self Doubt - your only real obstacle?

So as I progress through life i find that self doubt, of my abilities, of by capacity to understand, of just my limits.. seems to be more of an issue.

In the past I have always pushed myself to the edge, set and impossible goal and achieve it, thats what I used to say. Lately life has worn me down, now it's "At least try, you'll probably fail but whatever." My question is basically this: is growing older not a passive state, but rather a realization of your limits? you just realize what you can't do, and live. rather than do what is possible in your mind and and live?


What I'm asking is this: I'm getting grown, and for me personally, it was always possibles!!! infinite... but now, after so many failed "dreams" and aspirations... i believe growing older is not about achieving your life goals but rather accepting what you have become.

eh.. whatever...

Acceptance precedes change. Accept yourself, truly accept yourself, and "obstacles" disappear. Any dualism between yourself and your goals is a fabrication of ego. Let things be. Step away from things. Drink a beer and relax. Don't be so judgemental. The self is an idea. Seek self-awareness as opposed to self-consciousness. Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. Or some such. But more importantly, drink a beer.

Growing old is dangerous.

Worry wears you down and then you die.

It's a problem of available energy.

Most make themselves old before there time.

The good news is that it may never be to late to take a risk.

If doubt is what causes us to stress and stress is what causes us to grow old, then be rid of our doubts and replace with hope, with faith, then shall we live forever young. :heart:

I see what you are riddling with.
And it's true. In young times, we have all the dreams and possibilities by our hand. We will get to know the boarders, limits and differences they have with reality as we grow older and want to 'install' our dreams in reality.
The challenge is to not forsake ones dreams, even if the ways seem wicked and twisted while growing older and still go for them in reality. It is about the means one has accumulated in his experience which become better and sharper over time, so it is a constant dance between our dreams and external reality, while there are many crossing-points of them.
The challenge for society is to find the factor that is common behind everyones dreams, but that will only be possible if everyone still has a 'dream' to communicate.

(I use the word 'dream' in a spiritual broader sense)

Sounds like you've hit a bump in the road, so you're focusing on the negative aspects of growing older. As you go along in life, you can also pick up new skills or knowledge and wisdom to help you use the skills you already have.

All that "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" stuff is just bullshit. There's always something more you can learn, no matter what age you are.

Age is just the amount of times the earth goes around the sun.. people lose sight of this truth it seems.

Life is infinite creative play.. if you can overcome your self. So yes, I agree with you.
