Maz plate going ham, plates in order form transfers, crazy how it can go from rizo back to tom so drastically. ApeXpf(wiz)plate acting crazy, I've had nearly invisible growth before, but it's almost taken over the plate with myc you can only see at an angle catching light on the surface. Atl7 germ plates. Reishi tf05 killing.
Nt is nice tat, loving that, it's so tometose it raised almost 1/3" up off the surface I would bet, comparable to oyster myceliums and others

Yes it is. I take a few and set them to the side to see if they germinate something that shouldn't be there. And to cool my scalpel. No transfers for sure with the one I'm holding.

First ones wierd, going to need a couple more transfers probably. Hjenstly I've found with those feathery looking cultures they're usually ass also, kind of like scalloped cultures, you might be able to clean and fruit but they usually suck if they don't turn around after a couple transfers.
The second one looks better but makes me wonder the strain and your agar recipe?
LM looks fine, and it actually looks really good, unless it turns absolutely green in the next couple days ha. Looks kinda fluffy for LM but looks good. I'm guessing your transfer was rolling around or something. Looks like an interesting LM strain even, only a couple LM strains I've had forms mycelium like that in the beginning. Unless maybe your colonizing your agar below 69F maybe, in those cases I have seen fluffier LM growth more commonly.

It's consistently 17C (62F) overnight and only just above 21C right now (69.8F) - so I expect that may be why. It certainly did roll around, hence the pattern.

Alright thanks for your input, I shall keep going with the LM, and somewhat ignore the wispy mexicana dish. I'm used to stronger growth so maybe I'll just wait for more opportunities to germinate

Finally I had an LM culture knocking about (which I didn't manage to grow on grain, and switched in agar in part to find out why) - I'm assuming this is nothing good:

Well, the above grew into this:

I've got no experience with LM so assuming I can wait a few more days and tx that out to some millet grain

anyway just an update...

Looks good all around. Was that from clone or another culture, LC or?
Maybe even getting some pins in the center, some strains are prone to that

It’s a LC bought online which I was 50/50 on and couldn’t grow previously on grain, kept in fridge for 4 weeks while I worked on other mushrooms, thought it might be contaminated in some way, but it doesn’t show that on agar so assume I should be good to go. Hopefully it will grow on millet

How the progress looking? It seems to be colonizing real slow (inoculated around 3/25/22). Do I have to wait for full colonization?

Working on my first clones. B+, less than ideal flushes, started with MSS (MSS>A>A>oats), cloned the best 4-5 mushrooms. Transferring these to new plates today. The pics without tomentose are from a few days ago.

Leggy boi:

Shots from today:

Bonus; I also made my first spore prints. I'm stoked.

Second dish was another aerial transfer from a germinated dish which also didn't look too hot - the color is concerning me?

Hi Astro! I'm still a newbie so can't offer much advice. I can comment from personal experience on the second photo, though, in regards to the color. If it helps: the mycelium usually sucks the food dye out of my blue agar plates. So if it's specifically the reddish/orange color you're worried about, it looks to me like it's just the food dye being extracted/consumed.

Ahh that would make some sense - it hangs about for a while and then gets consumed as the myc goes deeper or sucks it up! thank you. Do other colors suffer less from being eaten?

You can always get black plates by adding activated charcoal instead of food coloring.. it will stay black as the mycelium grows
