Do you guys wear a mask?

Of all the things in life, one I enjoy the most is interacting socially, chatting with people and exchanging views, making jokes and the likes. I quickly found out that most people don't like to have their opinions challenged, or questioned , so I gave up getting into arguments with everyone because it made me seem like an ass.
But back to subject, I realized how to put this into words recently. I figured that when I'm in a social setting , with lots of people, I'll act in a way that lets me have the less problems and the most fun. That usually means joking , keeping out of delicate personal subjects . But even though acting this way if simpler in everyday life, when I speak with someone alone, I can take the time to open up and be me. Therefore, most people with which I don't feel like really talking to ( the people I shouldn't bother with) don't really know who I am inside. I was wondering if I was just weird, or if everyone crafts a mask to navigate the social life more easily?
Considering it is morally debatable to change your attitude for people to love you , should I feel bad for not being myself ( even if it's not for the same reasons) around most people ?
Just something I had around my head and I was wondering what you guys ( and gals) thought about it.

Be yourself... If you feel more comfortable "acting" a part in order to fit the play, then do as you please. Don't try and judge yourself based on others. Do what feels best.
I'm the complete opposite. I say exectly what I mean, at all times, no matter who is around. The only exception is children... obviously you shouldn't curse a blue steak around kids!
In social situations, I very often come off as an ass (loud Mr. know it all type), as far as general dumb society is concerned.
But then we arrive back at my original point... I don't judge myself based on others, so I could give a %&!#% about what they think. People who like me, well they like me for who I am... The loud Mr. know it all guy.
I'm also on the misanthropic side, so I probably shouldn't be answering this, but I'm stoned and this caught my eye.

I think society, at least partially, is responsible for superficiality. Being "polity" requires you to override anger and smile when you might want to curse someone the fuck out.
I think you have to wear a mask to be socially acceptable--not as much when you're with your friends, of course.

I think that sums it well. I started questioning people's opinions or not being politically correct. But people are so sensitive they get upset quickly. Being who I really am would mean going a long way to find people with whom I can interact as myself.
On the other hand , I guess the mask can help me chill around more people , and find the worthy ones, easier.

This is the point where some smart alleck steps up with a song on point. So here goes: The MASK by The Fugees:
Have you ever worn the mask one-two one-two, (M) to the (A) to the (S) to the (K) Put the mask upon the face just to make the next day, Feds be hawkin me Jokers be stalking me, I walk the streets and camouflage my identity, My posse in the Brooklyn wear the mask. My crew in the Jersey wear the mask. Stick up kids doing boogie woogie wear the mask. Yeah everybody wear da mask but how long will it last.
[CLEF:] I used to work at Burger King. A king taking orders. Punching my clock. Now I'm wanted by the manager. Soupin me up sayin "You're a nice worker," "How would you like a quarter raise, move up the register" "Large in charge, but cha gotta be my spy, Come back and tell me who's baggin my fries, Getting high on company time." Hell no sirree, wrong M.C. Why should I be a spy, when you spying me, And you see whatcha thought ya saw but never seen. Ya missed ya last move, Checkmate! Crown me King, Hold my 22 pistol whipped him in his face. Hired now I'm fired, sold bud now I'm wired, Eyes pitch red but da beat bop my head Hit the streets for relief, I bumped into the Feds, I got kidnapped they took me to D.C., Have me working underground building missiles for World War III.
[CHORUS:] (M) to the (A) to the (S) to the (K), put the mask up on the face just to make the next day. Brothers be gaming, Ladies be claiming. I walk the streets and camouflage my identity. My posse Uptown wear the mask. My crew in the Queens wear the mask. Stick up kids with the Tommy Hil wear the mask. Yeah everbody wear the mask but how long will it last.
[LAURYN:] I thought he was the wonder, and I was stunned by his lips, Taking sips sipping Amaretto sour with a twist, Shook my hips to the bass line, this joker grabbed my waistline, Putting pressure on my spine trying to get L-Boog to wind, I backed up off him then caught him with five finger to his face, I had to put him in his place, This kids invading my space, But then I recognized the smile, but I couldn't place the style, So many fronts in his mouth, I thought he was the Golden Child, Then it hit me that's Tariq from off the street around Grams. I haven't seeen him since fifteen, when he got booked for doing scams. I tried to walk away but he wouldn't let me leave, He ran up quick behind me asking, "Yo what happened to my nigga Steve?" Steve was like this kid I went with back in Grammar School. I chuckled knucklehead I seen him yesterday he's cool, He's busted, "so who you checking for now?" Probably some intellectual. I kept the conversation straight and he kept trying to make it sexual. Then his old lady tried to play me waved her hands up in my face, Yo I told her check your man cause b**** you acting out of place.
[PRAZ:] 3a.m. in th morning on the Boulevard, I'm still at large engaged with my entourage, me and Godfather and a 67 Dodge. I stepped out the note to post up my guard searching for my car that was stolen from Scotland Yard. My first instinct was to check the chop shop garage. As I rung the bell someone tapped me on my back, I turned around to look it was a rookie in a mask. He said, "I got a itchin' on my trigger, Don't move nigga I'm taking you for murder." See cops got two faces like two laces on my Reeboks. My knees knock as I step back for a claear shot, Well did you shoot him? Naw kid I didn't have the balls, That's when I realized I'm pumpin'too much Biggie Smalls.
Yeah everbody wear the mask but how long will it last.

