Why people believe in evolution despite the fact it is a failed theory with no scientific basis?
    #6707773 -

Scientists are people with predisposed assumptions based on personal beliefs. The origins of man reaches right down to what one believes. The bottom line is that most scientists are not concerned with truth, but making theories to defend what they already believe, then cloaking this in high sounding jargon.

Mutations are supposed to account for increased complexity and new kinds of life. While it is true that mutations can scramble pre-existing information, and this may result in a trait that could be beneficial to a life form, this is where it ends. Mutations have never create new information that will result in the creation of a new species. Simple common sense should tell you that more complex information is not created by disorder. Mutations are almost always destructive. A fish can not turn into a mammal, Where is this information coming from? It can not be from a random mutation. All things are created after their kinds. Men are willfully ignorant of basic facts when it comes in conflict with beliefs.

Many scientists are coming to realize that the theory is not salvageable anymore. I am sure many know it is bunk but tow the line because their jobs and reputation might be damaged.

I consider evolution and mutation completly different things.

why do people beleive in religous "gods" with no scientific basis?

Science, by its very nature, demands that these people you speak of, whatever they believe, abandon their beliefs when a simpler, testable explanation arises and can show conclusive results after said testing has been done.
If they do not, then they are not scientists.

I'd like to ask what your beliefs recommend you do if a better explanation than the one you currently have surfaces.

Wrong. All scientific ideas are disprovable, and whenever a scientific article is published the peer review process seeks to dismantle and disprove the ideas being presented.

In science, there is no such thing is an indefinite "belief." There are only tentative explanations.

Pffffffffffffffffffffffffftttttttttttttttttttt.... ok believe whatever you want
First off, I'm not a huge reader of fiction so I'm not too sure what the bible is about.

second, i guess umm... To each his own.

......But don't shove it down our throats.

This shouldn't even be a thread because there's no debate here. The Bible has its own set laws/rules/dogma and science has its own rules/laws. So this whole topic is 100% invalid if you're comparing the two.

I mean science is something that can be seen, denying your sight of certain correlations is extremely ignorant, no offense. Darwinism, for example, is pretty self-explanatory and can clearly be seen. As a matter of fact, an experiment was done with fish in ponds. There were guppi fish and then some larger fish. The smaller guppies were more favored by the larger fish to eat, but the larger guppies were too big for the larger fish and therefore lived. Over the years they saw a dramatic increase in the population of larger guppies, not because the guppies said, "hey we need to grow!" but because... "only the strong or most fit to their environment survive".

I'll believe myself before someone who preaches from a book of faith, which was written and revised by man.

I could throw so many "what ifs" and "what abouts" with religion and christianity that I'd get sick. life shouldn't be restricted to the specific dogma religions tie themselves to. Life is everchanging and so should beliefs alone with ways of life to, get this, ADAPT and EVOLVE to modern life.

The church just can't herd everyone around like they used to. Those are the old times.

you're like the shroomery's very own fire and brimstone preacher.

Seriously, why do you want to change people's views? let people be the people they are. Don't be that determining asshole for some insecure kid and mislead them. Everyone should find their own path, or at least that's what I believe. And if Christ and God are real then everyone's path should lead there regardless.

my first guitar teacher told me the best way to make up songs was to not listen to any other music... and as painful as that was to do, it was true and the songs i made were unique. I don't know if this example will do me justice in my explanation but people shouldn't taint people by shoving beliefs down their throat.

A microscopic creature that hasn't had sex for 40 million years has stunned scientists by managing to evolve into different species.

Up to now most scientists assumed that asexual animals could not carry out natural selection processes quickly enough, if at all, to be able to produce new species.

And it had been thought that sexual reproduction was essential for forming new species because of the mixing of genes.

But researchers at Imperial College found that the microscopic aquatic animals bdelloid rotifers ARE subject to natural selection processes and have survived for so long by diverging into different species.

The creature - about a third of a millimetre in size - multiplies by producing clones of the mother, and there are no males.

By analysing the DNA and jaw measurements of bdelloid rotifers living in different environments across the UK, Italy and other areas, the research team found that distinct species existed.

And the diversification was surprising because it occurred not just because of isolation in certain habitats, or because of random mutations in the cloning process, but because of the different selection processes caused by those environments, as is common with sexual organisms.

Dr Tim Barraclough, who led the research, said it was groundbreaking.

He said: "This research has thrown open a new world of scientific interest because it poses the question 'Do we know everything we think we know about species divergence and even evolution itself?'.

"There has been a lot of scepticism about these organisms in particular, about how they had survived for so long, and now we have been able to put the issue to rest. And I think there will be a lot interest in the findings.

"What we've shown is that it is really natural selection that is helping these creatures survive."

He went on to describe the bdelloid rotifers as being "amazing creatures." He said: "We have always thought that asexual organisms like the rotifers should become extinct because they cannot perform natural selection quickly enough.

"These organisms are really unique because they've survived for millions of years - they are by far the strongest candidate from the asexual field to have lasted this long."

Dr Barraclough, from Imperial College, described one "remarkable" instance of diversification. They found two different species of rotifer living on the body of the same creature, a water louse, one round its legs and one on its chest. The species differed in body size and jaw shape according to the different habitats.

And he added that the techniques used in the study were revolutionary.

He said: "There have been other studies along the same lines which have used genetics as a basis only, but ours is the first to take into account morphology as well.

"I'm very excited about two things - how we can use these processes to analyse species variation in a wider range of organisms, and secondly how we can use the results to work out how the rotifers have been able to survive for so long."

Bdelloid rotifers live in watery or occasionally wet environments including soil, rivers and ponds

That story is the coolest thing I've ever heard.

I think it demonstrates that life is a formless phenomenon that is passing through a medium which influences the form it takes. Our species could be so different that, in comparison, there would be few similarities.

We need someone to post some fractal images. :stoned:

funny how one day we say the earth is flat and the next it's round. kinda reminds me of that

fivepointer, take a science class.. Even creationists believe in microevolution.. You actually don't think that there is never a change in allele frequencies among a population?? Why is there a new flu shot every year? Why are people scared of the bird flu? Also, mutations are not the only way evolution is shown. Do you think dogs today are the same as they were 2000 years ago? Maybe I'm wrong. After all,

Science makes a good argument that the earth is round because that's just want they want to believe, but the earth is actually flat (see how dumb that sounds?).

False. Science is a phenomenon that exists independantly of any one scientist, and is based upon observation of reality as it occurs.

Look at the crossbred species(lions or tigers, plants of any kind, zebras and donkeys, dogs and wolves, coyotes and dogs, bobcats and domestic cats, etcetera..). What do you think the offspring is, honestly?
It's like an instantaneous evolution
