The punch is great but I don't use 100% the time. If it's a early streak plate or I just want to grab a tiny tiny edge piece I'll still use the scalpel. Depends on what I'm seeing on the plate.
This swab plate for example. I probably wouldn't hesitate to use the punch on any that rhizo growth.. and I will be this afternoon.

But if I have a plate like this, where I see some growth I def like but a potential underlay of something iffy I'll trace the imaginary line of the iffy circle and transfer as small as possible outside that.

I'd include that clear halo in the trace.

Agreed, sometimes it's myc but could be bacteria. Without a scope it's pretty impossible to tell.

In this case, since it seems to be on the margins of suspected mold, I would expect it to be mold. But I'm extremely mold-paranoid.

I didn’t have any extra deli cups poured for a dunk. Tried to stand it up in the petri but fell over. usually if the wood touches agar they tam out with brown slime looking bacteria but got lucky on that one.

I just think it is cool that the punch is now D3monics thing! Can we get some one to add this to a sticky?
Yeah also that looks like mold and mycelium on the one plate in question. Strange I haven't seen a plate do that so clearly before.

Beautiful tek and great looking plates! I've only done a couple of pours and transfers, but I aspire to get it down like this!

As someone who has some of the most ghetto agar around I must say these are some beautiful plates. Another great writeup here on the shroomery. Thanks for the contributions D3

So sexy!! I ordered all the fixings to make those sexy plates happen, I actually ran my agar through the blender before boiling and it helped to make very clear!! I did some crosses yesterday also! I need some liberty cap spores to try with tamps since they're closely related! I just learned libs can make truffles which is interesting.

Yeah no shit on the clear agar. I blended my last batch of potato flake based pda the only time it has been even remotely clear
