Re: Do we all wear a "mask" [Re: redgreenvines] * 1

I have many masks, all figurative.

Masks can be a method of summoning quiet or sleeping aspects of ‘self’ needed to be brought forth and have life breathed back into them, to become stronger, to become harder; even more sensitive.

I’ve had to fake and force care and listening as weak as it was to regain it in true after having my heart blasted into a scabbed waste.

To wear the mask and be the character until that sleeping, hidden or wrecked part of my soul was re/ignited.
One can use ‘masks’ to become figuratively possessed by something else entirely, and invite it and train for it to stay if they so need or want.

A ritualistic tool in our repertoire of them for accessing the transcendental.

As RGV said,
redgreenvines said:
the real you is the one that puts himself into masks

In a professional setting, it makes little sense to be my naked self, so there is a mask of sorts for that context.

I don’t think at all that masks should have the common negative attribution they do in modern parlance; but I feel that I understand, as I feel that rebuke reflects humanities disdain for falling prey to the tools of tricksters and worse, falling prey and seeing the nightmares wrought by those sort of mannish monsters who wear person suits quite well, but upon close scrutiny lack some of the key fundamentals of what makes us such.

I made it a point in my young life to only be who I genuinely am
Regardless of how much of that I have adopted from an external world doesn’t matter as you and your environment are one and that’s not what this post is about
I don’t act differently depending on my settting because long ago I decided I only want association with people who value respect and love the real true me
So I don’t know why others decide to “pick up the mask” but I live very happily in society with out it

so you have a collection of no-mask masks.

What do you even mean

Re: Do we all wear a "mask" [Re: Tripsten]

I mean that your expression here, is one of masklessness.

any expression is a mask.
you put it forward and see what happens.
maybe you expect something, or are hoping for a particular response.

in this case your declaration of no-mask stirs the pot, and I come back saying that it is a mask that declares no mask, which is not the kind of response you expected.

Re: Do we all wear a "mask" [Re: redgreenvines]

I wasn’t necessarily expecting any specific tesponse
I guess then it would be important to define what mask means lol
If literally anything you do or say no matter what it is is “mask”
Then ya .. sure everything’s a mask lol  but then by this definition “mask” wouldn’t be anything more than a word that people who are way to into philosophy say to come off more wise since it’s an inescapable term
But if your meaning mask as false persona I don’t perpetuate one
And simply stating that doesn’t some how disprove that I don’t either

What the implied meaning of mask is here in this situation was defined in the original post.

Spiralspider said:
Little interest about This theme.
About the "personas" we have which in greek means masks.

So we all behave differently according to where we are placed and which people we are hanging out with.
And after some time we get used to those people and we create our behaviours on a basis of What you know about them and they know about US.

Calling it a mask should BE bad attribuition of the word.

What is it really That we call mask? And if we dont have a mask how do we live in society? If its easier to live without a mask why we involuntarily pick it (the mask)

Just some food for thought

In Jungian psychological terms, persona,(masks) are the buffer zone between, in overly simplified terms, one’s person and society.

I do not think it possible for The authentic self  to be literally transmitted, witnessed and known through spoken, let alone symbolic language. (Written language). Only alluded to, referenced, and shown as a symbolic visage via art, music, language and action.

By default, I have to deal with your persona through this very means of symbolic communication you’re reading my words on, not to mention your screen name. You by default have to don a persona to even engage on this forum.

Unless you’re willing to argue (incorrectly I’d say) that your Shroomery handle is a non-symbolic preternatural extension of your authentic self, then you use and wear a mask atop the one you have to in order to even communicate with me, have a name and personal character history from which friends and family know and trust you, to follow laws, engage in cultural customs, and speak languages.

Jewstress said earlier on:

Jewstress said:
I don't wear a mask, you get what you get.
I also choose not to live a part of society.
I don't believe in having to fake it to make it... so I refuse to be a part of it.

Yet, this is an assertion seemingly blind of the very ground from which she springs, blind to that which precedes her and that has dictated more of her shape than any of us may be comfortable realizing the same about in ourselves.

She wears clothes, she has a name, she speaks language whose meaning and structure was not wrought of her own creation, she uses a computer; if that picture is in fact her, she follows customs of the feminine, et cetera.

She is not without masks, not without persona.

Nor are you, Tripsten.

She is a part of society, she is carved from its very granite. If she exiles herself to the wilderness, she is but a lone bastion of society among the pines, so long as she possesses any of which shaped or was given to what she calls ‘self’ or continues to think in the very language given.

Blindness to the mechanisms and forces that dictate our shape, blindness to the things that precede our every word, our every thought and every emotion that lay unilluminated, sleeping in a perpetual night before dawn, not much unlike our persistent incognizance of our instinct and numb familiarity to pulling air into our lungs, blindness to the eons old monolithic frameworks that precede our every word, action, thought and feeling, do not make us free or void of them.

Ignorance of and denial to that which precedes us, will never make us wiser, or help us forge the symbolic tools and understanding to truly individuate from it, and perhaps if we are wise and powerful enough, breathe new life into it.

