Id say Yes! Implicitly! To be free (in a real sense) means that you have overcome all of your internal obstacles and are now liberated from the burdon's of suffering and negative habitual tendencies that you have accumilation. But this is'nt to say that freedom does'nt come without responsibility, becuase when we are free, it is our heartfelt responsibility to help free others (that are seeking to be free) from the same prison of confusions and attachments which give rise to conflicting emotions that create obstacles to our intrinsic happiness free from all conditions, like the dark clouds obscuring the suns rays and essential purity of the deep blue sky.

But the question begs another question. What kind of freedom are you refering to? Are you refering to freedom of desire, or freedom from it? Are you talking about relative, worldly freedom, or basic inner freedom in its wider sense? The question was too vague, but i gave my answer in terms of inner freedom anyway.  :sun:

all I'm saying is that, if you don't want drugs, you are free just as you would be free if you did want drugs and nobody forces you not to use it. Either of the two is real freedom because it feels the same: it feels free

I think you're talking about relative freedom as opposed to absolute freedom.

If you are absolutely free, there are no limitations or obstacles preventing you from doing anything, regardless of whether or not you would do those things.

there is no absolute freedom, you can not reach a distant star in two seconds, you can not touch two people divided by 10 kilometers at the same time, you can not jump over a building.
There is no such thing as absolute freedom, unless you are some kind of a god. We all reach for relative freedom only

Well, i wasn't the one that asked the question, but its basically a very open question that lets you answer any way you choose to. You can interprete "freedom" the way that fits you best, the way that'll make you write a ten page philosophical essay on it

Personally, i talked about both inner freedom (relative to the individual) and wordly freedom (realtive to the place that the individual has in society).

This made me say that to be free is to be aware (because if you don't know what you're actions are based on then you're more of a slave), and also that being free means being autonomous (meaning the people are the ones who make the laws, and therefore they decide of their own freedom, and not some dictator).

I didn't think exclusive was referring only to humanity's scope of freedom.

I suppose knowledge of limitations and knowledge that transcends limitations are in the direction of freedom.

You can't interpret freedom. That's the problem with this thread. Freedom is freedom. It has only distinct meanings as a word of the English language, as defined by our dictionaries. If you want to define a new concept that's similar to the word freedom, then call it gorblesneck or whatever. But freedom is a concept with a strict definition. What does freedom mean to me, is like asking, what does purple mean to me.

freedom is a philosophical notion, and the whole problem is trying to give meaning to it, trying to define it. thats what we're all implicitly doing. there are many different interpretations of it, and the one that's in the dictionary is something that we can discredit immediately because it is not conceivable. don't stick to the "strict definition" that the dictionary gives you.

to make it easier for you, the question behind the question is this:
What are the obstacles that refrain us from being free?

if you're interpretation of freedom is absolute freedom, then you would say that the obstacles are physical.

but there are many different ways that you can interpret "freedom", and THAT's the most important.
