What's the difference?

  They all seem the same to me.

Well it's really not them themselves.

It's how humans use them and for what ultimate goals.

And it seems all the same to me.

And there are people out there who aren't interested in those things at all. That kinda makes me :sad:

I'm not really interested much anymore. I'm realizing how much philosophy is manipulated by our ego and it's usually, unhealthy and unskillful needs. That's what this post is about. Control, power, fear behind most of it.

Politics and religion might ultimately be identical in that both are instruments of social control, but how does philosophy fit in there?

One hardly sees the hordes lining up to march in front of Kant's banner.

politics = thought
religion = thought
philosophy = thought

it's all egocentric indulgence.

So anything we do is ultimately egocentric indulgence?

I think you're right.  The ego will run in circles to keep YOU from discovering what IS....

Happiness is always off in the distance.  You're becoming better.  Becoming somebody.

It is now.

I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

Basically true IMO. We use these tools to try to feel like we are in control of things when we really can't be. And our emotional states are the result of that frustration.

it's all egocentric indulgence.

i think some acts are more egocentric than others.

but it depends on what you consider the ego to be, really.

if you are your ego, then yes anything you do is egocentric, no?

is all doing of ego?

are you your ego?
