Boy, do I love the taste of weakness in the evening. :satansmoking:

Once again, starting a post with logical fallacies, you got a gift it seems, Tripsten.

Resulting to flaming me and ad hominem logical fallacies doesn’t help you stand in this forum, nor will it in any other place or capacity unless you intend on continuing to sloppily throw what you have between your ears around in a sordid attempt to bully your way into some illusory sense of correctness or dominance or whatever bestial impulse I suspect to be motivating you. I'd have thought your ratings ought to be lesson enough for you in these matters.

You’ve still provided nothing of substance and grossly misrepresented what I've said in classic straw man fallacy fashion, think Tripsten, if what you're saying is a gross misrepresentation of what I'm saying and you either lack the capacity to or refuse to acknowledge your fallacy, that's it, it's done.
If I was interested in discussing what else you said, I would have refuted it; its inconsequential to what I've addressed and you can delude yourself into some self congratulation by fallaciously connecting the unrelated, but it makes no difference.

Your reading comprehension skills are clearly more than severely lacking, and your lack of culture and awareness of the rules not only of this forum but of philosophical debate don't make well for anything resembling an actual debate or intelligent discussion with you.

It’s quite obvious now you have not read the rules of this forum or are genuinely familiar with what logical fallacy is at all, your responses to me are rife with them and are a perpetual straw man fallacy, giving me literally nothing to respond to with you at this point even if I'd like to in terms of the topic at hand.

The level of psychological projection and deflection on your behalf here is amusing at best.

You’d be wise to familiarize yourself with logical fallacies and the rules of this forum, though it seems far from debatable at this juncture that you have some issues with reading and have some trouble taking the time to actually read, let alone grok what it is you’re reading but, I genuinely do have faith in you, there is a link at the top of the forum with not only the rules, but a nifty little thread to help neophytes like yourself get a handle on what a logical fallacy is and I've even hyperlinked the threads for you so you have less excuse.

If you can’t handle having your B.S. being called out and your weak refutations and logical fallacies picked apart and mirrored back to you without throwing a temper tantrum and attacking and flaming me, Tripsten, you don’t belong in this forum.

Been a pleasure engaging with your fragmented, fractured and opaque masks, Tripsten.

“I love the taste of weakness in the evening”
“Your ratings should have been lesson enough”
“It’s far debatable that you have issues with reading”
Lol talk about an ego problem
Would these then not be fallacies by your own definitions and the ones I read ? Of course not cause your never wrong to yourself are you ?
You just sound like a triggered hypocrite
Point dodgeball you like everything your saying is literally what your doing
Projecting the thigns you dislike about your own arguing styles into others lol
Think what you want of me

I argued back to all of the points of the actual discussion
Your the only one spending your entire posts dodging and talking about the thigns about me you don’t like. 😂
But ok lol
I’m fact I had an answer for every argument you gave to my original post and you still have yet to even jokingly make a point towards any of them
So I’m definitely not worried
Hide behind whatever you want and avoid the discussion however you like cause in reality that’s how it went

You even went as far as insisting I said Jewstress was ignorant.

It was implied with the first line of your last stanza" :flowstone:

Once again, a marked lack of reading comprehension skills on your behalf.

There was no stanza, it isn't even a poem.
Even if I waxed poetic in my attempt to transliterate what I was trying to describe, it doesn't make it a poem.

Not only can you, the reader or listener not dictate what a speaker or writer meant by what they said or wrote, there is a difference between implying something and claiming something. To which I did neither and you've failed to prove and simply cannot, it's just literally not there, you can only continue to engage in your numerous straw man fallacies, and fallacies in general.

I've repeatedly pointed these out to you, and you continue to deflect and project and overall fail to understand and see.

