I don't know why you think there's a stubborn refusal to consider intelligent design. It was widely accepted until 150 years ago.

You've no answer that I've seen other than to claim an erroneous (or at least unsupported) definition of evolution and argue against that.  If that was what evoltuion was it would be useless.
