Max Headroom said:
Are all humans inherently bisexual? I think almost all people can tell whether another person of their gender is attractive or not. But does this imply that they are at some level sexually attracted to them? Or is it purely aesthetic?

The reason I bring this topic up because I was lurking on the Overgrow forums and saw this question:

(Assuming you are a guy...)
"If your life depended on it, would you rather:
1) Have sex with a trim, 20-something year old, attractive man
2) A fat, 80-something, ugly as hell elderly woman
3) Die for not doing either"
If you're a girl, just switch the guy for a girl and the elderly woman for an elderly man.

Bisexuality was an accepted part of ancient cultures, the most popular probably being Greece. Is homophobia actually a modern-day result of denying one's bisexuality?

Thats just a hypethetical question, and no I dont think all people are BiSexual because what would you do if you had to choose from the following:

1) Eat a fresh steaming human shit for 10,000$
2) Die if you didnt

If everyone picked #1, does that mean everyne likes eating shit?

See what I mean ?

I wonder, does anyone know whether bisexuality is more common in either gender?

In today's society, I would wager that bisexuality(at least open bisexuality) is far more common in women than in men. However, if this were a different society with different standards, then that might not be the case.

At it's root, sexuality is ALL about reproduction (and in rare cases - a show of dominance in the pecking order in primates); as I cannot successfully mate with a man, there is no drive to do so.

"But Swam, what if your woman is sterile or if either of you are using "protection", then where is the drive?"

This instinctual drive lies deep within the limbic brain and is not subject to rational thought (though it may be behaviorily overridden, the desire remains).

Ok, then how do you explain the existence of homosexual desires in certain individuals?

I would theorize that homosexual individuals were born with different brain chemistries that allow them to be more receptive to male pheremones rather than such chemistry with females. Just as anybody can be born with different physical features... anybody can be born with different psychogenic features.

That gene is still very theoretical and it sounds a little like Nazi science to me. If it is true however, I would hypothesise that only some gay people have it while others may not.

without reading the entire thread:

humans are capable of relations with any other human, whether that be sexual or non sexual. I expect it is possible for anyone of the same gender to have sexual desires for someone else of the same gender, given the right circumstances.

This comes up so constantly.. I can't count the number of arguments I've had over this topic.

NO, all people are NOT bisexual, and in fact I would go so far as to say that claiming that they are is merely one's way of rationalizing their own beliefs and desires. Not neccessarily homosexual desires, but some sort of crazy feel-good world view where everybody genuinely loves everyone else, sexually. It's entirely possible to love somebody and not have that be sexual.. unless you make love to your mother? Obviously that's a definition of love that's long gone out of style when referring to people, but that's a shame because it seems there's a lot of people that are very confused and unable to seperate sexual attraction from the relative physical attractiveness of somebody or from simply enjoying the company of somebody as a friend.

There's a WORLD of difference between acknowledging that somebody is attractive, and BEING attracted to them.

And what I mean by that.. is that if Guy X is ugly, and Guy Z is nice looking, hey know what? Guy Z looks nice. Of course, exactly how nice is something I personally don't give a damn about.. I save that scrutiny for women.

And under no circumstances does admitting that Guy Z's a decent looking fellow mean I want to stick a big one up his backside, or even be physically intimate or close in any way.

In fact every time somebody claims all people are bisexual, and if you don't admit it you're just lying to yourself, I really have to supress an urge to smack them in the face. Not in anger, but for their own good, because that's such an ARROGANT statement to make.

You don't know what all people like. And if we're to believe you, most people don't even know what THEY like -- or won't admit it! Yet somehow you've seen a magical window that has let you see the secret desires in all our hearts, and that desire encompasses getting sweaty and sticky with people of our own sex?

No.. you can only find out what YOU like. Don't claim to know what I or anyone else's sexual preference is.

And don't assume you'll have gay people back you up either -- I've certainly met a few that get every bit as outraged at the accusation as I have and do. It's simply stupid.

You think you might kinda sorta be sexually attracted to guys? Hey, great, good for you, and feel free to explore that any way you see fit -- I have no problems with that. Have a blast and may you discover what you're seeking.
Don't try and claim that if you don't embrace your homosexual side that you're somehow lying to yourself and suppressing a normal part of humanity.

