Non-defined objects do not exist

First let me preface: unnamed objects, such as an undiscovered species of lizard certainly may exist, but do not confuse that with the topic at hand.

This is so amazingly simple; yet so many struggle with it.

If I say "Gnargwhomps are amazing!" and you reply, "WTF is a gnargwhomp?" Then I follow with "Gnargwhomps are different depending on whom you talk to, where they are in life and what their current emotional state is." "Yeah, but what IS it?" "Well if you are so closed off, I cannot explain it to you, but you will know when when you meet one." "One what?" "Gnargwhomps permeate space-time and are everywhere and nowhere." "Um, OK... thanks for clarifying."

And so on. Does this sound silly? Something without boundaries or characteristics that is changable and without substance can hardly be said to exist.

Allthougt, I'm probably comming from the oposite side of this, I agree with you on this because all this misticism is what made all those paranormal theories unbelivable in the first place.

If someone said that a fairy is a biological creature with wings like a bird that lives there and there and eats that and that, people would be more openminded regarding the existence of fairies

Instead, when it comes to things like ghosts and stuff like that, people say stuff like: "they can not be explained", "they are out of reach of science" , "they are supernatural" etc.
No wonder why majority of population is apriory determined that such things don't exist. It's because nobody provided them a reasonable and logical explanation for them.

A definition MUST precede an explanation, else no one will have ANY idea what one is talking about. Communication requires some commonality. A purely personal defintion cannot be communicated.

This is why I am never able the answer the impossible question of "Swami, do you believe in God?"

Well it seems to me this strugge between beliefs is going into circles..

1. you want to have a clear definition because you expect they invented it so they could surely define it

2. there is no definition because nobody is sure of specifics, they only remember what they heard

3. you understand that as them being unsecure about their OWN concepts, so you take them less seriously

etc etc

I understand what you are saying and the confusion and frustration runs across the board. You talked about the gnargwhomp like it was common knowledge to you. It's not to me. You could explain until you were blue in the face and I wouldn't "get it" . Sounds like something I would have to experience for myself.

So say I did one afternoon and came back to you and said , "Swami, yes yes, the gnargwhomp is so amazing. Then we would be in joy toether realting the amazing experience of knowing the gnargwhomp. We would also look crazy :nut:to the ones around who have not yet experienced the gnargwhomp.

Did you and I need a new language to talk about it once we experienced it? No. Would a new language help someone who hasn't experienced it yet understand why and how it is so amazing to us? No

Sooooooooo what do we do here when people talk about frempnads and glictords and we have no freaking clue what they are experiencing?
