I thought sterilising bulk substrates was a big no-no? :justdontknow: Why would you use sterilised?

If you can spawn sterile I think it would be better. Thermophile bacteria isn't a detriment but its definitely not symbiotic. So if you can eliminate all bacteria and spawn sterile the poo probably performs better if I had to make a guess

Sterilised manure is a trich magnet. Unless you are downing in sterile conditions and can keep your sub sealed untill gully colonised.

It kills beneficial microbes but take a look at this:

True. But not if you inoculate a bag of manure under sterile conditions. Or your muda bottles through an injection port.

Yeah.  I thought you guys were talking about spawning to sterilised manure in a conventional bulk sub.

Yep sterilized poo, coir, little verm, bran & cottonseed hulls. I made 14 bags and inoculated them all with a 1/2 gallon G2G.

I don't know the name of the isolate. It's from an European mushroom company. If you are interested here is my grow log.

If you are willing to colonize the bulk sub invitro, I think it could only benefit your grow. You would allow your mushroom mycelium to colonize the entire substrate, instead of just the portion that the 'beneficial bacteria' haven't colonized. I wouldn't bother with this, because I grow CVG, and the benefit wouldn't be great enough to make a big difference, plus it's more work involved.

However, if I grow panaeolus cyanescens, I think I would spawn grain to sterilized hpoo based sub in a bag or something.

When you pasturize that bacteria spreads throughout the sub as it cools and cubes still fully colonize it.

I started trying something similar. Sterilised grain and substrate in bags inoculated with LI and flattened out in monos to colonise. Once colonised just cut off the top and you have a bulk sub with a built in liner.

Yep that works too. Azur has been doing those lately... fruiting in a GH setup though.

Azure's GH is ridiculous.

... I'll get the agar.....

Edit: Some of my plate have what looks like a very thin film underneath the growing myc, and some does not.

Is that something to keep an eye on, or is it just normal that some has it?