its forced especially by language language flows in and begins a little fiasco of itself im left by the wayside scattered and abused by it you can try slapping the words into submission but then you really end up playing thier game some are quite adept at it, and sit with thier ornate lingual mask on but its really just words sitting there, structured like primal beasts with acute sensitivity to anticipate the next sentence, the next linguistic form
infact im always feeling possessed, words as the entity or not
anyone else?

Most people do wear masks. I like to watch people without masks talk with people with masks on, it takes me outside my box just a little.

each expression is another mask even these sentences forming are masks of this member ---- the reading of them are masks of those members reading all are masks (mental media with physical expressions)
an animation of masks forms the "illusion of a solid character". each is a gestalt synthesis of expression appropriate to input from senses and memory.

the distinction might be between natural seeming masks and unsuitable masks, or comfortable masks vs. uncomfortable masks. masking is the modus expressiandum

yes its inter-mask prioritization, does your personal mask overpower the incited social mask? If yes, when? Why? And does it eventually succeed in diminishing the influence of a social mask and amplifiying the goals of a personal fasade?
Im beginning to become frightened, you?

good now we can intertwine, begin cocooning immediately and we should be able to meet somewhere between here and epiphinania
(shudder, mask is loosening, his mask is getting closer to revealing my hidden matrix of masks! maybe "I" (as a general mass-mask illusion) should counterpoint his interrogative powers with equal ferocity and demasking acuity!)
Okay well, if everyones expression is on some level a configured pre-developed response reaction as a composite of stimuli and experience, then why are YOU SO GAY!?

Wearing masks is being yourself.... It is part of the multi-facets of who you are as a person.... A different mask for how you feel (mood), and how you feel it to be "appropriate" for that occasion....
I would dare to say that you don't talk to a college professor in the same way that you talk to a baby or a quewt widdo puppy dawg.... Different masks....

all people wear masks... some people are more consistent with their choice of mask and others like to dress up to suit the mood...
underneath all masks lies the truest purest awareness... an egoless state of bliss... and in this state, once all mask fragments are cleared... all people are identical... in Hinduism this is krishna consciousness... the sum of all creation is found in pure awareness...
masks are a tool of relational interaction among consciousnesses... soon to be outdated by the advent of telepathy... for now its nice... its like... wow im A and youre B... youre B relative to my A looks so... so... one letter higher! etc...
the downside to masks is they usually have adhesive on the inside... you can easily lose your awareness to the belief that you're the mask instead of the face... but... so is life