Just the same as all your other posts
Dodge
And you claimed that belief in what she said was ignorant
Which you did say
Just cause you don’t directly say something doesn’t mean it’s implied but this post was just more dodging
Lol and cringe at that last part cause I misspelled two words on my phone
Yout just have to reach and reach every post
And dodge and dodge
But it still stands you have yet to continue the actual discussion so again
None of this phases me lol
I only call them stanzas because they aren’t paragraphs and I wasn’t sure what else to call them lol

    #25953846 -

This was dumb
The moment you took it away from the actual discussion with this nonsense speculation of other people’s character ( too egoic for me lol )
It became useless
I’ll state it again

If all is one
Which I believe
Then their are , in a sense , “two selves”
There is the ego self which is the character one is playing out in their life, the “John Smith”
And the true self which is every literal thing period

Knowing this mask doesn’t really refer to anything
It is a philisophical paradox and does not exist in my opinion
The fact that society, and ones cultural upbringing and environment deeply correlated to who a person is is irrelevant because those things are apart of the true self and therefore everyone’s ego / character / persona is then formed by the true self
That being said mask is a useless term that truly means nothing and is just a more conveluted and murky way of explaining just that
To say ones true self can never come through is just philosophy porn
Fun to think of and discuss
But holds no factual basis in the real world which is not words or ideas
For ones true self comes through all the time whether they like it or not
For the true self is everything
And our personas ( also apart of the true self ) are shaped by this so the true self comes out through these as well

What many people in this forum meant by they don’t wear masks
Is that they are not different people for different social groups and that their hey maintain the same general persona save for organic life changes which are inevitable but do not intentionally alter their behaviors and mannerisms for different occasions or groups

What is your reply

Re: Do we all wear a "mask" [Re: Raven Gnosis]

What did you mean by that which precedes us?
Quote:
Blindness to the mechanisms and forces that dictate our shape, blindness to the things that precede our every word, our every thought and every emotion that lay unilluminated, sleeping in a perpetual night before dawn, not much unlike our persistent incognizance of our instinct and numb familiarity to pulling air into our lungs, blindness to the eons old monolithic frameworks that precede our every word, action, thought and feeling, do not make us free or void of them.

Ignorance of and denial to that which precedes us, will never make us wiser, or help us forge the symbolic tools and understanding to truly individuate from it, and perhaps if we are wise and powerful enough, breathe new life into it.

I think people are aware of their forethoughts before saying what they say. And an incognisance of our instinct? I think we are often aware of how we feel, even if we struggle to console ourselves of them.

The monolithic frameworks that precede our every word, action, thought and feeling? I'm not sure what this is referring to.

And ignorance and denial to that which precedes us? Like how our behaviours affect others?

I'm struggling to find points and would appreciate if you could help me to find some clarity on this one?

Re: Do we all wear a "mask" [Re: sudly]
    #25953953 -

I genuinely appreciate your asking, Sudly. :sun:

Though waxing poetic, what I am referring to is quite literal and well documented and researched. It's mildly abstruse conceptually though, so the language surrounding it requires almost poetic language.

But ultimately the finer points I was alluding to belong to what most simply and for the sake of ease here, and is called in the psychoanalytic disciplines:  The Unconscious Mind.
Quote:
"The unconscious mind comprises mental processes that are inaccessible to consciousness but that influence judgements, feelings, or behavior (Wilson, 2002). According to Freud (1915), the unconscious mind is the primary source of human behavior. Like an iceberg, the most important part of the mind is the part you cannot see.

Our feelings, motives and decisions are actually powerfully influenced by our past experiences, and stored in the unconscious."

The last sentence of the abstract in this peer reviewed scientific study titled The Unconscious mind states:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2440575/
Quote:
"From this perspective, it is concluded that in both phylogeny and ontogeny, actions of an unconscious mind precede the arrival of a conscious mind—that action precedes reflection."

What I meant by the ignorance and denial to that which precedes us is either or both ignorance to, or lying to and deluding oneself in regards to the reality "that action precedes reflection."
To many people, I've found they feel like this implies they are in essence automatons with no self control, but that's not the case at all. The reality of our circumstances just are not as simple and superficial as they may seem to ourselves.

One of the things I find most stark about and illuminates precisely what I'm talking about, is its role in PTSD.

A great deal of veterans with PTSD do not have it because of what they saw or what happened to them, but because of what they did.

To keep it simple, it's intensely traumatic because they did not know or think that they were capable of some of the horrifying things they did, and struggle to accept and integrate that as themselves, because its not a reflection of who they are or what they thought themselves capable of, it having originated in the unconscious makes this all the more difficult, confusing and traumatic.

In certain cases, this causes these veterans to feel themselves as fake, false, unreal and/or only wearing a mask in which hides this monster who they never knew they were, causing a struggle of duality of sorts that some never come to terms with and consequentially manifests in horrific ways like with this Vietnam veteran who executed a police officer on a highway in Georgia.
(Warning: this is a very graphic video)

On a side note to that, I ask anyone who happens to be reading this, that if they find themselves talking to a veteran and they have the urge or thought to ask them if they have killed someone, remember having read this, please.

