

    Growth Update: 2/20
Recovery on grain on 1 jar per strain. They all look pretty good though so far *knocks on wood*

    APEU

    TOC

    PE

First time prepping rye i think its on the drier side (ithink). Oops. Will boil for longer next time when increasing the recipe.
2/27 Quick growth update shaking in a day or 2.

    APEU

    PE1

    PE2

    TOC

2 out of 24 bad jars both TOC could be from the plate but i think it was bad technique. Either way i still have surviving toc jars that look fine

    4/11
Ive been in an insane depression trying to wrangle my way out of it. I put down cult work so the SAB has been getting some dust as my master jars line up to fail it seems, needed more transfers before going to grain. 8/26 jars gone to mold. APEU is taking 10 years on this grain thats dried out, almost ready but all PE is ready to spawn and im hoping the whispy weak looking myc is just PE doing its thing or else im in for some moldy shoeboxes. Pic update soon. I need to get back on the wagon and get some dishes going.

    4/12
Got in and spawned 8 PE jars to buket teked coir in shoeboxes and im not entirely sold on the cleanliness of the spawn.
    The 8x Jars

I think i shouldve spent more time with the culture before grain, especially TOC like mentioned, but i still have the petris that i went to grain from left over and can continue working with these cultures. Hopefully these shoeboxes provide nice clones and i can go from there as i start new things. Anyway its done and ill watch out for nasties. I think ill top fruit these TOC jars as well. One of the donor plates went green. Im assuming that was the 2 jars that went green months ago already.

Also this is what i get for choosing to PE types.... everyone harvested a month ago or more lol. I need to start some normal varieties AND stop being lazy.
Anyway heres the set up as well as some of todays activities.

May 8th Update: First Harvest! Better late than never

Well ill start with saying im disappointed in this grow as of right now. I chose some relatively difficult genetics to work with as well as slacked a bit and as a result here i am 5 months into this project and harvesting my first shoebox... of  blobs. PE is notoriously difficult to work with in all stages as it damn sure takes its time on Agar, in jars, colonizing substrate, pinning and growing out all of which i knew but i finally wanted to grow the sought after original PE genetics. What i didnt want to do was pasteurize peat and verm for casing layers well simply because its extra steps. I found out about P9's super thick top layer and decided to give it a try... kind of. In his write up he mentions not adding tons of extra sub to not for sure clean spawn so I for the reason of not knowing my agar work had been 100% added a decently thick about inch casing layer (smaller than called for in P9s writeup)

and all my PE shoeboxes have indeed shit the bed first flush. All blobs.

TLDR: I did PE genetics and got the blobs because i didnt use a top layer tek correctly. Now im praying for second flush fruit which looks very plausible with the amount of primordia going on in all the boxes (only one pictured)

Stuff looks like coral almost and if it didnt smell like mush and bruise blue id be scared  first time with blobs like this. Now im not complaining about 320g of blobs for 1 myco quart of spawn first flush with an insane amount of primordia. I just wanted some first flush magic, but thats what practice is for!

TC is going ham in the jars im going to clone some of the nice looking clusters on top and work with. cant harvest most fruits tho ): Mostly just grabbing clones and going from there. I understand its a waste of fruit but im not ripping apart the whole thing for a few bodies ill just clone and grow a mono

and APEU is taking FOREVER to fruit i think we might be fucked on that one. The top layer has hardened with white fluff on most APEU boxes and it dont look right. Maybe thats just APEU

As the title suggests just harvesting more blobs as they progress and go soft. Some actual dicks appearing in some of the shoeboxes but overall really hoping for good second flushes without blobs. Initial pinset looks decent on some tubs so wish me luck! Looking insanely dry so i watered them lol

More TOC busting out of the top of the jars.

Yea I'm not sure what I've gotten myself into.. :feelsparanoidman:

I was planning on taking a hiatus after this season for a while anyway so my disappearance is somewhat planned and won't be as mysterious. I figured this way nobody else has to disappear and I was going to be gone for a while anyway. It seems like the only way to break the curse!
