The government and the catholic church are both controlling institutions. The former leads with the social/economical/material aspects of life, the later with the religious/spiritual aspects of life.
When both meet and try to control you, then you have to choose between being fully controlled, break with one of those or break with both.
Religion is the weak outcome of man spirituality, which let her spirit fall to the ground to be manipulated and diverted by the material realm.

Quote:

I am the escaped one

I am the escaped one,
After I was born
They locked me up inside me
But I left.
My soul seeks me,
Through hills and valley,
I hope my soul
Never finds me.

As a moral Catholic, one is not supposed to support a candidate that allows abortion, but it is apparently OK to support a candidate who believes in killing adults.

Last I remember, the Pope came out against the Iraq war.  I know from my readings that there are Catholics who take their moral positions seriously and as a consequence are against both and will not support George Bush, nor will they support John Kerry (of course it seems that the vast majority of Christians pick and choose what teachings of Christ to live by based upon the convenience or inconvenience of applying his teachings to their lives).  Being against a candidate because he is pro abortion, is not the same as being for a candidate who is pro war.  I do not know if the Church has come out in support of any candidates, could you please direct us to any links that would provide such information?

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

I think president bush tried to sway voters, (praying on their weakness's once again), with his whole giving the medal of honor to the pope. Sway the catholic pro lifers as well?

It was on Fox News I believe. Seems a Bishop from Massachusetts told parishioners that they were sinning by their votes if their candidate supported women's right, but did not specifically endorse any candidate.
