How/should I suggest/educate someone on possible benefits of mushrooms?
    #25059443 -

I have lived 98% of my life in the dark so to speak.  Had my first psychedelic experience last year.  Have had probably 30+ since.  I feel like I'm a better person because of psilocybin.  I also look forward to making more progress.

I have people in my life that I feel potentially could also benefit.  I want to get the information to them, but don't want to push anything on them.  However, even if I'm very clear that it's their choice, it could still be seen as suggesting.  I don't want them coming after me if they choose the wrong option for themselves.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Don't suggest anything to anyone who isn't asking.

The universe will lead them to you precisely when they are meant to begin their journey.

Just let them know the experience you've had with them.

Let them decide with the knowledge you present them.

Make sure they know that they should be in a good mood and location.  Set and setting should be preached haha.

LD-50 is something akin to 240mg/kg, essentially means OD'ing is near on impossible. You'd have to eat 20kg wet or 2kg dry and by that time you'd vomit. Plus you'd be a moron to do that much at once, it'd be like having 20 packets of cigarettes in an hour.

So physically they're not harmful, might get you an upset belly but psilocybin itself won't poison you.
If someone is trying it for the first time do not do it in a situation where anything could disturb them and I mean anything. Hence you need 24-48hours min in a safe place with no distractions and access to toilet, food, water etc.

Bad shit only happens if you think you're going to die because you don't know if psilocybin is poisonous or not, or if you take them and sit behind a dumpster at hungry jacks miles away from home where you are alone and know no one.

Essentially, stay at home, be safe, don't go partying especially if you've never experienced something like psilocybin before.

Only downside is that you 90% won't fall asleep before 24 hours, even after the trip (4-10 hours), you can have trouble sleeping for another 12 hours or so, this is why some people enjoy a bit of bud for the come down.

:themoreyouknow:

Dosage also makes a huge difference;
0-0.5g: no visuals, mildly mood uplifting, giddy feels

0.5-2g: no visuals, moderately uplifting and giddy feels, 2g can make funny distorted vision but only slightly.

2g-4g: visuals, kaleidescope like colours, trees won't come alive, but the bark will look like sunlight that ripples off water. Heavy physical sensations are felt above 2g that build up from the 1hr point after ingestion that peak around the 2hr point, moderately wavey physical/internal sensations of mildly shifting gravity.

4g-6g: This is a heavy dose and will induce strong visuals of kaleiodescopic colour changes and patterned surfaces with strong physical sensations from 1hr to 3hr point, after this it's basically 'mush' feelings of peaceful comfort, some call it ego death, others might just consider it being comfortable with your surroundings.

6g+ Can be too much for some, mental media goes a bit haywire, all visuals and feelings are still there but a bit more intense, can be very intense, not recommended at all for first time.

2g-4g recommended for first timers, with trip sitter or experienced tripper and safe environment without disruptions for 24-48hrs.

Also lots of cited benefits:

Not telling them at all seems like withholding information.  I don't believe they will be guided, or receptive to some force, if it exists.

I'm not worried about physical contraindications.  Just unsure how vulnerable they would be mentally, if at all.

Interesting data, Sudly.  24-48 hours?  My trips from eating to sleep are usually in the 10 hour range.  But sometimes sleep is hard to realize, like you said.  Totally agree with set and setting, and would heavily emphasize that aspect.

And going out of your way to tell them is like vegans going out of their way to tell people they are vegan, and how awesome being vegan is and why they should try being vegan.

If people want help, they will generally say or show it, or be put into a situation that reveals it to them. If someone is ready for healing, ther opportunity will present itself when THEY are ready.

I'm sure you have good intentions at heart, but its not your place to suggest anything unless they express interest or desire to learn more.

Lol  what's wrong with sharing your experiences with other people?

It's not the OPs place to talk to his friends?

You act like sharing thoughts and ideas is a bad thing.

If they ask, and are not playing manipulative games with you (i.e. to expose you as a junkie), then yes, help them understand what you understand. Otherwise, you are chasing people around with your own obsessions.

I didn't imagine a scenario like that.  It would be along the lines of saying something like, "have you read about the effects of psilocybin on that?", or "a new scientific study shows...".  I do not feel comfortable telling someone, "you need to do them".  If I felt their curiosity increased, perhaps I would offer anecdotal, personal experiences if they cared to know, but I do not intend on pushing someone to do something.

If you truly believe that someone who is ready will be presented with the medicine, how could you not believe that it's possible that it be presented by another human?

If you study and learn, then if asked you can share what you know, but I would not initiate or instigate.

Why?

What's wrong with sharing knowledge, and talking to your friends and family?

You act like we shouldn't ever tell anybody about any of our experiences, because it might make them want to do it.

People can make their own decisions.  Giving them the knowledge to do so is not a bad thing.

All the OP want to do is tell someone about the potential benefits of mushrooms.

Why are there so many people on this website saying not to, it's fucked.

Let's all just sit in a dark hole so we never influence each other in any way.

Yeah makes sense.

wrong,
I am not talking about hiding facts,
I am talking about hiding potentially threatening personality and habits.

people are easily threatened (and you cant ask them not to be) by dope of any kind.

would you announce that you were earning money as a prostitute?
probably not.
same reason.

I recommend referencing them to the Shroomery trip report section as well as Erowid's trip' report section. Erowid has categories of trip experiences under every drug. For instance, they have glowing experiences, mild experiences, bad experiences, and train wrecks, and so forth.

It is smart to be well educated on all the possible outcomes of drug intake.

I would simply say that it's an experience that everyone should try, under the proper supervision of course, at least once in their lives. I personally prefer LSD, because it upsets my stomach less. But where can you find quality LSD anymore? And who's making it? What did they have to do to get the ingredients and equipment? What is it funding? When you grow or pick your own mushrooms, you don't have to worry about stuff like that.

As for what psychedelics have done for me: I'd say they've made me a deeper, more profound person. Although I do admit to being traumatized by bad trips, I don't believe that my brain has been irrepairably damaged. In fact, I'd call psychedelics a crucial part of my education in art, culture, science, spirituality, and psychology, but just like everything, there are times to partake and times to abstain. A Bluegrass festival when you're in a good mood might be a better set and setting for mushrooms than a darkstep drum and bass show right after you just got dumped.

I refute this idea.

I think everybody should be educated on mushrooms rather than be convinced to try them.

If you educate someone on the pros and cons, then they can make a rational decision.

Education is no substitute for experience.

Some of the most highy educated people I know are actually the stupidest, and some of the wisest have no education at all.

I second DoctorJ's suggestion that everyone should try at least once. It couldn't do any harm but it has the potential to do a fuckload of good.

It will only destroy what you are not.
