No, I have tried two extracts so far. One was an unmarked batch from a local brew shop, the new one is Munton's Extra Light spraymalt which is the brand everyone sells.

The munton's came out like this (2%, 45mins @ 17-18psi)




Something's up, I'll get to the bottom of this one way or another.


My LME does the exact same thing, best I've done is boil and strain through cheesecloth, its a pain. I've tried different brands, times, in the water out of the water, pre-boil no pre-boil, idk.  On my last batch I just let it settle as much as possible and tried to disturb the silt as little as possible and just didn't poor the last 100ish ml... feels bad

Just trying out my new glass petri's for the first time - I figure I only really have two sleeves going at once and my last lot of 500 are nearly out. Also I was disappointed as a lot of the plastic dishes seem to have had gotten damaged in transit. We use enough plastic in this hobby as it is so anyway to try and cut down figured it would be worth it. Will eventually pay for itself providing I don't break any.



Was a bit of a pain to wrap in foil - rekon the sleeves the plastic ones come in would be good in the PC?

This is also the first time I've ever done any kind of no pour.

Its the agar I messed up doing SSLC (ended up super solid not semi semi solid :facepalm3:) diluted it with some water I used to hydrate some straw(grass) from a pan grow to see what happen. Also the first time I ever used food colouring of any kind.

i hope you like the glass petris dude!! once you get used to them i think they feel really nice

when i wrap mine with foil, i’ve been doing one piece on the bottom & another on the top instead of wrapping the whole stack in one piece (if that makes sense) which has made the wrapping & unwrapping job a lot easier. glass & pp5 petris aren’t super prone to contam even when left out completely unwrapped so it doesn’t have to be a crazy tight seal with the foil or anything, especially if they are going straight into an SAB or flowhood. but you want some rigidity bc glass is very prone to sliding around in stacks ime so idk that i’d use a plastic sleeve unless you could ensure it wouldn’t topple over. other option is finding some autoclavable containers to stack em in vs foiling. you can def jerry rig some shit out of pp5 containers or get actual petri racks that eliminates having to use foil at all & will give you a rigid container to keep them a bit more safe from getting knocked over than a loose stack of plates (you can probs store on the shelf in the foil until use as well tho if you continue to use foil)

Splitting and cracking on the wrapped dish?
If so let it relax just a little after you stretch it, then wrap it, and it should stop cracking and splitting

My agar started growing whispy growth after changing brands of brewing yeast powder due to delivery being faster. Should I be able to go back to my normal brand and have normal growth again?

I'm liking glass petris so far, but still fighting condensation.

For a container I was thinking about rigging something with aluminum snap-lock conduit. You'd have to cut it down to size and figure out a top and a bottom but that seems manageable since it's not supposed to seal tightly anyway.

Unfortunately my hardware store doesn't carry 5" diameter which I need for my 100 mm dishes. 4" is just a little bit too small since my lids are actually a little over 100 mm.
