Trump won by default.  The one thing Biden needed to do, was quell concerns about his age.  He did not, with his raspy voice and stalling out and fumbling for words.  It may be unfair, but Biden is judged against a higher expectation than Trump.  It is what it is, presidential debates are not really debates, they are mostly chances to get quality sound bites and score a few points with witty retorts.  Trump did that, Biden didn't and that is what most people saw.
