They are not "my" definitions, but the dictionary definitions, and, yes, they are the final word on the actual meaning of a particular word.

But has same roots but different meaning. While the word how I would use it, would stem more from the origins, and yours stems from 'usage' in its own.

As I said, the current definition of a word may or may not directly relate to the Latin root. Latin is, after all, a "dead" language, whereas English is still living and changing as a result of usage.
Icelander's post related to the "better than" current English definition of special, and therefore the Latin root is irrelevant.
Sorry, Blue, if we ever debate in German, you can feel free to correct my use of the language.

Just consider the diversions from the 'roots'

I wont look up the english translation for 'specialis'.
The sad truth is that most of us would rather defend our nonsense than admit that we could possibly be in error when it is pointed out. This is what slows the progress of humanity to a slimy snails pace.

wrong relation Everyone can make up any definition But in this case, it seems like an american syndrome of misinterpretation, as the base translation of 'special', really in no way is judgmental or evaluative. So it doesn't relate to your proposed hypothetical transition of perception in regards to ones way of living.

Thanks F_WorksG.
So, I strongly assume, that we inherently are special, no matter how 'externatility' influences us, but are strongly dependent on contextual 'externatility' on and in case of 'importance'.

Moderator edit: This is the third time I have had to act within this thread due to users choosing to ignore the purpose and intention of this forum. We discuss ideas in this forum, and not the personal nature of the individuals posting them.

how can we even begin to judge the overall importance of thing against another, without even putting that into any sort of scope. i'm pretty sure there are different aspects within my self that are more or less important towards my survival. whether or not my survival is important is another thing....but i have to pick something to even talk about the importance of it.

Now I have to do the whoopy who dog trick style and turn my statement around for clarifications of the inheren meaning to be understand.
One's perspective on the general relation of things and their evaluation doesn't change the fact that 'we' are special. This is an objective fact. The 'importance'-factor may vary heavyly due to the context it is regarded in. It mostly is subjective, so has to be questioned all the time to make out the objective value behind of it, which (re-)presents itself mostly in its nearest relations.
