computers dont run on "science" either.

Between spirituality and science, which discipline is more likely to deal with circuit boards, microchips, power adapters, etc.?

obviously science but that doesn't mean spiritually has no practical applications which is what the poster was implying.

If I wasn't versed (if I didn't _believe_) in the tools of science I wouldn't accept that evidence either. Although evidence is not entirely relative to the worldview it is related to and empirical evidence can destroy certain beliefs the belief-system is more important than the evidence. The reason you see that evidence as necessary and important is because you believe in science, rationality, causality, etc.

What?
My point being, anyone can :whatever: with language, but science aims to figure out real things in this universe.  Sure you might not believe in science, but its a silly argument as you clearly enjoy using the fruits of its labor.  So your argument basically boils down to an inability to accept reality or to accept that spirituality has given us nothing of tangible benefit, while us brainwashed scientists have brought us out of the forest.

humans formed civilizations long before any formal scientific method was established. as einstein said, science is just a refinement of everyday thinking. science and spiritually are not mutually exclusive, nor do they have the exact same aim. for example psychology is a feild of science but psychologists certainly didn't build your computer. does that mean psychology is useless? no, it just means it practical application lies in a different area. similarly, spirituality isn't meant to replace chemistry for instance but there is no reason a spiritual person cannot be a chemist. if you want proof of the effects of spirituality i can refer to studies on monks brains showing that meditation does change them.

Re: evolution or creationism? oh dear not again... [Re: top]

the naked idea of evolution is that some children survive to mate and produce other children in spite of difficult conditions; subtle changes will occur over a long period of time as heredity is slowly altered by random mutations.

the naked idea of creationism is that changes in heredity are altered by some external organization and that mutation is not random at all.

A psychiatrist can tell which naked idea needs serious help with paranoid delusions. A physicist can suggest the enormous complexity of a multidimensional gamma radiation modulation system that would be required to enable any creationistic mutation. Even a pope will hesitate to commit to such a determinism.

Psychiatrists are not scientists. They are shamans. Get one drunk and ask him.

I prefer creationism...or, preferably, intelligent design. I hold to The Flying Spaghetti Monster view of intelligent design.

"A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

that's just what a physicist would probably call it.

When did the study of evolution begin? Bible says that if you beleive in evolution you are not a follower of God. Strange that it would be in the book if science hadn't started to discover it yet...
But yet, I don't know anything about science i choose to keep myself blinded most the time.

The bible doesn't say anything about natural selection. Evolution theory is from the 19th century.

The theory of natural selection is from the 19th century, but the idea that species evolve from other species goes back at least as far as the ancient Greeks.
