Wouldn’t blame you, the leather punches where great as a starter set but as the tek evolves I should probably update it. I haven’t used a punch myself in quite a long time. Just get and stay too damn hot.
I’ll probably need to replace the tubing in mine some time soon as it’s starting to warp at the side vent.

Hard to tell but it’s really thin wall thickness.

I don’t have a drill press or a lathe but something like this would be freaking awesome. Maybe I’ll add those to my wanted tool list.

i think they look like they would take a long time to flame and then would retain heat like the leather punches. that beveled tip tells me its got a very thick wall and cooling it fast is all about the thinnest wall possible. (in my one day of experience.)

I have some of those punches. They do get pretty hot, and I've never had the patience to get them red hot. I put some silicone tubing over the handle, makes it easier. If I was doing a ton of transfers it'd probably be easier to use something with less mass.

yup. its pretty obvious to me with little experience that minimal wall thickness (mass) is the key to a useful punch tool.

I need to find my little handheld scope. Every time I run across it I’m not thinking about needing it for anything. I know soon as I order a new one I’ll find the one floating around in junk drawers somewhere.

There's many ways to achieve similar results but this what works for me. Feel free to experiment with different recipes and nutrient levels.
D3monic - I've seen your plates around a lot, and always have thought they were beautiful. My agar work has been less than exemplary and so I ordered the leather punches online and gave it a shot. Bro... Not only are the aesthetics 1000% better with the circle punch, but picking up the rounds with the scalpel is so easy. Everything feels streamlined and clean and the blending is a very nice touch for clarity. Thank you so much, I feel like this one tek just upped my game by 100%. Really great

Awesome man, that’s what it’s all about. Even if it’s just a stepping stone for you to up your game now, you’ll be able to build on it and add your own methods, recipes and processes.

I leave my plates in front of my flow hood till the condensation is gone .. I don’t wrap them with the grafting tape either until it’s all cleared up looking pretty ..

Orange and green seem to be my fastest plates. I always use commercially procured plates with no color as a control and those colors seem to out-perform even those.
No actual data collected. I am about 200 plates into this journey and thats just my gut.
