The dark agar is awesome looking.. the bad part is can’t see my writing on the lid so I used tape underneath..
D I’m glad you made this thread bro .. making plates has become an obsession now !!

Got some orange ones poured..they’re stabilizing in front of the flow hood getting all the condensation out before I wrap them with grafting tape..

Absolutely beautiful bro! Great stuff, I been using a metallic silver sharpie for my black plates. Shows up real good

I just ordered these to try
BIC Intensity Metallic Permanent Marker, Fine Point, Assorted Colors, 8-Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EP0QGKY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6doNFbN8RDRP1
Instead of wrapping the plates, try saving the sleeve they came in, stacking them and sliding the sleeve back over them and storing them in there. Works great for me!
Just fold the opening under and the weight of the plates keeps it closed. I was supposed to pour more plates today but never got around to it

Ever since I got my flowhood I’ve only had one plate go bad on me.. but if the sleeve is working for you I’ll give it a run too.. The grafting tape works outstanding and is cheaper also.. I’m makin more plates tomorrow for the PESA clones.. I’ll give it a shot..

Still wrap the plates with cultures on them but for the poured plates just waiting for xfers the sleeve works great.

Question, if I want to use your tek to pour Agar in a SAB, what size tote would you recommend? Taller? Or longer? I don't seem to have enough room in my current one to even inoculate 12 half pints with a syringe 😂
If I pour 1 sleeve of petri dishes should I do 1 stack or 2? And how tall are those stacks?

Why use a tote. If I wasn't using a hood id build a decent sized one from scratch.

I live in a small apartment and have very limited space to work with. Totes can be multipurpose and will have to do for now until I buy a house.

I wanted to say thank you so much for this thread! I FINALLY decided to start working with agar and using the info you shared I had 100% success with my first attempt!
Gonna make some more today and try my hand at transfers... Fingers Crossed!

I'm extremely happy with them. Thank you again!
i went ahead and sliced a few up and transferred to LC jars. Most of what I've seen people do is agar to grain... Do you have any input on this? I know a lot of people are anti-LC because of the difficulty in identifying contams in the jar. I've had pretty good success with LC in the past so I took a shot.

Can you explain the purpose of boiling the agar ingredients before pressure cooking? Why can't I mix my agar and lme together then pc as it comes to a boil in the pc anyways?
I see people using microwaves or boiling before pc. I'm trying to understand the process of this step.

Of course. If you’re pouring, boiling before the pc is retarded.

It’s the difference between crystal clear plates or cloudy sediment riddled plates, the pre-boil and mix is to dissolve the ingredients. But I guess I’m retarded 🤷🏽♂️
