Actually i'd be better off knowing that i'm not special. Then i can continue my journey with the thought of being one with nature and nurture. It's better to put things into perspective that way.

Knowing this is all meaningless would bring great meaning to me.

Peace,
Droz

I believe that, and I live the same way I always did, except instead of falling back on a Bible to base my morals, I search myself and discover my own set of morals to live by.

And just because you are not more important that any other thing doesn't mean you aren't important; everything is a piece to a really big puzzle, so each piece has some importance, undoubtedly.

The immediate experience of life is diverse, joyfull, emotionally and spiritually intense. How could this immediate, visceral, potent and multifaceted experience ever be overshadowed by a bloodless intellectual concept like "life is not special"...

I am in love, with my life, my god, my partner, my quest, my vision. So long as i remain in love, such statements can never have any meaning.

Icelander said:
If you came to the conclusion that you weren't important. Or no more important than an ant or any other thing. If you became convinced that you were just a bunch of programming from nature and nurture and there was nothing special about your life. Would this make a difference in how you lived and what you lived for.

why come to conclusions in life?

"just a bunch of programming"
"there was nothing special about your life"

these conclusions don't last forever, through realization of impermanence and non-attachment they dissolve and can be replaced by creativity, bliss, expression, awareness, new experiences.

it is up to me to make my life special, no one can tell me it is not. life cannot be contained within definition, it is something you become or cut yourself off from. unity or duality, higher awareness or ignorance...

i mean, you so know what im talking bout

you need to look much deeper into this angst you have expressed.

it is possible that these are natural subconscious reactions when it begins to comprehend the song of the priests:

kick back awile, it passes - it always does

at Socrates first satori, he stated that now he knew nothing.

when the oracle of Delphi learned of this, she decreed him the wisest man alive.

but, to combine both statements together and sign Socrates name to it is a travesty of justice.

What is post was about for me is the struggle I went through and go through to find meaning in my life once I came to believe my life most likely wasn't any more special than anything else and my life wasn't of special importance to the Universe. No one (up there) was thinking about me or looking out for me and when I died nothing out there cared about the how and why of that event.

So, I'm going to assume, because you mentioned, No one (up there) was thinking about me or looking out for me and when I died nothing out there cared about the how and why of that event., that before you realized that, you believed that your life was of special importance to the Universe and there was someone up there thinking about you and looking out for you and when you died something out there cared about the how and the why of that event.

OK this is very generic, it is pretty meaningless to me.

It begs a hundred questions, for instance,

In what way prior to this revelation were you of special importance to the Universe?

What kind of meaning were you looking for in your life?

Did you find any meaning in your life prior to your revelation?

Why would you think that someone up there was looking out for you?

Who told you someone was looking out for you?

Why was it of any importance that something out there cared about your life?

etc., I have more, I'm guessing you'll get the drift.

No one (up there) was thinking about me or looking out for me and when I died nothing out there cared about the how and why of that event.

Now as fireworks god has warned someone about personalisms, I am reluctant express an opinion, but Icelander, I have never heard such whiny crap from a grown man in all my days, so I'm guessing that you said this, you meant it to serve as a lesson for others, when they address an audience, to be aware of what they sound like, because you seem capable and mature, so I'm guessing when you say something like this is not in earnest, but just an example to others, an example of what to not to sound like. One other thing comes to mind, that English is not your native language and that you are not aware of how whiny this sentence sounds to the rest of the English speaking world.

Not that there is anything wrong with being whiny. I find whiny people to be some of the most capable people I know. I think it is a way of venting for many people, but it is annoying and makes it very hard to concentrate on what they are talking about.

Whining when it comes out of self reliant people is especially annoying, it seems incongruent. Although there lives are orderly and well maintained there words are not.

Because this the phrase that I quoted sounds like whining, and it was not meant as a flame. It sounds like you have not recognized how nature and nurture have set limitations.

Now as fireworks god has warned someone about personalisms, I am reluctant express an opinion, but falcon, I have never heard such blatant, rule-defying personalisms from a moderator in all my days, so I'm guessing that you said this, you meant it to serve as a lesson for others, when they post in this forum, to be aware of the clear-cut rules against flaming in this forum, because you seem capable and mature, so I'm guessing when you say something like this is not in earnest, but just an example to others, an example of what to not to post in this forum. One other thing comes to mind, that English is not your native language and that you are not able to read rules which are quite clear to the rest of the English speaking world.

You're a moderator and you don't know what a personalism is? You don't understand the rules and how to abide by them? Don't you receive any training for the job?
