Ah, it's good to know that a little carbon won't hurt. In fact, it may be beneficial. Anecdotal reports indicate that, to some degree, charcoal protects the agar/myc from contams.
I love the photos of your black agar and the contrast it provides.
Thanks again!

So I started using like the 5/16 punch opting for a smaller sample size. I started out with the 3/8. I am noticing a lot more organization in the growth and less sectoring.
Will post pictures in a day or two of some Nats!

Think I started with the 5/16 and ended up down to a quarter.

This is great stuff I will be trying this soon. What fantastic pictures too. You can really see the difference in clarity in good old fashioned PS petri dishes versus PP dishes that eats is using. It's night and day truly. Disposables are king, shame about the waste issue.

I think of waste from a use standpoint. The dishes lead to plenty good. But something like a water bottle or straw are pretty useless. Most people willingly waste plenty of plastic and water all day but throw a fit at it in the mycology perspective. I don't get it.

no doubt I think thats a fair way to see it. I have a case of glass dishes in storage and use my trusty disposables every day. Because they are just better.

I love the punch. It makes things faster if you got your sterile tek down.

Is that some kind of tape Hobbit? Nice pic.
I ordered a piece of 1/4" stainless seamless tubing that should be here soon. It should make a good punch with less thermal mass. Stoked.

Yeah its graphting tape for plants. Just like Suran wrap. That pic is before I knew to stretch it. Now it doesn't look so sloppy.

Just here for the tek, a pic of some black looking agar brought me here. The contrast of the mycelium to the agar hooked me. Thanks my dude.

Responded to this a few days ago but I must not of hit the confirm button. (I’m always doing this 😔)
I’ve been using this grafting tape with good success. Just got to be careful not to stretch TOO tight or it splits along the plate seams.

Excellent Agar Tek! I need to find that food coloring! what agar recipes do you use besides the MEA? Do you use any other supplements like Yeast Extract, Yeast Nutrient, peptone or DAP(DiAmmonium Phosphate)?

Not sure how I feel about that myc. Post back once it's grown in some more. If it was my plate I'd be extremely suspect and possibly toss it in the scrap pile. Then again i'm notorious for tossing probably perfectly good plates.

Agreed, looks like mold. Glad you said it first.
