For instance, you declare a non-belief, but do you live a declared non-belief, indulging in a metaphysic of your own?

I would only "declare" something if someone bothered me enough about the subject that I actually had to speak to them in order to get them to leave me alone. I think, sometimes, silence says it all.

The root is "theos," the Greek word for "god."  Theism is a belief in God, whereas a-theism (the prefix a- meaning without) is an absence of belief in God.

I forgot about this thread.

I disagree. The prevailing use of the word seems to be the beilief that there is not god.  i don't think the etymology or deconstruction of the word means anything either- it doesn't tell us what the word means

I'll reiterate my previous contention that athiesm seems to mean a belief that there is no god and that people that are using it to refer to a lack of belief in god should clarify their usage of the word since I feel it is against hte prevailing use.

But let's remember that children are first atheists by being one who has no belief or faith in any god.

Not necessarily.  I had a strong faith in Islam from the moment of my birth.  It caused a lot of tension within my family.

I met an Islamic guy and he said that people are reverted to Islam because all people are born Islamic and then converted to other religions.

I believe there is a "creator" but the "God" that people on earth depict just sounds like a lie.

It's one thing to simply enjoy a style of life that one enjoys, but it's another thing altogether to refer to another person's choice as "wrong" or to rationalize their behavior as being pathological or resulting from some sort of inadequacy or failing so as to create a sense of superiority or separation as yet another projection of a personal fear or control issue.
