I don't mind homosexuals, I just don't approve of the gay lifestyle.

I hear this said quite a bit- politicians, coworkers, whatever. 

Can anyone tell me what this means?  Apparently others know, cuz they keep saying it, but its never spelled out.  Is it just an invitation to substitute your personal views for the text of the statement, or does it convey a concrete idea?

The gay people I've known were pretty sneaky- I think they snuck out at night to pratice their lifestyle, cuz I never really caught on.

i don't care if someone is homosexual.
What i don't like is the mentality of a majority of the homosexual male.
They act like female teenagers imo.
i just don't like infantile people.

I don't say all are.
It's just something i noticed in europe. There is a group of homosexuals who are only into shopping etc and are complete retards.
That's the ones i dislike.
I dislike them for their personality, not being homoseksual.

What people sexual preference is doesn't matter to me.
But if you'll act like a fool then i can't do much else then to dislike you.

I half qualify as gay, and I find the whole liking musicals and prima donna behaviour offputting.

Maybe they just don't like the idea of men doing bumsex.

I think this is specific to western culture, where information about homosexuals is becoming more and more factual and thus a norm. As a result homophobic people don't like to be seen as assholes, so they experience cognitive dissonance and say they "don't mind homosexuals". This part is meant to confuse themselves and others for the next part. Now that people don't think the person is homophobic, they can say that they don't approve of the lifestyle without them and other people noticing the apparent contradiction in that statement. It reminds me of 1984's double think slogan "freedom is slavery".

The only non homophobic way of adding dislike to "I don't mind homosexuals", would be to say "it's not my thing" or something similar, since everyone is not gay and I don't have a problem with that (actually I do).

If you can't notice a homosexual, unless he is acting flamboyant, then that doesn't mean all homosexuals are flamboyant. Flamboyant homosexuals might be the minority for all me and you know.

How many have you actually met and have gotten to know? And even if they are flamboyant, why is it such a bad thing?

I have nothing against homosexuality or homosexuals and in no way do I think they to be lesser than me.

I honestly just think sex is meant to be an act of biological reproduction between two opposite gendered people.  Sure, people have needs and all that shit, but I think that it's a man and a woman thing.  This is  my personal opinion, I see no problem in people doing whatever they want with their own bodies.  But this is my personal point of view on the matter of sex.

What is this bullshit concept of 'meant' that you speak of?

Fucking the opposite sex increases offspring and the likelihood of a species continuing. It is just a statistical fact. There is nothing 'meant'.

Sometimes it means that they (the religious nutjob making the comment) don't mind that someone is gay, but they mind that someone acts out their gayness.

In other words, it's fine that god made you gay, but it's not fine that you should seek out companionship of the same sex because that is a choice to commit a sin.

God wants gay people to live lonely, miserable lives of solitude or alternatively to marry a woman they aren't attracted to, don't want to live with, don't enjoy the constant company of, and to somehow force an erection and make babies with her.

But god also loves gay people and wants them to be happy with this woman they don't want to be with. :facepalm:
