Re: Are all people bisexual? [Re: Muppet]

I've never heard of or met a gay person who is freaked out by gay sex. Some evidence would be interesting.

well,
those who openly admit to being gay are much likelier to have accepted it in its entirety. Mostly, with what I've said, I'm talking about those brought up in repressive systems which discourage homosexuality. The disgust they have was brought in via society.

so in your mind - anyone that feels a sort of platonic bond with another individual of the same sex would be considered gay...even if there is never any desire between the two of them to become intimate

No.

In my mind, if you cannot fall in love with a woman and are a man, you're gay. "fall in love" can only be described as "a real spark" in this case, where you lose all ability to think and act head over heels. Of course, youre asking about in my mind.. In my mind this stands true because I have never, ever been able to feel any kind of "spark" with a male. I have repeatedly had such a spark ( whether i should have is a different matter, but whatever ) with some girls.

Some men cannot fall in love with a woman or a man but that makes them asexual, not gay. Sexuality ultimately boils down to...sex :P

I think that striaght people are attracted to the same sex, but instead look for different qualities, such as behavior, ethics, and overall if you get along with the person. Think about how some girls in there 11-14 years olds age, want more to be friends with girls than to have a intimate relationship with a guy? And guys too, most of us stayed away from the opposite sex when we were kids, that doesn't mean we all turn out to be gay...On the other hand a young boy may feel pressured by social issues to grow up and have a 'girlfriend', this usually ties in with feeling the need to be accepted by your parents, you see them having a relationship with a person of the opposite sex and monkey see monkey do.
Overall i would say i like the whole percentage thing, it makes sense. Some people are physically attracted to say one or too qualities of the same sex, but overall are more attracted to have sexual relationships with people of the opposite sex. Also to add some insight, i think it has to do with smell and energy alot of the time. This makes chemical reactions in the brain and stimulate sexual feeling. Over time i think we all go through some point in our lives, (especially men its been proven) where we contemplate our sexuality, could be a phase or could be curiosity, its hard to be clear cut on what it trully is.

take it ez and enjoy life!!

Attractiveness is based entirely on symetry. Who we are attracted to is largely instinctive and a symetrical face is a sign of good genes.

Homosexuality would be detrimental to the growth of a species so I'd be tempted to say a disgust of it is largely instinctive as well.

Both of these things can be made overidden by psychological problems. (fetishes etc.) Maybe it's the price we pay for having such big brains.

Homosexuality in ancient greece and rome was largely because it was such a male dominated society. They thought that the male form was the most perfect things in nature so who better for a lover. Women where relegated to kitchen and baby duty.

"I think almost all people can tell whether another person of their gender is attractive or not."

Maybe that's because our ideas of attractiveness do not come from within but rather without. Isn't it odd that so many unique people in our society have a strikingly similar idea of an "attractive" person. We are spoonfed our own sexual desires.

Well, if you look at a lot of ancient societies, they didn't have a concept of homosexuality vs. heterosexuality like we do today. In ancient Rome, it was commonplace for a married man to have sex with his male slaves. There was no stigma against this. It was simply seen as him using his property. However, if he was on the recieving end, then it would be considered scandalous. Anyway, to answer your question, I think that most people, if brought up in an environment where it was considered more acceptable and even the norm, would probably live a bisexual lifestyle.

if my life depended on it?

dude people would to lots of shit that they wouldn't ever do normally "if their lives depended on it."

Would you kill a hamster if your life depended on it? I would, but I'm not a hamster killer man....

And by the way I would bone the old woman. Sex with another man just seems weird to me personally, but hey if somebody else wants to fuck the guy, or even marry him, I don't care; go for it

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

Human sexuality is a continuum, not a dichotomy of straight and gay. Everyone finds sexual arousal in a unique set of stimuli that changes every moment, just like our personalities. "Straight" and "Gay" are just social labels that people buy into, not some kind of natural law or pattern of sexuality.

When it comes down to it, humans enjoy pleasure, especially sexual pleasure. Given a lack of social expectation, humans would fuck a slimy hole in the ground if it felt good.

You are implying that humans instinct is to look out for the whole species. I disagree. Human instinct as far as I have observed it is to look out for yourself. Its the same with all animal species. If it were instinctual for people to view homosexuality as disgusting then it there would not have been societies in the past that embraced it freely.

.. except that roughly 10% of animals are homosexual
and, arguably, they( at least a good number of species ) have little but instinct.

Just because something seems like a good evolutionary idea, it does not have to be true.

I have heard suggestions that homosexuality is actually an evolutionary mechanism to keep populations from getting out of control.

I think that all (well, almost all) people are inherently sexual. Bi-sexuality is just another variation on the theme.

--------------------
To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

I wonder, does anyone know whether bisexuality is more common in either gender?
