christians and evolution

I have a friend who's a devout christian. I brought up the subject of evolution just to rock her boat a bit. Big mistake. She spent a whole hour talking about how god buried dinosaur bones to keep us busy.
Is the christian consensus on evolution that it's a lie purpetrated by satan or something along those lines?
I'm really worried about the future of the human race. What will we do if we run out of dinosaurs to dig up???? Everyone will be killing each other!!

"christian consensus" does not really exist. there are orthodox/fanatical/devout/conservative/bible-thumping/whatever you wanna call it christians who (very stupidly in my opinion) fail to see the bible as a collection of lessons and fables as a guide how to live and instead see it as a history book.
Occasionally their idiocy gets to the point where they can't go on any more, the quintessential example being Copernicus. When more and more astronomical data seemed to discount the religion's theories of the sun revolving the earth, they said the planets were moving in perfect circles on top of their perfectly circular orbits and then circles upon that (epicircles) and thats how they 'explained' the extraneous data. Eventually they abandoned this when they were thoroughly proved wrong but now its an expression: "drawing epicircles on epicircles" or making up explanations to dig yourself out of a hole to no avail.
When they have a religion that has a book that says the world was created in 7 days, and they have been in the religion their whole life, rather than taking the enormous hit to pride, they'll keep trying to explain their way out of it, including the Prankster God theory of Dinosaur bone planting. There's a great stand-up on this by Bill Hicks (search for "bill hicks dinosaurs") where he asks, can you really imagine dying, going to the gates of heaven and st. paul or whoever saying to you "Ha! you actually believed in that whole 'dinosaur' thing?! You idiot, that was one of god's most obvious jokes and you fell for it!" "I'm sorry, its just that it seemed kinda plausible..." "Enough!! OFF TO HELL WITH YOU!"
Anyway the point is, the close-minded people (all apologies to your friend) fail to see or admit to themselves that their reasons for believing this religion is no more sensical than Muslims believing the Koran, the greeks and romans believing in their gods, the egyptians thinking their pharoah was god on earth or the Aztecs believing they needed to sacrifice 20,000 humans a year in order for the sun to rise again. These beliefs come from when people you know, trust and love (parents, family friends, etc.) saying something over and over and over until eventually you believe it to be true and explain this illogical step as "faith".
i assume your friend hasn't shroomed? surely that would open their mind a bit if they did so and did some thinking on this whole subject by themselves in a dark room without fear of the reprucussions from family and friends with what they discovered.

Yeah, just like God plants evidence at crime scenes...
Some people are led to believe things without given any reason to believe them that strongly that it is easily apparent are misled they actually are... I almost feel sorry for them. Peace.

The more i think about this theory the more t makes sense. Picture this. America runs out of good bones to dig up. God was busy or something. So america decides to go looking for dinosaurs in the middle eastcuz oil is like tar pits. All this axis of evil crap is just weak counotrys with high probability of dinosaurs.
WHAT WILL YOU DO WHEN THERE ARE NO DINOSAURS LEFT IN THE WORLD MR. BUSH???

I kinda hate to say this, but some Christians are stupid. Dinosaurs were real, they were not "false rocks planted by Satan" or anything like that. Some people's ignorance is astounding!

To quote Bill Hicks: Does that bother anyone here - the idea that God... might be fucking with our heads? Anyone gonna have trouble sleeping restfully with that thought in their heads? God's running around burying fossils - "we'll see who believes in me now, hohoho, I'm a prankster God." You die, you go to St. Peter's - "Did you believe in dinosaurs?" "Yeah, there were fossils everywhere" "What? Were you an idiot? God was fucking with you! Giant flying lizards - you moron! That's one of God's easiest jokes!" "It seemed so plausible.... arrrggghhh!" Bound for the lake of fire. You ever notice how people who believe in creationism look really unevolved? "I believe God created me in one day" Yeah, looks like he rushed it.

I dont understand how the two beliefs cant be reconciled. Thats certainly a lot easier than coming up with "Prankster God" theories out of nowhere.
The evolutionary theory, or for that matter the big bang theory, can easily been seen as God's tools. They are the hand of God.
Modern Science might know what the universe looked like when it first started, but they still don't know how or why it started. They know how life evolves but they cant say with certainty how it started. They know the universe operrates according to a certain system of rules, but they dont know why or how those rules came about.
I really don't understand how christians consider science a threat, unless their understanbding of their own religion is strictly dogmatic

When people begin to regard as a lot of the accounts in the Bible as being more metaphorical, simply carrying a message that cannot be described or spelled out on its own, they can be reconciled... Peace.
