Esoteric martial arts can indeed by practiced as a sport, and frequently is worldwide. But in Esoteric martial arts the emphasis is not placed on competition, rather it is on the development of the awareness of Qi force and how it related to our condition of body and mind!

My father's system of Qi gong is practiced soley for the healing of oneself and others.

Basically your view of martial arts is a very limited one as its based on purely the competitive exoteric styles such as Karate and Tai-Quon-Do, and completely ignores such esoteric styles as Akita, which has no external system of punches and kicks to damage others and is solely centered on the redirection of the opponents chi to disable him with minimum harm and maximum efficiency whilst developing an awareness of chi force.
Many masters of this art claim that they can sense an opponents qi-force well before an attack is made there by detecting an imminent attack and easily avoiding harm to oneself or the opponent.

You should thoroughly research all martial arts before making such gross generalizations based on your limited view!

You have seen what you thought to be telekinesis. Why would someone show you, turn down a million dollars and keep the most amazing ability secret? *hint* The exact same reason everyone has failed the Swami Telekinesis Challenge!

I've practiced martial arts all my life and never wanted to show off my skill,I've never been in a fight ever.
Please look up the word "martial".*hint* It means related to combat. Wouldn't that be great if we all spent a lifetime developing skills to not display them. Michaelangelo should have painted over the Sistine Chapel with whitewash when he was finished. Vladimir Horowitz should not have played Carnegie Hall after practicing 6 hours a day for decades. The Beatles should have stayed in their garage. Too bad Edison, Ford, Marconi, Tesla and others didn't just keep their silly inventions to themselves. Those damn Olympians just showing off every four years!

Or perhaps amazing talent is actually meant to be shared...

I'm fully aware of the definition of martial.My sensei always taught us how to fight but how not to fight,and should an attacker arise we would know how to handle the situation.

I'm a very compassionate person and hate to see how devastating i could be if i were to unleash my wrath.over the years of training you develop a warrior spirit that would scare the shit out of some people to just look this warrior spirit in the eyes.Sometimes that is enough to turn attackers away.

breaking boards without touching them would be an example of telekinesis.this is what can be accomplished through years of Qi Gong training.it all depends on where there training is directed healing,combat,psychic abilities or whatever.

Its ones beliefs that limit there ability.

Recently i witnessed somebody stab my father full force 9 inch blade.

Getting stabbed doesn't seem like sensing an attack before it happens. Oh wait, the key word is "claim"

My dad's training was predomenantly in the exoteric style of Shotokan Karate, As such he developed many coarse Qi abilities such as Iron Fist and Iron Shirt!

Now his main focus with Qi-gong is healing himself and others but these coarse developments still remain from his extensive training.

I wasnt refering to my dad as an exaple of esoteric martial abilities!

Has anyone on this board heard of the Gracie brothers, Gracie ju-jujitsu or the Gracie challenge perhaps. Basically the Gracie family took japenese ju-jitsu and modified it into an efficient, deadly form of grappling that trancended all the bull shit spouted in the majority of martial arts styles. To fully perfect and prove the efficiency of grappling the Gracies then issued a challenge inviting martial artists from around the globe to spar with them in Brazil (The UFC was an offset of this challenge). The gracies went virtually undefeated, even against opponents that were much larger then them. Since then all competitors in mixed martial art competitions have trained in some off-shoot of BJJ.

BJJ brought martial arts back to what the were orginally intended for, controlling and submitting/injuring an opponent. Breaking boards and learning stylized "deadly" attacks that cannot be effictively practiced make for a great show not a great fighting system.

Why is giving a demonstration in some backwoods Chinese town for a few pennies more noble and less egoic than a larger stage and a larger purse?

China is a much larger stage than the USA. Insert condescending remark on American tendency to believe they are the center of the universe... here.

Pardon me while I ignore both the claims and point out to swami that these are two different people and it's silly to try and use one statement as a contradiction of somebody else's statement. It's only a violation of logic if these statements were made by the same person.

But back to the discussion:

The world is a very small place today.
Do you think it's safe to say that we've witnessed every amazing skill a human can develop on prime time? Aren't you working with an assumption that a million dollars (or whatever) can draw out anybody?

Or perhaps amazing talent is actually meant to be shared...
With this and some other statements of yours you seem to be saying that an 80 year-old defeating a 25 year-old beefed out karate kid in unarmed combat on TV could change the world or better it or something. This could be true in some ways, but I find it important to point out how martial arts and qi gong require direct transmission from a high level practitioner. This can't be done in huge numbers. Books, videos, and the internet can't replace hands-on experience.

Tai Chi spread massively and most people, even lots who practice it, don't even know it's a martial art. There are very few who teach the "real thing."