Re: Do we all wear a "mask" [Re: Raven Gnosis]
    #25951937 -

I must disagree, arrogantly classing everything that isn’t your belief as ignorant doesn’t make a point more valid btw

But what you describe missed correlation in the center, you say ,”well we wear clothes and use a language and buy this or that “
Meaning the fact that we use external things to express oneself somehow makes it inauthentically onesself ?
I just don’t see where anyone ever goes with this
They make some valid points like what I just stated above although I stil don’t see the correlate
But then when you get to the root it becomes way more needlessly poetic and murky and faceless with no real explanations

You stated she bought a computer right ?
But there’s also plenty of people out there who do not trust technology and choose not to buy these
Because there all different people who make unique decisions

This just seems like a different spin of the question “who am I”
If by this case you mean
Well know the way the environment is is what had influenced her to either buy a computer or not buy a computer
In which case duh lol, because if we wanna go down deeper into what self is it is the environment as well
And keep going and it’s the whole universe
Which is pretty common knowledge
But ego is a part of the self as well, otherwise it could literally not exist, even non existence is the true “self”
And I don’t see ego as a whole as completely bad
Important in some ways
So then
We all have an ego
Even one whom has worked their whole life for loss of ego has done this decision out of egoic desire
There’s another paradox for you
So what I think a lot of people mean in here by “I don’t wear masks”
Is that them the character “Tripsten” the ego the person, doesn’t give an inauthentic personality to anyone new or old.
OP had stated that being around people for long enough to learn them and develope different behaviors

But what of those who’s egoic selves have the people around them that have been there so long because they are the same person to them
You know your character self your persona self, it’s that idea that is alone with you in the car
It may not be the whole self
Which again is common knowledge
But it is a very large part of the self especially for conscious beings
For we are a part of and apart of the everything
The true self
As thigns that have grown within it and are it

And so who you are when your alone regardless of how much that organically changes through out life
And I put great emphasis on organically changes
Can indeed come through in society in my opinion
And can indeed be shown for that is the purest form of that part of the self

Of course ones “true self” could never just be shown lol
That’s nonsense to even argue that point for ones true self is coming through all the time every second of existence and non existence for ones true self is everything
That’s all I’m saying

It’s always great when someone starts off a response with immediate logical fallacies!

Tripsten, it appears your reading comprehension skills are severely lacking, as I never
“arrogantly classed everything that isn’t my belief as ignorant”

As a matter of fact, I never once even used the word ignorant. Nor am I discussing my beliefs.
To paint my words and position as you have is what's called a straw man fallacy and is not worth another second of my time.

I don't hold myself above anyone else, but even if I was arrogant, what in the world does that have to do with the topic at hand?
Absolutely nothing. It's completely irrelevant.

I am here taking my time to contribute to fruitful discussion, hopefully grow and help others do the same. Your decision to paint me as arrogant appears to be a text book example of projection, and I find it to be droll and callow, as it does absolutely nothing to contribute in the slightest to intelligent discussion or fruitful debate, let alone support your own arguments.

But back on topic,

Tripsten said:But what you describe missed correlation in the center, you say ,”well we wear clothes and use a language and buy this or that “

No, and once again, I have no idea how you managed to extrapolate this from what I wrote. This is not even what I said, I didn't say a single thing anywhere about buying stuff and there is literally nothing there for you to draw the conclusions you're asking about without grossly misunderstanding; I recommend you go back and read it again.

:facepalm:I did not state she bought a computer. My post is not even big, did you even read what I wrote? You can literally scroll up while typing in the box you did to reply to me and see what I said, you can even quote me and see what I said in the box you’re writing it in.

But yeah! There are plenty of people who do not buy technology or trust it, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the fundamental aspects in which society shapes us from birth, has nothing to do with what I was talking about.

This is yet another logical fallacy, tone policing.
Why don’t you try discussing the content of what I wrote? Maybe ask a question about it, rather than weakly attempting to criticize the manner in which I delivered it? Doing as you have, provides absolutely nothing in which to help me grow or learn, nor does it provide viable or valuable or meaningful refutation, and to use your own opening words: ‘doesn’t make your point valid btw’

Your failure to understand what I’ve said doesn’t reflect its nature or mine, and I’d have been more than happy to attempt to explain it in a different manner had the thought to ask me to clarify or expound on it ever crossed your mind.

I won't be wasting my time with you again, so don't expect a response unless you actually take the time to read what I've written and and give me and others valid refutations and questions of substance worth our trouble.

I try to be as genuine as possible but professional masks are necessary. Because it's about them and what they need more than about me and my need to be authentic. I need to put that aside sometimes for others.

Generally tho, i'm my dick self and that's ok.

We all have a face with thoughts behind it.

That mask, the face, it filters what we think and feel, and sometimes that’s better than giving your boss the finger.

Holy cringe calm down cry baby 😂
For some one who wants to talk about logical falicies and pretend not to be bothered you sure did spend a lot of tome doing what you claim I did
“Not worth a second of my time , so let me make my whole post about these things “
Stop coming off so triggered
You said “she uses a computer”
I said buy
Not really much of a difference there and dodging the larger point I made by that is futile
You’ve failed to disprove anything I said and spent stanza after stanza in a weird defensive mode lol
“I won’t be wasting my time with you again”
Lol cringe , so edgy 😂
Not my fault you can’t argue the things I say

Re: Do we all wear a "mask" [Re: Tripsten]

What I stated still stands
About ego
Persona
And the true self
And until you can give me an intelligible argument then that’s how it is lol

Literally buy a computer is all you really brought to the fight when that was like one small example I used and not even fully incorrect
Buy and uses aren’t very different in the scenario I stated, even interchangeable in the way I used the example
Your just reaching cause you aren’t sure where you can come back from
You did claim her belief to be ignorant
It was implied with the first line of your last stanza
So yes you did say that
Anything else desperate and untrue ? Or would you like to continue the discussion?

Even society is apart of the true self and is coming through all the time
How much one is shaped by or carved from society is irrelevant
With out the environment there is no behavior or anything at all for the individual because the two are one
I’ll say it again
What people mean when they say they don’t wear masks
Is that they are their genuine character unchanging in situations
However that genuine character is forged by the environment is irrelevant
And ones “true self” in the way you lot describe is philosophical fantasy that does not exist for the deeper self behind that persona is the all
So no amount of crying and dodging matters
For no one has ever given me an argument to that
