When he was potus he slid in his own direction alright, bidens tweaked the crumbs for a facade of appeal with intent to never rock the status quo boat, but he ain't looking to win right now imo. If the general were held right now, polls don't swing in his favour.

I think the question here is about where the US will slide if trump slides back into the drivers seat and he's pretty much yelling iceberg ahead.

If not him, someone will show up to the stage, last minute.

Even if I said 3 years, it is absolutely hilarious that people try to pretend that Trump doesn't have any influence on our current political situation. The entire republican party has shifted away from any kind of platform, into simply backing trump. The right-wing movement we see today is a result of the trump presidency.

Pretty sure the DNC is closing off the primaries, but if anyone else was ran as the democratic nominee I think they'd have a better chance.

At this point Biden's being propped to run, he even said if trump wasn't running he wouldn't. And imo, at this point, without some drastic change or majorly positive policy, trump beats Biden hands down.

You seem to say that Trump has managed to steer the country towards dictatorship for the past 4 years when the POTUS is clearly someone else.  You need to back that up.  It is totally reasonable of me to doubt you.  Yes Trump can have an influence, but I doubt he, not being POTUS, can contribute much to the country turning totalitarian.

And I think it's when he's re-elected he'll turn the country that kind of way.

I mean the whole split in the republican side of the house is related to those supporting trump with election denial allegations and such, and those who think it won't muster strong support etc.

I am not saying he has zero influence.  Just that when that other guy said he made the country more totalitarian, he needs to prove that.  I think such a thing is more likely attributed to the incumbent president, who makes policies.

OK. I can step in on this one.
He tried a fake elector plot.
He literally stole mailboxes from black neighborhoods. To make it much harder, if not impossible for people to cast their vote in Democratic areas.
He incited an insurrection in our country against the peaceful transfer of power.
He withheld secret documents that weren’t found.
Probably selling those off to people.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

All of those things sound like something that would happen in Russia.
Because all of those things have happened in Russia.

He also tried to insight a lot of distrust in the healthcare system.
He waged a war against newscasters that had a different opinion than him.
He’s doing a lot of the totalitarian playbook actually.
I do not want to see his updated playbook.

It's that he will turn it into such a country, and I think so because he said he will and he proposed policy to do it.

He kept the status quo of the republican party upright with tax cuts for the rich and deregulations etc. But if he's elected again, he said he'll do crazy shit with project 2025 etc.

Right now it's the same shit it's always been with a thin dressing of incrementalism to satiate the masses.

But people want more change, and frankly it doesn't seem like it matters in what direction that changes takes form.

Or atleast, a lot of voters probably don't go beyond the surface level of what they're being told by legacy media sources. The policy implications of trumps proposed platform won't help people outside of the upper echelons of society.

At least trump seems to recognise the craving for change, regardless of what outcomes it would have for those outside of his immediate circle if he were to be re-elected.

If this does happen, it’ll be after the convention. Biden will be crowned the nominee, then step down due to health concerns or something, and they’ll choose Newsom.

Newsom sucks too, but they don’t really have anyone else. They tried to sell Buttigieg and Harris as the next generation of Democrats and everyone hates them. At least Newsom has the aura of being progressive.