Let's rephrase this somewhat and see if it still makes sense.

Do all people like beer?
I say that all people do like beer, and if they say they don't, they're merely suppressing a normal and natural desire that resides within all humans and they are only decieving themselves.

Obviously not all people like beer. Some people do but prefer liquor, some don't really care so long as they get drunk, and some won't touch liquor but'll drink beer like it's going out of style. And some people don't drink at all.

I'm pretty sure there's parts of this that don't make sense.. i'm goin to bed and too tired to give it a once-over. just understand that if i left any half-finished sentences.. or rambled off and jumped back and forth horribly bad, which i am pretty sure i did. tiredness disclaimer over.

Freud assumed that we all were bisexual in nature, but of course, on a sliding scale, so-to-speak. All that means is that we are all capable of some degree of infatuation with the same sex, which happens quite innocently in early adolescence, as when 11 year old Little Leaguers walk off the playing field with their arms around each other's shoulders. If one was to suggest to either of them that that behavior means that they wish to suck or f**k one another, they would probably come after you with their Lousiville Sluggers!

I can appreciate the lines of a handsome male model, but I have never fantasized about a male in any of my multi-million sexual fantasies in the last 35 years. Admiration for a 'more perfect' male body translated for me into the enhanced ability to attract females. I have friends even from childhood who feel degrees of admiration that are accompanied by degrees of sexual attraction.

On another level, the Conjunctio Oppositorum is a central philosophical feature of my life. It is an ancient alchemical term symbolized by the Sun and Moon overlapping, and which has to do with the recovery of fullness and balance and Enlightenment through the integration of masculine and feminine principles. The unconscious of the heterosexual male is feminine, and the unconscious of the heterosexual female is masculine. When a man and woman are in a deep spiritual relationship, it is like there are four beings present, and their interactions can result in a higher being which alchemically was symbolized by the mythic being Hermaphroditus - the offspring of Hermes [Mercury] and Aphrodite - Consciousness and Sexual love - represented as partaking of both male and female anatomy, but symbolizing that spiritual wholeness that Enlightenment consists in. Like the Yab-Yum statues of Tibet, the representations of copulating couples symbolize Wisdom [feminine] interpenetrated by Compassion [masculine] aspects of Reality.

Bottom line: my outer life is lived as a heterosexual male, but my inner life incorporates as much of feminine nature as to complete my psyche - not too little resulting in a 'macho' attitude, and not too much resulting in an 'effete' or 'effeminate' nature. This is not bisexuality but 'spiritual androgeny' and wholeness [holiness).

Come on, Freud wasn't normal, and the people he studied weren't normal. I think that sexual preference is, at some point in our lives, simply a concious decision one makes based on their personal judgement. We have control over who we are, but many people conciously make this decision and delude themselves into thinking that they were made that way. The world is as you dream it.

If Freud had abnormalities, much of it can be chalked up to his cocaine addiction, initiated by his 36 surgeries on his jaw for cancer due to his cigar addiction! Some of Freud's theories are flawed by social biases, but the core metatheories still describe those psychologies which are grounded in the anal-genital (Root Chakra of Tibetan Buddhist Yoga) region.

Our "object choice" is not determined by conscious decision. If I am turned on sexually by slender-but-busty females, no amount of conscious decision-making is going to change my object choice to muscular men. As to homosexual men, there is evidence of differences in brain anatomy, with certain organelles in subcortical regions of the limbic system being more characteristically 'female' than male. I have a friend with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder who insists that he is a female lodged in a male body. It is a fixed idea, like he had a 'spirit' archaically speaking. So, one can also look at this transgenderism psychologically and spiritually. For him, after 18 years of inquiry, it does not look like he has a choice regardless of the model one employs.

homosxuality is just a denial of the nature process, i believe its selfish unless of course it has love involved but i've seen for the most part, homosexuality is more about sex than love,.. what good does two men or women being together serve nature? no reproduction, you serve your self, hence my selfish veiws on it.i dont say it is wrong though, just un-natural.. but wut ever cranks your tractor.. i do un-natural shit all the time, but fuck who am i to say anything.