There are a couple fantastic books which thoroughly demonstrate what I mean with veterans in this capacity that are just fantastic and insightful reads in general.
The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma

On killing: The psychological costs of learning to kill in war and society.

Something we can all relate to in this respect is getting angry, and most of us have gotten so angry at some point in which we said or did something impulsive and deeply regretted it afterward, having been out of control.

This old New York times article was written by Richard Alan Friedman, a professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College.
BEHAVIOR; Beyond Anger: Studying the Subconscious Nature of Rage

Hopefully that clarifies it for you, let me know if you got any other questions!

I could respond in full and probably will in time but for now I’ll just leave some points here I’d like to expand on, cus takes time and all.

  • Machivallian intelligence
  • Action preceeds perception (some people say emotion or action)
  • And that I don’t necessarily agree with Jungs claim of inaccessible ‘unconscious’ mental processes (hinting towards unconscious development)

Essentially I’ll just do some more reading and try to hone in on any views I have because there’s a lot going around in all this.

Look forward to reading it!

I don't necessarily agree with or like Jung's claim myself in totality, and wouldn't be apt to consider it if there wasn't a great deal of research done into the subject and further evidence to support it due to its intersection with trauma oriented mental conditions, as well as personal experiences that I'd have to ignore and dismiss.

I love Frans de Waal's work, I'd love to see more research done on Machiavellian intelligence and see enough data emerge to get it out of hypothesis stage and into theory. (Or dismissed if we discover it's bunk)

People are certainly trying!

What is the emotional core of the multidimensional Machiavellian personality trait?
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3717508/

Now Machiavellianism, That's a fantastic subject in relation to masks!

"A prince must imitate the fox and the lion, for the lion cannot protect himself from traps, and the fox cannot defend himself from wolves. One must therefore be a fox to recognize traps, and a lion to frighten wolves. Those that wish to be only lions do not understand this. Therefore, a prudent ruler ought not to keep faith when by so doing it would be against his interest, and when the reasons which made him bind himself no longer exist. If men were all good, this precept would not be a good one; but as they are bad, and would not observe their faith with you, so you are not bound to keep faith with them.”~ The Prince

 bulls-eye, right on the mark

Conflict masks jousting in the fog, but ones a deceiver who lures his prey to the bog, a bog where he knows his quarry will lose all his clothes, make himself naked, vulnerable and exposed. If his prey saw the game and the net he’d have lost all his trust, and then couldn’t have been used as a brush to help clean off my rust. For the masks I wear here have not seen light in years, have grown moss and lichen and were buried by fears- fears of survival and a need to build new, but I’ve returned for my masks and fresh bones I can chew.

Re: Do we all wear a "mask" [Re: Tripsten]

Essentially what I mean by all that is that masks are non existence because these mental structures formed by past and environment IS the ego self , the character I had mentioned
And that there is no true personal self for the true self is in a literal context, that which is all
And so therefore mask is more of a philiosophical party game than an actual thing in the real world in my opinion

However in some ways the “true self” comes through in everyone’s ego for it is formed by the true self and also apart of it as everything else is

People often use the term "snapped". If I plan my girlfriends murder and get caught, I'm punished more than if I catch her in bed with a lover and I "snap", and in a fit of rage kill her. A "crime of passion" is seen as some kind of loss of control, where a planned killing is seen as being in full control. I find the distinction curious. As if there is a level of anger that renders you powerless and handicaps your ability to choose your behavior. I'm not sure there is any evidence for that hypothesis.

well then there is this whole thing about acting out and not wanting to be described as a person who is acting out, and in that way a rage is built; and it is a real rage, but it is a mask just the same.
a very defensive mask. a very angry denial type mask.

maybe that is what he means.

How could that even be mask then if it is real rage , it would be apart of the personality conducting it and then back into the loop
I just think mask is purely philisophical fun
I may be able to go as far as to say perhaps even a metaphor for the fact that people have such different moods according to situation but even then they are alll the self or even the ego they are attatched to for it is just bad definition of self or ego to state it is the one thing all the time
As I stated in my earlier posts organic change is apart of the self
